    The reason Kendrick is so popular and thriving is because he has found a way to fuse conscious rap with commercial rap to please just about everyone. He'll be around for a while.

    There is a big misconception that being super lyrical means you're a good rapper. Charlamagne said it, it takes more than bars to really make noise. And it's waaay too many people stuck in the past and stuck in the 90's. Im tired of hearing that "rap was better back then" and "these new school niggas weak" like if they were really weak they would'nt be successful. Hip-hop needs to move forward. We need innovators and people that push the bar forward for the genre to improve and grow. And im not knockin any type of preferable rap that somebody likes. But thats the good thing about the hip-hop, it's versatile and there are dozens of different rappers SO LISTEN TO WHAT YOU LIKE AND STOP HATIN AND TALKIN SHIT ABOUT WHAT YOU DONT LIKE. Real talk. The only thing I can say about hip-hop now is that there always and forever will need to be a BALANCE. If there isn't a balance then its just gonna cause more hating, which is probably why there's alot now. Alot of people feel like there's too much "bull shit" and "weak shit" out now. But just because you dont like something doesnt mean its bad. Another person could love what you hate. Whether it be trap, contemporary, indie, east coast, west coast whatever hip-hop isn't restricted to one type of sound. I apologize for this long ass paragraph. PEACE

    The "New York" sound will never again dominate hip-hop again because it was the face of the genre for a long time, even when there were plenty of people that didn't like it. Now with the internet no one sound will dominate the genre because of the different varieties of hip-hop. Imo

    • @outforfame408
      @outforfame408 3 года назад

      @@K.B.Williams there definitely is region specific sounds that do exist, but most of the sounds we hear in a lot of modern hip hop are sounds that start one place, and get adopted by new places that put their own spin to it. I agree that the original boom bap/ primo sound are great references for the traditional NY wave we all loved/hated, but modern day New York sounds like London/Chicago IMO. Can honestly say there’s good music coming from all directions rn though, East to west and beyond this country

    the reason why NY rappers don't evolve into the next level is because they follow a prototypical mold. especially since record labels wanted this mold in the 90's and early 2000's. NY rappers rapped about: the hood, drugs, guns, money, women, cars, jail, kicks, basketball and other sports. In that order. With very little exception. The more successful ones invest in exploring and expanding their vocabulary and get witty with words.
    Now the ones that transcends into the next plateau are the ones that put deep personal emotions and deep personal thoughts into songs. Jay-z , Nas, biggie, DMX, wu tang, Fab and Jadakiss all rappers who expanded their vocabulary, had songs that reached out and touched people with beats and lyrics.
    with Kendrick we are talking about the modern day thelonious monk of hip hop. He has invested in mastering a clear domination of the use of the English language. He paints vivid pictures of emotions and thoughts using words as a brush. his fearless attitude to create master pieces is like Picasso with a mic. the man is borderline genius as he is possibly insane. So his music transcends because he has the balls to record on wax what black people feel and think but don't say. he dares all people to deny his art when everyone feels the same way. New York rappers don't do that anymore. Not like this. Kendrick is on another level.

    by the way, ll cool j did make canibus change his verse, because canibus' original verse said something along the line of, "ayyo, L, is that a mic on your arm, let me borrow that..." it wasn't even a diss against ll cool j, it was just a plain & simple reference that ll cool j had a mic tattoo. but ll cool j still didn't like the line so he had him change it. so after canibus changed it, ll cool j changed his verse too addressing the whole issue and pretty much dissed canibus on the same song, that's why ll cool j says, "Now let's get back to this mic on my arm, If it ever left my side it'd transform into a time bomb, You don't wanna borrow that, you wanna idolize, And you don't wanna make me mad nigga you wanna socalize." and that's what pissed off canibus and erupted the whole "canibus vs. ll cool j" beef. that's why canibus on "second round k.o." says, "So I'ma let the world know the truth, you don't want me to shine, You studied my rhyme, then you laid your vocals after mine, That's a bitch move, somethin that a homo rapper would do."

      Inferno0420 First off, sneak dissing has multiple meanings. It can also mean you're talking about someone but you don't actually say that person's name (A Subliminal Diss) Second off, In the age of the internet you don't have to say anything in anybody's face. All you have to do is send a tweet or make a video about how you don't like someone which counts as an actual diss these days. In Kendrick's case, he never said in an interview "Yeah, I said I'm the King and that's what the fuck I meant!" He said "No! I was being lyrical and saying I'm the King of everywhere and those were Kurupt's old lyrics" Which makes it a sneak diss toward NY.

      Inferno0420 Read the Urban Dictionary bro. Once a word gets popular it's going to be used in multiple ways. A lot people think T.H.O.T is a word when it's an acronym meaning That Hoe Over There. Finesse is used by Drill artists but it actually is a word that was created before we were born and it means of the finest quality, nothing to do with illegal activities.

      well thats how rap started, and thats what it is. clowns these days just say the stupidest shit. (drake, wayne, big sean, kendrick, too many to name) its like someone just going to country music and switching it all up, them hillbillies wouldnt have that, why do we all put up with these wack ass rappers?

    • @crushinnihilism
      @crushinnihilism 10 лет назад

      Exactly! That is how hip-hop started, but the people talking about actually lived that life. Pac got shot a lot. I don't think a lot of these popular guys are living that life. Lil Wayne isnt out in the streets killing people. I think people liked Big and Pac to the point where they want to be them. The problem is there not! When have so many people trying to be them everything sounds the same and it gets boring. Thats what happened to southern movement. Some people got big, but it never evolved it just stayed the same and died out.

    • @Eazzy1974
      @Eazzy1974 10 лет назад +10

      All do respect, that's not how rap/hip hop started. It started as block party music.... Well the DJ'ing came first, then the MC's started saying rhymes while the DJ mixed and scratched. That was the 70's. Cold Crush, Afrika Bambatta(sp), Grand Flash and the Furious Five, ect. Gangster shit really started with School D outta Philly in '85 (at least that's the first shit i heard growing up in the Bay). And while that was going on, you still had Run DMC, Fat Boys, LL, Beastie Boys, none of them were really gangster.

    In Europe we don't even have the debate about region or specific hiphop sound. I love french hiphop and I am from Sweden and don't even speak french. Only because something grabs you and levitates you towards. It's either good or bad…

    • @Gaboxxy96
      @Gaboxxy96 8 лет назад

      +MrIlleism Thats because countries in europe are smaller and close together, so sometimes even music from neighboring countries sound similar. In USA, theres a HUGE difference in sound when it comes to west and east coast. Just listen to a song of snoop dogg, and then one from Nas just to give you an example.

    • @MrIlleism
      @MrIlleism 8 лет назад

      666weena Yes but it's all hiphop. Question I'm asking essentially why does it even matter. Hiphop will always evolve. Plus this thing is only RAP related. The other elements in hiphop don't separate themselves based on region or geographical distance.

    • @Gaboxxy96
      @Gaboxxy96 8 лет назад

      MrIlleism Its not about if it matters or not, its about a fact: West Coast and East coast rap have different sounds. And anyway the rivalry with thee two its actually a good thing, because it has produced many good songs.

    • @MrIlleism
      @MrIlleism 8 лет назад

      666weena Yes. But still, African music will not sound the same as music from India and music from China and music from Russia. Each country, region has it's influences. Still it's all music, it's only normal and logical that different regions will have different inspiration and sound. Why even make it a thing is the question. To everyone outside US it's just hiphop music. This is what I am trying to explain.

    That being said, NY is alive and well, there's a great amount of dope MC's coming up and that have been working it, even if they're not dominatin radio, NY always gonna have dope shit coming out

  • @C-Lyfe85

    It is the Radio.
    It's called Radio programming.
    N.Y. use to only play N.Y. Rap in the 90s.
    Therefore it kept a monopoly, & kept the West & South
    from infiltrating the New York market.
    And that was a selfishing thing N.Y. radio did, But..
    If N.Y. radio don't play any N.Y. music.
    N.Y. will not be hot anytime soon.
    They will have to go around it, using the internet.

You can't find one rap song nowadays that isn't talking about extremely inappropriate things or has curse words in it.

Did you hear him say the line about LL in the music video version? No you didn't. The version you heard was the original version before the changes because someone leaked it. Look up the video of LL and Cannibitch's phone conversation talking about the song.
