- This is it! The video many of you have been asking about. Decluttering my mom's kitchen!!
I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about this process. She kept a lot of things I would have gotten rid of, but she also got rid of things I thought she would want to keep! In all, we had a lot of fun. We laughed. A lot. And at the end of the day, she was happy.
And that's all that really mattered to me.

This is a great example for anyone who has to help loved ones declutter. It’s their stuff, the decisions should be theirs too.
Correct!
Exactly… this is why I can’t bring myself to watch any of those “We surprised Mom & Dad with a total remodel of their home!”
Say WHAT? 😳🤯
😊
Hats off to Ruby for being so willing to let things go but absolutely speaking up when she wants to keep something. And to you Tim for being so respectful as you walked through this process with her. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hello Tim,
It’s so beautiful to see the kindness , respect and patience you show your mother, she is a soft spoken shining Ruby ❤️ lovely mother son bond 💞
Thank you for sharing these precious moments, it gave me all the warm feelings.
Take care, Blessings 🙏
Awwww Carol, so well stated & I totally agree with your thoughtful sentiments. I loved watching the sweet exchange between Miss Ruby & Tim. Very loving relationship! Well done Miss Ruby & Tim! 🎉 Thanks for another great video, Tim, such a gentleman, & for sharing your precious Mama with us! ❤ dee

😊
I love how you did one cabinet at a time so it wasn’t so overwhelming.
🤗
🤍❤
👍
Your mom is a lovely woman and it’s heartwarming to see the love between you two. I love the careful way you presented each item and let her make her decision on what to keep. You inspired me to declutter a kitchen cabinet today!
Ask yourself NOT what you USED TO DO but WHAT DO YOU DO TODAY? Watch the pots/pans, storage containers and what nots fly in the DONATE or THROW OUT area. Hands are weak. Cooking minimal.
🙂

😁🤩
If mom says hurry up and declutter, you drop everything and declutter
Right?!?
you'd better believe it! LOL @@TheNewRetiredMe

I see this happening in my near future. My mom is 93. Your patience is refreshing.

Tupperware lids! The bane of our existence! 🥰
When I was growing up, my mother was keeping me responsible of the Tupperware. I ended up with a strong dispite of them🤣 Glass only in my kitchen
😂
😅😅😅
You are so gentle and respectful, no rushing mom...beautiful to see x
❤
❤
❤
I am enjoying how respectful both of you are. Your mom is so young looking and you are a wonderful son.
😊
😗
😊
She is sharp as a tack and still wants to cook at her age! Love her!
👍
I'm thinking what a struggle it's getting to be just to lift some of those heavy things from a low or very high shelf. She seems to be fine with it.
🥰
Where is the clutter? This is such a clean organized kitchen!!
Oh my gosh, I have rarely seen such a clean organized kitchen!
I know right?!?
🥰
🤩
Thank your mom for inviting us into her beautiful kitchen. Its a dream kitchen, plenty of cabinets, space, and room to move in. I have a small kitchen, but the older I get the less I entertain, bake, cook, and the less I can maneuver heavy kitchen ware.
💚
👍
🤍❤
She is wonderful she members every item and remembers what she used it for
smart!
What a precious sweet Mother you have!
💚
🥰
I sorted out all my mother’s tupperware, and she had 22 lids that didn’t go to anything! 😂
😂
😅 please do not feel alone...🤣
😂 yes, I know what you gone through....
It's nice that you are so patient and supportive of your Mom. You didn't cause her to be stressed and gave her relief from too many things she no longer needs.
👍
🙃🙂
I have to say your Momma is so cute. You are gentle and kind soul to be so patient with her. She has a lot of measuring cups....lol
It’s so nice that you have video of you and your precious mom doing things together….even if it is nothing monumental, just spending time and seeing her….hearing her voice and watching her mannerisms. This is gold ❤
That's what crossed my mind, how I'd have valued a video of me and my mom just doing basically nothing much together!

Your mom is so sweet and sharp. Her home is beautiful. She agreed to get rid of quite a few things. I can see you have great love for her. Enjoyed your video.

You are so kind and gentle with your mother. Good job going through her things.
💚👍

Hi Tim, It was so nice of you to do that for your mom. Now she has fewer things, and probably she forgot she had. We all do when we have so much stuff. Don't be surprised if she asks you to do more deccluttering in the kitchen as she realizes she won't be needing everything she has kept. At first, it's hard to get rid of things, and then it gets easier and easier.
I think she still has way too many pots and pans~ but it’s a great start!
@@The-new-carnivore-meI just moved and 90% of my stuff is in unknown boxes, so I've been cooking with whatever I've found so far. It amazes me how little is possible. BUT I still want all my specific-use pots and pans! So I think you're right, but it still wouldn't persuade me 🤣

Beautiful clean kitchen makes decluttering so much easier.

I loved watching you and your mom go through this process together. My 90 year old grandmother still has every pot and pan since she married my grandpa 72 years ago and she will keep it that way. 😅 And those Tupperware lids! I never understood how we end up with so many that won’t fit anything. 😂 Thank your mom for inviting us into her beautiful home. I am very impressed with the way she keeps her kitchen. We could all take a lesson from her. ❤

This is one of the best declutteing videos I've seen! You had tight editing and your mom knew quickly what she wanted to get rid of! She's a sweetheart!

Bless your heart! I just got back from 10 days with my 86 year old aunt with the goal of helping her declutter before moving into assisted living! This is my 4th 800 mile trip trying to do so! Oh the patience and love you showed with your mom!
😊🤍😊
I never thought that decluttering can be so heartwarming!
❤❤❤
❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this video in decluttering kitchen with Mom. It has inspired me to start going through my belongings and saying to it "DO I USE YOU" either KEEP, DONATE or TRASH!
😊
I am about to retire in four days, and I’m new to this channel… But it’s a great idea to see what others are doing with their time after retiring. I did help my mother clean out her home and it’s really great to have a keep pile, a giveaway pile, and a trash or recycle pile. The “I’m not sure what to do with it” is part of the keep pile… initially anyhow. So nice to see you respect your mom’s decisions and help her be realistic about how much she’s “really” using stuff 😊
It crossed my mind as this progressed that I keep many things just because I think they're so pretty. I tend to have more than one of a thing (a pretty thing), so I can switch among them. I'm not sure what pile I should put those in! They're hard to let go.
I got to the same point while ago...so now, I only use the " prettiest" and what it was supposed to be the everyday ones left the house. Maybe something like that will work for you?@@jvallas

Great job. I have been helping my 97 year old mother declutter since Dad passed away 2 years ago. It's very slow going, but I place a cardboard box in her dining room, and as she finds items she no longer wants, in they go. It's truly a long process!
97!! Wow!!

what a beautiful relationship…I would love to hear interviews about her life experiences….
I’m thinking about that.
@@TheNewRetiredMe oh the possibilities! I treasure all those moments I spent with my mother talking about her stories that she could now share with her adult daughter! You are never going to regret that! The fact that you are good on editing will not hurt 😜
💙💚💛
yes and yes!
❤ I really enjoy your video. First time watching you.
You have taught me to start giving things away.
I am 79 and I don't particularly call it decluttering my kitchen because I do have everything organizing and labeled.
What you have taught me is very important. I will share with you my next step and that is to only use the kitchen cabinets shelves that I can reach.
I probably move things around in my kitchen 5 times a month.
Let's say once a week ok.
Well, one time when I was cleaning the cabinet top shelf, I had one leg on the step stool and the other leg had my knee on top of kitchen counter.
Well, when I made the turn to put my leg from the counter top to the step stool, I fell down.
I was about 7 feet from the floor when I lost my balance and I only prayed to God to be his will as I was going down.
I had worked in the emergency room in a hospital for 50+ years and that experience of my job and God saved me.
Oh yeah, I hit my head really hard. I used my right arm to hold my head.
Eventhough I still hit my head hard, but I knew what I had to do.
I stayed up all night with a towel filled with ice that I kept on and off every 20 minutes.
Eventhough I had promise my son in law and daughter NOT to go up on a foot stool, I still do.
Now watching your video and your mom, I realized that I am not 20 years old anymore.
So, God Willing starting tomorrow I will ask my son (since he is here now) to help me take everything out of the cabinets that I can't reach and leave them empty.
🙏 thank you for such a valuable lesson.
I know I have doubles of baking dishes but I will keep only one.
I have 3 sets of complete china, but I will keep only one.
God Willing I will do the same for the closets.
I have kept my mom's cloths since she passed away. They will have to go
I have kept my children's baby cloths, they are still in good condition, they will have to go also.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Since I can still decide for myself I will take care of everything 🙏
Thank you! You are an inspiration!
❤
This was a great video. Good inspiration for all watching.

I just started downsizing my home. Selling and donating things.

I get so overwhelmed at the thought of going through so much and so many decisions. You both handled it well.
I was you in the beginning as well. As the process continue, it became easier. I did not miss the items I let go and it became easier and easier to clean and organize that the "overwelm" faded away. I do not say that the people that do this in one go do not exist but that was not me. It is a process but it became just part of what I do
Anna, So nice of you to reply and be encouraging. Good to hear it got easier for you, and it helped to remind me not everyone has an easy go of it.. My sister encourages me too that anything I get done is progress even if it seems a drop in the bucket.
Funny, I was washing dishes Saturday and dropped a glass mixing bowl and it shattered. I had several quick thoughts: That was a surprise; Keep the cats away and clean it up quickly; and That was a duplicate that just got DECLUTTETED and I had not considered it something to let go of. Thanks again.

Your mom is pretty unusual to be willing to do this. My mom moved into progressively smaller places after my dad died and even though she quit cooking she wanted to keep everything. Nice job.

Wow, Mom's kitchen is beautiful. You two are cute together. This was fantastic. We need to see an episode of Mom's Kitchen. I bet she can really cook!!
lol. She can! But she’s slowed down a step or two. :)
☺
If I can suggest, put half of her everyday dishes on top shelf. Get a rack that could hold them (sideways or above each other), so she doesn't have to pick up smaller dishes to get to larger ones. When she needs them she'll have company to help get them off of top shelf. Your doing great!
I like the idea of a rack for the dishes she uses the most. I’ll start looking.

Wow! I am so impressed by your mother! What a trooper she is with just the right mix of certainty and graciousness while being flexible. The stamina she had to get through what must have been a long and segmented day was great. I was exhausted just watching the first cupboard but she just kept going. Your consideration in having her rest often and encouraging her to be "the decider" was very smile worthy! Fantastic video!
🥰☺
My momma passed when I was 24. I would love to have had the opportunity to declutter with her. Your mother is such a beautiful lady. ☺️

This was nice to see, and i have to say I'm a little jealous of you. My mom passed away last year after a long battle with dementia, and my 90 year old father won't part with anything. She never did either. We (my siblings and I) have a nightmare ahead of us. I swear they have every greeting card they ever received since the late 1950s. Well done, both of you!
Save those greeting cards! We paper crafters like repurposing them into new cards or scrapbook embellishments. Particularly great when making scrapbooks about older relatives- matching the age of the photos with the age/style of the greeting card.

This was one of my favorite episodes. I liked how you and your mom went through methodically and every decision was thought out and had a rhyme and a reason for all of the decisions. It was fun to see some of your mom's things were things my mom had when I grew up.. the square Tupperware and the metal colander that had holes in the shape of stars. It's nice that the most used items now have easier access and can mostly be on the bottom two shelves where you can reach without a step stool.
🥰☺
