A new EMD and a rebuilt GE pull 156-axle CSX train W992 east through the Mill Run Road grade crossing in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, loaded with components of wind turbines.
Locomotives: CSX 7212(GE CM44AC) & CSX 4550(SD70MACe).

They have to keep rebuilding them, particularly replacement blade because the blades do not last as long as predicted. This is due to UV damage, bird strike, freezing damage, hail damage, and dust erosion. There are new landfill storage sites that were built to depose of the blades. It's becoming an environmental problem now with used damage blades piling up. There's only one company that has had marginal success at wind turbine blade recycling.
Wind turbines are a green energy scam. It's not uncommon too see wind turbines catastrophically fail within 10 years - gear box and generator fires, vibration related failures, failures of speed governors (overspeeding).
Furthermore, wind turbines only can function as intermittent generators for a number of reasons, the most obvious is when wind profiles for a given time period are less favorable, they sit idle.
The worse and most scammy aspect of wind turbines is how they are awarded unfair power contracts. They receive government subsidization to recoup lost revenue during times when they cannot run or run but only at reduced capacity. The energy companies and in some case Wall Street hedge funds that own / operate these large utility scale wind turbine sites are not required to purchase replacement power to make up for the MWs their wind turbines cannot produce. For example if a traditional fossil fuel or nuclear plant is down for a maintenance outage or because of generator trip, those plants are responsible for purchasing the replacement power on the open market from other generators. This regulatory contract structure doesn't exist or apply to most "renewables" - so basically all the economic losses are ultimately subsidized by the government and rate payers. It's a totally rigged contract that the Silicon Valley billionaires have successfully lobbied the politicians for (Silicon Valley is heavily invested in "green energy").
