As a fellow Cabin Crew Flight Attendant who has done over 100+ flights, yes, I can confirm that this is what happens when you turn off airplane mode. This did happen to me once on a ERJ-145 I was flying, all of a sudden the meal service halted, and then I hear the announcement that we're going to make a water landing. It was very shocking.
Turning off airplane mode doesn't do that IRL, it just creates a 0.1% chance where the transponder or radio dies, making communication difficult with towers and central control. There are already set manuals, and this does not make the plane do a water landing or plummet to the ground IRL. Though it might in Cabin Crew Simulator ;-;
