It would be difficult for me to care less about avatars and frames. The fact that you get the five star soul or nothing is ridiculous. Super disappointing.
The other way of doing it with 1 or 3 star souls then broken ones for higher souls is more accessible yes. They decided to do an all or none for this one

I have stopped participating in any of the events the game is becoming tedious
