    Only constructive information from me. You can use adhesive on the foam panels that fills the voids from imperfect cuts. SOME foam will accept 100percent silicone caulk...there is ALWAYS some adhesive for the foam. Next...I can see daylight under your door. Get a flexible bottom seal and shim it if the floor is uneven. Lastly...they sell spring hinges that close the gaps between door panels. There is more than one kind...you just match them to yours...and swap them. Every bit of air that you block is helpful. Good luck.

      Thank you very much for the improvements listed in your response! So far I’ve not had any issues with requiring adhesive for the panels but and they stay put but there are gaps that I could seal better. The one under the door is ,as you can see, the first one I’ll address.

      @@The_604_Garage just suggestions. I was sure to buy insulated doors that were gasketed between panels. I am considering the spring hinges

      I’d love to see the spring hinges in more detail. I’ll have to look those up.

    Do NOT tell the wife you are out enjoying the ManCave. She will pull up a chair with a glass of pino, and start in on your next job-jar item, LOL.

    You could have the concrete flood mud jacked and bring the floor back up to where it’s supposed to be quite a bit less then replacing the floor

      I always thought that would be too much to mud jack but I’ll look into it thanks! Thanks for watching as well!

    This is amazing! I did the same thing, however I don't like the metallic/aluminum look so I'm thinking of placing wallpaper on it. What do you recommend i use? spray paint doesnt work. i tried. lol

    • @The_604_Garage
      @The_604_Garage  Год назад +1

      You could try wallpaper I suppose but I’d use some better glue to adhere it to the insulation as the temperature fluctuations may cause the wallpaper glue to break down over time. Try a test piece with some spray adhesive.

    What aluminum tape brand did you use? Some are ridiculous like almost $30 a roll...! And some are like $12.

      Yes the durafoam is designed to insulate against heat and cold.

    what is the brand that you used to seal the garage door on the outside?

    • @The_604_Garage
      @The_604_Garage  Год назад

      I don't recall the actual brand but I got it from Home depot. They have a few different styles of seals.

  • @johnlee7085
    @johnlee7085 Год назад

    I like the seal on the outside.
    I used a different foam because it was cheaper and used a can of spray foam to fill the gaps for a better seal. It overfills the void which creates another mess when trimming it back. It’s not nearly as pretty as yours but still effective.

    • @The_604_Garage
      @The_604_Garage  Год назад

      Thanks! There are probably many other ways to seal the door that will work just as good or better. Thanks for sharing your way. I like cheap and effective!

    Where I live, just the stuff in the door will cost me $400.00 for each door and I have two. Those seals cost $240.00 as well.

    I have been told by a garage door company that the extra weight of the insulation requires new springs or the opener motor will be strained and burn out sooner. What is your experience?

    • @The_604_Garage
      @The_604_Garage  Год назад

      The insulation adds very little weight. Maybe 10-15 lbs at best.

      There are all sorts of rigid foam insulation. The door cavity is probably 1”. Most don’t have the cool foil face, but are still effective. Choosing a non-styrofoam version helps with the cleanup.

    Before the install you mentioned a 1 degree difference in your garage vs outside. Post install what’s the difference?

    • @The_604_Garage
      @The_604_Garage  Год назад +1

      I have no way to accurately measure the difference in temps but I was in my garage tonight in just a t-shirt and it was comfortable. Outside is around 5deg C or 40 deg F and I wouldn’t want to be out there in a t-shirt for very long.

    • @johnlee7085
      @johnlee7085 Год назад +2

      Thermometers are pretty cheap, even in Canada, for measuring room temperatures. The difference is pretty simple math.

    • @taemian
      @taemian Год назад

      Well, since you said there was a 1° difference without the insulation…
      Simply measure the outside temperature and walk into the garage and measure the temperature.

      I just posted a short of the temp difference.

    • @johnlee7085
      @johnlee7085 Год назад

      Only 4 degrees different? 50 - 46? Are your walls and ceiling insulated? That will make a much greater difference.
      It’s 45 degrees here (no snow) and 54 in the garage. That being said, the majority of the walls are insulated though the roof is completely uninsulated.
