How Cats Recognize Their Owners

- Many people wonder if cats recognize their owners because they do not seem to care about us. Cats recognize humans but just ignore us most of the times. Then, how do cats recognize their owners?
No 1. Our Voices - You might think cats would respond best to smell just like dogs. However, according to a study, cats recognize human voices primarily by ears or moving heads. Therefore, if you make an unusual voice, your cat might get nervous and even frightened before sensing your smell.
No 2. Our Smells - Smell is one of the ways cats recognize their owners. Cats have a strong sense of smell, they use it to identify enemies, mates and people. Therefore, they often smell you thoroughly each time you come home with unfamiliar smells.
No 3. Our Faces - Cats recognize our faces but not very well. They have been evolved in the wild to hunt and survive. Therefore, they have a high concentration of rod receptors and a low concentration of cone receptors unlike humans. They also have a wider visual field.
However, cats are nearsighted and color blind seeing shades of blue and green but not reds. Therefore, they just recognize our overall appearance rather than face itself.
No 4. Our Footsteps - Cats used to use their hearing to pinpoint prey, Therefore, they are good at recognizing the sound of our footsteps and even one of our movements when we come home.
If you see your cat waiting in front of the door when you get home, it is likely your cat recognizes the sound of your footsteps in distance.

My cat, Mew (mostly white with a few caramel spots on his face) definitely recognizes me, he has a tendency to huddle close to me in case there are unknown people in the room, often follows my voice and likes to be in the same room as me. I think he recognizes me fairly well
LOL! The cartoon cat in this video looks like my Calico cat, HIME. She knows the sound of my car. I know this because she greets me at the curb when I pull up in my cars and when I drive rental car she is no where to be seen.

I moved houses 2 months ago, we wanted to bring our cat with us but she didnt want to come, over time we got over it, then one day I decided to look for her and try to take her with me, days passed and I didn't see her, Until one time when I was leaving after looking for her, I spotted her on the Neighbors gate, she was so dirty and Fat, She might be pregnant, I was so happy, I tried to take her but she escaped, Ever since I go to see her and either bring some bread for her or meat. Im planning on getting a Cat cage, Get her in there and take her home with us. Thank You to whoever read this comment ❤ May god Protect you and your family
P.S : My cat's name is Chiby, She is a calico cat, I wistled to her so she could come because she is used to it, and to my surprise she Immediately recognized my voice.
