My heart goes out to you. I built houses when I was young. Your scaffolding is not overkill. I appreciate your attention to detail and preplanning. Praying for your health, strength, safely and success. ☝🙏💪👉...
Hi Evan.. Great prep for getting the house ready for the oil! It's gonna look real nice as you finish each board from top to bottom. No streaks 👍 Keep up the good work😎
You are having a great day!!! A little maintenance on a home like that is work but after your finished you can sit back with a cold one and your lovely wife and say wow, we finally made it and look at what we have. Beautiful wife, beautiful home. Enjoy.
I love your house and you take such good care of everything Evan. Take care and hopefully if you do slip the scaffold will catch you. Hugs from Minnesota
wow, that brings back memories. My dad is a retired brick mason and I have built a lot of that exact same scaffolding in my youth. Great job. The scaffold job isn't the funnest but will make the job easier in the long run. Only mistake I would make when building..and it all depends on the setup or application is to put all of what I call the ladder side of the scaffolding against the house. that way as you climb the scaffold, your ladder rungs are all on the same side.
I used PermaChink water based stain and topcoat system on our log home. Have to re-apply in 3 hrs, then every 5 after that. The water based is really nice to work with. I spray it on with a Graco airless sprayer, then brush it in. My biggest issue is decks and rails.....pressure treated wood doesn’t hold stain well at all for first few years and looks like crap quickly. I’m considering replacing deck and rails with Trex and ending this maintenance nonsense.
A big job for sure, we did the exact thing on our log home a few years ago. Probably will opt for a manlift rental next time though. Keep up the good videos. 👍
So I'm starting the same process soon. Been reading a lot on the interwebs trying to decide between log oil and oil-based stain. I'm also gonna apply a Bora treatment with a mold inhibitor before restaining, because mildew has been an issue. Going with a darker color too for more protection.
Just power washed my uncle's house (2 stories plus walkout basement) with a lift bucket. Made it very easy, BUT I can see that we could have never used it to do the stain work like you talked about.
What power washer did you use.... make and model.... great videos.... put link to your Amazon store and make a little $$$.... your video is good ad for the power washer.... start linking stuff to your Amazon store.... $$$$
Hi Evan and Rebecca, I am an avid follower of your channel and enjoy all the explanations! Just to let you know.. I am sure you mentioned a problem with RUclips and notifications in a video or two before this one....I didn’t receive a notification for this one so it’s just to make you aware.
RUclips is glitzy. You may have to double the bell icon and make sure it is still highlighted. But, even if its on, it still misses notifications from time to time.
Do you have a job outside of your place? If so you my man are a very busy guy. I know I had a place with some acreage and worked 50 plus hours a week. It’s a busy lifestyle. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Yes, I work a full time job. I work industrial maintenance fixing equipment. Mostly electrical and control equipment. I film my weekend working on our homestead. I stay pretty busy.
invest in a pair of SR MAX shoes. just for this kind of situation. not lying or plugging a shoe but them shoes will not slide on the slickest surfaces whether they are wet or dry. i have three pairs. for work or home. i wear em every day
That is one big job, high stuff makes me nervous. Beautiful house, I love all the wood but the maintenance is too much for old folk, we like maintenance free. Good Luck Be Safe
Looking at literally 100’s of timber companies. Why’d you go with these guys? Also you went the dry shell option, yes? Did the interior all yourself? May I ask what the ballpark cost was for home, deck, basement ($27k) and labor was? - not the total finished price as you can’t really price all your labor nor do we have 41 acres... but you did sub out the stonework yes? Wish to do the same (but have to build our pond from scratch off of a creek) and walkout I mentioned before ours is roughly 40x40 and at $60k with grading a 12* slope and trees cleared. I’m twice your age maybe. Thanks. I noticed you don’t really answer questions... so crossing my fingers. Curious why your wife isn’t in any of your videos? I watched all 30 build videos Saturday night binge watched. Wow. Lots of work! Just no pricing on the company website. Cheers. BB
I know Evan will take his time and also be careful. the setup and taking down scaffolding is more of a job than the actual work. hopefully you can get about 5 years from the reseal.
Lord have mercy, what else are you going to do . Now you are climbing on top of the house. Please remember safety first. How often will you have to do that .? God bless.
How often will you have to repeat this treatment? If this has to be redone constantly you may want to consider how difficult a job this will be for you thirty years from now. Perhaps it would be a good time to consider a more permanent treatment.
You damaged the wood guarenteed. A soft wash with sodium percarbonate followed by oxalic acid would prep that without damage. And you wouldn't need all the scaffolding.
You are a winner Evan, I like what you do and how you do it...hang in there mate...
My heart goes out to you. I built houses when I was young. Your scaffolding is not overkill. I appreciate your attention to detail and preplanning. Praying for your health, strength, safely and success. ☝🙏💪👉...

Wow. I hope you wont have to do this job too often. I'm sure when you are finished it will look as good as new.
A big job for sure, we did the exact thing on our log home a few years ago. Probably will opt for a manlift rental next time though. Keep up the good videos. 👍

How often will you have to do this process?
After this second application, it is a 5 year cycle.
Greetings. I also live in a log home. What type and brand of log oil are you using?
Outlast Q8 log oil
@@CountryViewAcresok thanks. I am interested in seeing how you apply it.
Good ideas. What brand and finish did you use on your home? I also have a log oiled home. Thanks
In my previous life I use to refinish log homes. I used WoodGuard stains.
I use outlast Q8 log oil. It is what my log home company suggests
Beautiful home but way too much maintenance.

For some reason this didn't show up in my subscription feed. I hope we're not playing this game now RUclips.
👍🤠👏

oh my goodness how the heck ya gonna handle that job in 15 or 20 yrs?
I think we will hire it done in the future.
How often will you have to repeat this treatment? If this has to be redone constantly you may want to consider how difficult a job this will be for you thirty years from now. Perhaps it would be a good time to consider a more permanent treatment.
After this second coat, it is every five years.
Is it just me or is that axle on that trailer dead center not including the tongue.
It is a tilt traler. So it is centered.
You damaged the wood guarenteed. A soft wash with sodium percarbonate followed by oxalic acid would prep that without damage. And you wouldn't need all the scaffolding.
A man lift would get you there.
That’s a GAMI job for me (Get A Man In)
Why didn't you use a lifter bucket to do that
I own the scaffold, so I am working with what I have.
