Wow! What an episode! You both had me on the edge of my seat 😲 Love how calm you both were throughout your ordeals! Wishing you all the best for a fun and event free experience xx ❤ Can’t wait for next week’s episode!
Aww, thank you, Michele. we had a few challenges and kept moving forward. it's great to show Harrison that not everything goes right in life. you've got to keep chipping away ❤️
Hi Troy & Laura, Sorry to hear & see your few mishaps on New Years Day. Hope you are feeling better now Troy! Love how you both just took everything in your stride & kept smiling. Still enjoyed your video though. All the best as you are get really close to setting off. Cheers David & Connie 🙂
Lack of air over imtercooler was the reason youwent into limp mode. Also something that you might not know but a $20 sticker saying do not overtake turning vehicle will save you many fines later. It exempts you from a fine if you cut corners or go over white lines or at roundabouts. It is placed approx 1mtr up and on left side of the caravan. Enjoy your travels
Another Great Episode 👍 Things do go wrong time to time but you both have the best Outlook on everything 💓 Harrison and King Billy are so quiet sitting in the back 😂 Looking forward to next week's episode take care 🍹👍😎🏕
Great episode, wonderful country shame you couldn’t have stayed longer Troy was lucky with the drone could have been a lot worse.Power loss was most likely the engine derating itself because of transmission temps or intercooler air heat soak ,talk to Toyota,I always tow in 4th gear in my 200 series so best to sought this all out now before you set off on the big one,Cocoa enjoyed it all I see good luck with the preparation for your trip look forward to seeing all the adventures.😀
Thanks Roger, yes we definitely had that discussion with the doctor.extremely great, full, and fortunate it wasn't an eye. Thanks for giving us an idea of the issue with the car. towing up a steep hill definitely overheated the turbo and intercooler issues. Seems a common problem. Haha, Coco always gets to live the dream ❤️ 😍
Sorry to see you guys had a rough time, we hope everything works out well. It was still a great video. Our friends are farmers they will know how to stitch you up, bloody classic Laura 😂😂😂 harden up Troy 😅😅
😄. It's all good. Not everything goes to plan. We had a great time. Classic, l know right getting a farmer to stitch me up, what could go wrong 🤔 😂. l definitely should've had a cup of concrete 😄 🤣
When it never rains but it pours! Troy get a hard hat & full face shield! Did you travel between Tumut & Cooma on the Snowy Mountains Hwy? I looked at it but wasn’t brave enough to tow a caravan. Some parts are very narrow.
Such a great episode… I really felt for you both, so many challenges but you got through it together. Let’s hope that’s the worst over and done with … 😊
Wow, I think you were extremely lucky with only a couple of cuts on your chin. My husband lost his eye with a propeller as it broke off and went into his eye. Take care and I hope you heal quickly.
Great episode! I have a 200 and always drive in S4 when towing the van. On really steep hills will drop it down to S3 and S2 on hairpins. Believe this is best for the engine and fuel economy, but not sure if same applies to the 300.
Well! As other people have said, this had everything indeed 😂hope your chin is healing up ok. A little touch up for wedding photos, no one will know 😉 Perhaps you need a tent for your lap too so you avoid those pickle situations 😅
Most action packed ep ever I think. We could see from the vid how steep that track was. With us and our 3.5t van we're thinking can we do it or yeah nah. I guess you never never know if you never never go
We had a bad Xmas break as well, transmission broke as heading down steep hill on day 1 of our break, able to drive in low range to nearest town, 70 km away and $1200 tow bill, now it’s has no gears at all….$$ and missed the rest of our camping trip.
Another entertaining video. Might I suggest you invest in a set of propeller guards if you want to get up close and personal with your drone. I never launch from my hand but always try to catch it when my flight is done. Also, you might consider getting a Scan gauge or Ultra gauge with which you can monitor among other things, the Transmission Temperature. I use an UltraGauge and when towing my caravan, I monitor which gear I'm in (I always tow in manual mode to prevent my 200 series from towing in 6th gear). I also monitor whether the transmission is locked or unlocked and finally, I monitor the Transmission Temperature. If the temperature gets higher than I like I drop down a gear and I always try to get the transmission to lock up as that reduces the temperature considerably. I haven't fitted an aftermarket transmission lockup kit but find I can get the transmission to lock up by manipulating the revs and gears in my 6-speed auto transmission. I think your 300 series has more gears but the principle would be the same. I'm looking forward to your upcoming trip
Thanks, Tom, for some great advice. l wasn't aware of propeller guards. We'll check them out. yeah, generally, l never take off from my hand, l didn't want the drone to return to home on the road and ended up in long grass that l couldn't take off from. the hard lessons are the best learnt 🤔 😃
Hi Katherine, it's a tough stretch at the moment with a few lane closures but a beautiful drive. Thank you a week on and it seems to be healing very well 🙏 😊
Hope you are recovering well. 1st. You went limp mode for few reasons. Transmission temp too high, intercooler temp too high. I suggest getting lock up kit and use tiptronic and select gear on hills. 2nd. cable in starlink isnt fibreoptic. It’s CAT6 cable (LAN cable) 3rd I suggest getting decent tyre deflator if you are planning to do lap. Ichecktpms or tuffterrain is way to go these days. Lastly, dont go so hard on your gear. You will be strained middle of nowhere when it fails on you. Lastly, try to hard mount your air compressor rather than carryon box. Its all n good if you are doing short trips but when you are doing lap. There will be times you are doing inflating daily basis. Saves you about 2 tires quicker being hard mounted with pressure control units over your current setup.
Cheers, Jay, you make some great suggestions. We have other deflators l just happened to use the arb deflator at the time. lm ok having the carry case it's a bit more versatile that way. Probably look at putting an Anderson plug rather than directly to the battery. Yep, Laura got the cable wrong it's Cat 6 , which you have to be careful with. 👍
Must admit thought it would been a head but from Coco not the Drone!! Interested to hear Toyota's explanation of the limp mode issue on Brown Mountain . We use Brown Mountain a lot living in the area and will need to tow 3.5 over it with the LC 300 a fair bit.
Hi guys, another great episode. That was so lucky that it wasn’t more serious with the drone incident. Glad you are ok. Check out all 4 adventure. Jason just had some work done to the engine of his 300 and Matt from just autos talks about the issues with turbos doing just what happened to you guys. Hope that helps. Keep up the great work guys.
Ah well shit happens on the best of days , always makes good chat around the fire and a couple of bevvys, you both keep it real and thats how you are no b/ s , great vid by the way 👍
Hey Troy, I noticed you had to hold your tyre inflator hard up against the valve. A handy trick is to put it on then rotate it clockwise to engage the thread and no more leaks. Cheers, love your vids.
Laura’s making light of the situation as her friends can stitch her hubbies chin up! Quite funny in hind-site ( sorry).Glad you’re ok and the coleslaw was all sorted!
You just have those days don’t you where it all goes to 💩 must admit your drone mishap had me giggling as my hubby got his brand new one, we were camping at rosebud and looking forward to some good drone footage. Hubby testing it out impressed at how it avoids obstacles and was demonstrating and he smacked it into the caravan awning and broke it. I was not impressed. So if we’d being videoing us, there would have been a lot of bleeps!! So a detour to Keysborough to DJI on the way home. So glad we aren’t the only ones 😂
Thanks Kerry, yes you certainly do have bad days, Oh no 😢 Yep the drone can play up from time to time, unfortunately. hopefully, you can get it fixed 🙏
Luckily it was only $90 and they were super fast so we were very impressed and relieved. More damage to hubby’s pride I think & he felt pretty stupid, probably same with Troy 😂
Did it overheat and go into limp mode, my ford did that up a big hill twice when trying to hold a too high speed, back a gear and slow down a bit and all good. What did dealer say?

Hahaha, Laura sounds like me if I had to walk up that hill, interesting trip by the looks 😳
Haha omg l think anyone would puff running up that hill 😅

Thanks Paul, 😄 the boys can sense when things aren't going well ❤️
Love the sideways looks as he fixes the flat tyre. Going to be a loooooooong trip round. 🙂

Wow what an episode. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing now. Your a very capable lady Lora & staying calm. Safe & happy travels.

Bummer about the Drone Troy, looks painful, mate when towing you should always use Manuel mode unless on nice flat hwys, it’s always good practice😎
Thanks Peter, yep definitely agree 👍
When it never rains but it pours!
Troy get a hard hat & full face shield!
Did you travel between Tumut & Cooma on the Snowy Mountains Hwy?
I looked at it but wasn’t brave enough to tow a caravan.
Some parts are very narrow.
Certainly does. nah, we travel the browns trail with a few lane closures pretty tight but doable.

hey team love the episode, i nearly lost a eye from a drone, i was very lucky, 4 days in the e&e amd still don’t hane full sight back.

Great video guys - just ironing out the kinks and getting the issues out before the big lap 😂
Thank you, Tracey. We both said the same 😊

Glass half full 🤔 😂 🤣
My reply was sincere and based on years of personal experience.@@JourneyUnknown
Great video. Did you find out what caused the loss of power in the 300 when towing up the hill?
Thank you 🍻. Apparently, it's low air intake 🤔
@@JourneyUnknown ok, but if that is true, it seems that Mr Toyota’s 300 Series engine has a design problem.
Possibly. most people are getting after-market intercooler put in to prevent it from happening
Everyone in the back of the car trying not to laugh, even the dog.
😄 they held on tight 😁
well that episode had everything didnt it as always thanks for sharing

Might be time for a goatee…looks like one on the vid, with the dried blood lol. Anyway, nice to know shite doesn’t just happen to us on travels!
😂 classic. Yep, it happens to all of us, unfortunately 😔
We lived through 3 winters in the early 80s. The temperatures were down to minus 14.
That was in Cooma.
That would've been cold 🥶
Jeezus, Troy! Right!, that’s your ‘one’… quota used. No more for the rest of the trip, thanks.

Hi Troy just wondering the make of your drone and is it any good
Hey Jeff, it's a DJI Mavic Air 2s, l like it flies really well, especially if it's a bit windy
Laura’s making light of the situation as her friends can stitch her hubbies chin up! Quite funny in hind-site ( sorry).Glad you’re ok and the coleslaw was all sorted!
Oh Troy loved that comment! Ha ha, he'll probably mention that in his wedding speech.

Super
perfect 👌
Troy you duffa....nothing a beer wont fix.
Haha 💯 🍻 🍺 🍻
Chin up Troy lol, serious note you were lucky
😄 cheers mate 👍
Nice work there with the drone.. put your tshirt in cold very salty water over night and it will draw the blood stain out. Then wash as normal
Thanks, that's a great tip. we tried to wash it with no success. Hopefully, it comes good 👍 🙏

I think you needed Benny Hill music for this episode 😂😂
Haha very much so 😅
If you had adopted the 3 second rule you could have just scooped up the coleslaw, back into the bowl and no dramas.
😂 There were a few other pressing moments to deal with 😂
Did it overheat and go into limp mode, my ford did that up a big hill twice when trying to hold a too high speed, back a gear and slow down a bit and all good. What did dealer say?
Nah, no limp mode. it basically stopped for 5 seconds, then the turbo kicked back in. We rested for 10 minutes and then used manual mode.
Cool thanks for the reply 🙂
I’ve had that happen in the 300 not towing just going around a corner from a start. It’s like a lag in the switch between the twin turbo.
@DC-ri2cn Yeah, it seems that was the issue
