The Melee one is probably the creepiest. It literally sounds like the unlockable fighter was some highly-dangerous entity that they locked up with maximum security and that the alarm is saying that they've broken out and are on the loose.
Staying up til 1 in the morning grinding through 3 different adventure modes then all of a sudden the melee challenger approaching made it worth it. Luigi, Jigglypuff and Dr. Mario now that I recall.
Man, I really miss completing specific tasks to unlock specific characters. Always made them feel so much more special and exciting! Unlocking characters by just playing matches just isn't the same.
I've always hated only getting one shot at the end of each game to unlocking the characters; and if I lose, I have to play the whole game all over again in order to fight them once more. That's way too much of a gamble for me to handle. 🤷♂️
Nah I don’t think so, in later games you can just unlock jiggly puff through regular matches. I mean in terms of cpu difficulty I’ll agree that it becomes more difficult
Brawl scared the hell out of me when I was younger. The Challenger Approaching, the fish in the Summit stage, and the Towtow enemy from Subspace spooked me. I was kind of scared of the Ultimate Chimera on New Pork City, but not exactly. It just gave me chills and I also camped on the platforms. There's no denying that you were scared by all of those also lmao
I think the new challenger siren from Melee scared me the most as a kid. It still does to this day. I love how the past Smash bros games, there's a specific requirement or play the amount of VS matches that you need to do to unlock characters. However in Ultimate, there is no requirement, just do VS matches and you'll unlock a random character. I miss the old method, idk if anyone would agree. But still Super Smash Bros Ultimate is awesome!
Nice video Master0fHyrule! If I had Smash and saw any of those challengers and lost against them, I would be raging, since it would take many more challengers before I can fight that challenger again.
I know Melee's is quite scary, but Brawl's honestly scared the hell out of me as a kid. Not only because I didn't expect it, but also because it looked terrifying. It felt like an actual warning.
Same. Hell to this day it still does. I think it’s mostly due to the ambient sounds mixed with the sirens and background that make it creepy and unsettling.
Sucks to say that even though Melee and Brawl were my favourite smash games, there are items in unlockable character battles in those games. Which means you can win easily, or you can get unlucky by having a explosive weapon blasted at ya, or your opponent being invincible. A 1 vs. 1 puts up a perfect fight without any items.
Seeing a character in Smash for the first time by unlocking them and seeing their silhouette in the Challenger Approaching screen for the first time is a million times more hyped than seeing reveal trailers. I miss the days when the Internet wasn't mainstream and didn't spoil everything in a blink of a eye.
Melees give me chills, It wasn't where I first heard it but whenever I hear its alarm I get unsettled. Brawls can be scary at first but its not thaf scary after 3 times but Melees I almost feel like they intended Melees to be unsettling
I love how in all the games despite ness being barely known because of not a lot of people playing earthbound he is still the first character you unlock.
I miss playing Smash Bros, I'll miss it more once the final challenger Pack is announced and then the presentation, and then hoping it comes out soon to play it, and then the end.
To unlock the following in Smash N64: • Luigi: Complete the Break the Target stages of the 8 starter fighters. • Ness: Complete 1P Mode on Normal difficulty or higher without using Continues. • Captain Falcon: Complete 1P Mode in under 20 minutes. • Jigglypuff: Complete 1P Mode.
unpopular opinion but for the unlock fights if a character is from a fighting game ( E.G. Ryu from Street Fighter) the fight should be in stamina what does everyone else think
nah. i wish the challenger approaching battles at least had no items and was on battlefield. those cpus in ultimate were tough when the game first came out and it'd make for great offline practice
My initial thought was like why are you picking on Jigglypuff like that when the video first started but I like this video!!! FYI I know the challenger approaching thing be at random! At least until Brawl anyway 😆
I've played through Melee over and over since it came out and each time i used Link and came across that "A New Foe Has Appeared" i always imagine Link putting away his sword then hearing the alarm and him redrawing hIs sword and looking back at a shadowy area where the Foe appears from with that look that says "I'm always ready for a fight"
I remember playing Super Smash bros Brawl with my friend who owns it. but she doesn't know how to unlock characters because she wanted to play as Sonic. But she finally unlocked Sonic after facing him. and I couldn't get the 3DS version right before my 3DS got broken 😔
I can’t be the only one who thought something was wrong with the melee disc when reaching the challenger approaching screen the first few times when I was younger
I like the Melee alert sound the most. It just sounds more like "Alert, a challenger appeared! Be prepared!". The sirens after that sound so... weak? Hard to explain...
When I unlocked Luigi in Smash Bros Melee, I think I was playing as either Captain Falcon or Mario or even Dr Mario, funny thing about that. Luigi ended up killing himself (falling off the stage). I didn't lay a single hand on him, and he went off the stage and ended his career.
Each time I see a small clip of anything in brawl, my body just shakes like a earthquake is inside me. Maybe I loved brawl when I played on the wii 7 years ago but my father bought me a ps4 and sold all my wii games for 5 bux without my permission. He said 'old games they are bad' sad face 😞
I don't exactly like how they kept Brawl's sound for both SSB4 and Ultimate. Melee's was the most unique, having an ominous alarm, while 64 being a variation of the 1P game jingle.
(Sora appears as challenger). Sora the magic key warrior: Here I come!! >:) Cloud Strife: Barf.... T_T (Updates fighters from smash bros ultimate as new challengers). Some DLCs and original fighters: Why did we hear boss music...? 8/
As much as I love the Smash games, my biggest gripe with all of them is how they handled with unlocking the characters. You have to beat the game either a certain amount of times or depending on which specific character you use; and then at the end, you have to fight the unlockable character in order to get them. But you only get one shot, and if you lose, you have to play through the whole thing all over in order to fight them again. Personally, that's just too much work for me. I'd rather just fight the new characters in between battles, get some chances to continue, and then automatically unlock them at the end after beating the game. In this day and age, I'd rather just look up cheat codes to unlock everything or load up Pre-saved datas. This has been a personal issue that I've had since Smash 64. Guess, I just have no integrity. 🙄🎮
i don't think he plays competitively or even goes to tournaments. also evo already happened a few months ago earlier this year. the upcoming tournament you're prolly getting confused about is summit 3
What evolution video should I do next? (doesn't have to be about smash!)
Evolution of build your game or level games. Or even games with a mode that lets you build a game or level.
@@Starluxe0 I’m not 100% sure but I think the creator of the vid can comment on the vid, before uploading it, maybe while it is private.

Jigglypuff has had enough of everyone falling asleep when they sing.
It was about time they did something about it.
what freaked me out on the challenger approaching screen was that i never expected it
Pretty sure it is since they are trophies
Couldn’t have said it better myself. As a kid, I was always terrified of unlocking characters bc of the challenger approaching screen itself
SCP-1738: Jigglypuff
I feel like the Challenger Approaching peaked at Melee, but the "Joins the Battle" got better with each game.
Melee has the Best Alarm sound.
Brawl and every game after have the best New Fighter Jiggle.
The Melee one gave me chills when I was a kid

Man, I really miss completing specific tasks to unlock specific characters. Always made them feel so much more special and exciting! Unlocking characters by just playing matches just isn't the same.
The roster simply became too big
Thats the darn way i unlocked everyone in smash
The only problem with completing tasks is that not everyone will be able to try out all the characters if they couldn’t figure out how to unlock them
I've always hated only getting one shot at the end of each game to unlocking the characters; and if I lose, I have to play the whole game all over again in order to fight them once more. That's way too much of a gamble for me to handle. 🤷♂️
I wish that was the case, because a challenger approaching is scarier than a fnaf jumpscare
Always gets tears from 3DS one. My last challenger was Jigglypuff btw.
And still miss the fackin cracking alert siren from Wii.
