Awesome to see that some of the tracks have been cleared and running a speeder. Sad to see the tracks and trains deteriorating. It will be gone before long. I was a "Friend" (FEBT) and volunteered several times in the early 90's. Great video, Thanks for sharing and to all those that helped clear the tracks and make this video/trip possible. Green lights.
Great job of getting the image fairly solid. Those narrow gauge speeders (and the track) -- make shooting like that VERY difficult. The first time I did it, I was sitting on a box on the end of the speeder the weekend M-3 resturned... And most of the time I got sky, ground, crops, not the little m-3 less than 500 feet ahead. I posted one with a glidecam a few days ago... which is much smoother, but still bouncy in places.
Two guys have a video like this on a homebuilt speeder. The are having the time of their lives putting down the rails with their boombox blaring "Don't you toucha my toot toot"!
It is in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania, USA. From where we started heading south it is as far as it is going to go. Any farther would require crossing a state road, not allowed at this time. Going North from were we started you can take the train about 2.5 miles and then back. All the buildings and RR are late 19th century. An un touched time capsule. I have a few other EBT videos on my channel check them out. Also search for east broad tops web site. Thanks for checking my vids.
The railroad hasn't driven an actual train down the line since it closed in 1956. There is no traffic even allowed at that part of the line, as you're allowed to only go north near Shippensburg. They're thinking of making a rail trail down this line along with repairing the track as well in the future.
For some reason, I am okay with this Rails to Trails plan. It'll be like what the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has, with the footpath running alongside the railroad right-of-way.
Oh so very wrong... The M1 made a trip south of the High School in 1961 or so to prove that the railroad ROW was still useable, otherwise the Southern Huntingdon County High School wanted to remove the tracks and put the school on the tracks. Last railroad related movement south of the 475 crossing was the motorcar known as the Silver Sight See'er in 1968 when a group of rail fans rented the motorcar for a trip south to three springs. Perhaps you have information that I don't, but last time I checked there is no interest in a rails to trails program...
A ticket to ride or the speeder itself? The tickets for East Broad Top Railroad speeder ride tickets are sold at Orbisonia Station, Rockhill Furnace, PA. Speeders aren't made anymore. NARCOA is the organization for owners and collectors of speeders.
So far, this is the best video I found about railcars. I felt myself on command. One question: at 2:40, the track is not clear for you. Is the traffic so rare on this rail, once you dared to do this?
Actually the tall building is a Sand tower . It housed dry sand for locomotive traction. The pipe coming out of the ground is a Stand Pipe / Water Crane for delivering water to the locomotive.
Thanks.. Making the EBT in Train Sim 2017, thinking of making a "What if" Version of the line being extended in some way.. Possibly to Poge Bridge, just need somewhere to turn the train round,

Hard to believe it will be 10 years since I shot this video.
I'm surprised this line survived as long as it did without being looted or vandalized. It's good that it's been revived in recent years.

I love the stub switches, they have to be the last ones anywhere in the US....

Soon there will be trains running past that stop sign !!
8 Mil for the whole RR, wow! It's such a beautiful rail line and it's just a shame to see our own American history go right out the window ya know?

Sweet video, do you know what the plans are for the East Broad Top as far as operations in the near future?
No idea what so ever. I am keeping my feelers out though. I understand you can buy the whole EBTRR for US$8,000,00.00 Which I think is scrap value.
3:05 "smile, be happy!"

man the sound of the hit-and-miss engine hurts my ears lol
Where can you buy these?
a speeder. Are there any sites to buy used ones?
its a shame the EBT closed, i hope they reopen in 2013
Still dead in 2019.

At 1:15 a genuine water tender!

Where is Poge Bridge?
Will Coleman poge bridge is south of orbisonia a few miles

Start at the NARCOA web site at narco -dot- org . They have a buy/sell/swap area. 3-foot gauge speeders like the one in the video are very rare.
Faster!
