How to Remove Dome Globe Glass Light Cover Shield Replacement on Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Windward II
Yes, some of you have already seen this on our previous channel - one of the more ridiculous designs of a ceiling fan (still the same in 2020!) Be very careful when doing this method. It might help if you have another set of hands to hold the main body of the fan while you remove the dome. BE CAREFUL! this silly design include models: Hampton Bay Windward and Windward II, 523 342 or 523 127 part numbers.
Here's where you can buy the light on Amazon amzn.to/2PB5amv

Just curious: Do you have issues using the dimmer feature of the light with this bulb? I'm trying to figure out how to replace the ballast which the manufacturer doesn't make anymore, and I didn't realize until now that fluorescent bulbs generally aren't dimming bulbs. I had replaced the original bulb with the GE 9 in version of this circline bulb, which is not indicated to be a dimming bulb. My family never used to use the dimming feature (just turned the fan on/off @ 100%), but I realized our tenants do. Not sure if that's the reason the ballast failed in 5 years or if that was just coincidental though.
Huge dad energy here
Gotta love it
The best kind!
❤ Just what I needed (miss my Dad!). Thanks so much!
FINALLY! I've been trying for months to figure out how to get the dome off - here's to finally having overhead light in the kitchen again!!
Thank you, I had attempted many times to remove the dome globe light but it was too tight. Tried to look at a few videos for instructions on an easier way to loosen the dome globe but with no success. Your video with simple instructions was what helped me find the trick to loosen the globe. Thank you much, for sharing this video.
Make sure you complain to Hampton Bay for a ridiculous design... sighhh
THANK YOU! My light has been so stuck I just had to bring in lamps, after struggling for hours and hours trying to get off the dome without breaking it, but I finally got it free without breaking it thanks to this.
OMG THANK YOU!
A year with this fan and could not get the cover off. First try after your video and it popped right off!
Thanks! These yellow lights in my new apt were driving me nuts!
Thanks so much for the video, I was afraid to add any real force because I thought I'd accidentally rip it out of the ceiling. But after seeing you whoop on it, I got the confidence I needed to change my lightbulb. You're a champ 💪💪
Great video! Mine was stuck pretty good. I felt like I was going to break the fan getting it loose.
I felt it too ,can I ask was it Wobbly? ,I had to Turn it to lock it back in ,BC when the fan was on it kept on making those noise.
Thank you! Quick and easy. Now have to buy the replacement bulb.
Thank you so so much. You saved my day :) You instructed really good. I felt like I'm standing right next to you as a friend.
It worked!!! Thank you so much. I was ready to rip the whole fan off!
Legend. I have a rental and didn’t want to brute force it, helped a lot.
I didn't have to wet my hand but the motion you used literally worked!! Thanks for making this video! I tried getting this thing off for a year now!! Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much! I have a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan and it looks just like yours. Your instructions were short and to the point.
OMG, thank you! I have a different model fan in my apartment but similar enough and after a few unsuccessful attempts I gave up for fear of breaking the damn thing. This was so helpful!
Great help for me, thanks so much for your time making this video. I've actually got a Winward III, but the principle of the lower globe removal is the same. It took a few tries using your "slapping" method on the cleaned glass, but it worked. I noticed that as I was slapping it, the light started to flicker. I assume it was a loose heater filament inside the bulb. I think the fan is close to 20 years old. After I first assembled it, I realized that bulb was going to be hard to find a replacement for, so I bought one when they went on clearance a few years later. I actually bought 4 of these expensive fans, which I think cost in the area of $200 each. Since then I have had to replace both the upper and lower bulbs on several of them, the lower ballast on one of them, a fan dual capacitor, plus the transmitter on one of them. Very expensive and hard-to-find parts, but the fans are beautiful (when they work), and are very quiet. The low profile design is very nice, and I like the thermostatic control.
Thanks! We just did it to our ceiling fan dome and it worked like this man just said in the video. We appreciate it very much
Thanks to you. 😁👍💐
this worked after several days of trying to force it--you don't have to hit it very hard just a glancing blow. Thanks!
Thank you!! You saved me frustration galore!! The extra tips on getting it started helped a lot.
the Thanks Button awaits you
After 3 yes of my hub not doing this, I watched your video and got it done!!! Thanks
Thank you.!!!!! I wish I would have seen this before just broke mine 🤦🏽♂️
I broke mine also!! Where did you buy a replacement. I got my new lightbulb from Amazon
@@maureenbaillargeon1615 I honestly didn’t replace it. I just glued it back for now 😂
That a next check thing or something like that. 😂
You can't buy a new replacement globe (unless you get lucky used.) Just buy a new fan and be done with it.
It was tight and a complete mystery. Your bump method worked perfectly. Thanks
We’ve been struggling to take off the light for over a week and even after the video I still struggled. So I decided to listen and lick my hand and he wasn’t lying it worked 😆
Thankyou, I just bought this fan ( second hand) and no instructions were included. You saved a lot of frustration for me.
Your solution was the only great on RUclips to repair my fan.
Thanks for your video 👍💪☺️🙏
Thank you soo muuchh!! I’ve been trying for months using multiple “tricks” and this was iittt!! ❤❤❤
It worked , the dome came right off. Thank you
Thank you very much. I had no idea how to remove the globe until I saw this video. Thank you again!
Great video very useful tips. I tried everything I could until I learnt from here that you should use your whole palm and hit it hard.
Thank-you! I was not finding the answer to the dilemma anywhere.
This worked! Thank you genius man. I️ tried the tapping, that didn't work, but slapping it counterclockwise did.
Worked wonderfully, got mine off no problem. After repeated frustrations with different methods this was a relief. Thank you very much.
Yes thank you!!! Hahaha! I was trying to figure how to remove it. Success!
Thanks!!!! Felt stupid smacking that thing but it worked!!! God bless this man!!!
Send complaints to Hampton Bay Inc.... 🤣
Thank you. Worked great on my Hunter-terrible designs are not proprietary to Hampton Bay 😂

After month trying finally your technique worked🎉👍🏼Thank you so much 😁
Thank you man after 6 months finally
Thank you I followed your technique and it worked perfectly
Thanks for the video. I have the same one I put up 3 years ago and couldn't remember.
This worked with a stuck globe. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Turns out it was just the weird 75Q/CL bulb that blew out. Easy enough.
Thank you! I did call a friend, he couldn’t figure it out either!😆I figured it was something like you showed, but... just thanks!🌼
After trying everything, This 100% worked! You rock! Thanks!!!!

Thank you. Only your video helped me to remove this glass
Cool! Literally helped me get the dome light cover out!! Tyvm
Thank you so much! I will try this as just trying to use brute force made me think it was going to break. I've over the yellow light hue of my fan light and want the daylight bulb. Will be trying this today! #Salute
Use something sticky on your hands to get better grip of the dome. Or pad your hands and whop it firmly. Just be careful. Works though.
Something tells me I was supposed to figure it out myself
Thanks, helpful and entertaining.
Best video out there, makes it a little easier to give it that little slap with your reassurance lol thanks!
Mine had screws but this helped me figure that out! I did it!
Dampening it worked incredibly well.
Thank you. Great video. I’ve been looking all over for this!
Thank you so much!!!! Mine wouldn’t budge after couple of slaps (I tried not too hard at first), but I was desperate lol, so I gave it a hard whoppin and voila! I was able to change the bulb thanks to you!!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It works for most people. But as they say - your "mileage" may vary how effectively it works. Always be careful doing this.
Brahhhhhh thank youuuuuuu

Thank you so much for this. My sis and I have to do the bond clean for our house, otherwise we have to pay $650 for one 😅
The slap ridiculously worked, haha, thanks!
Struggled for so long and had to look up this video, a moist hand and a slap did the trick!
Thank you so much for this video! Our light is on a looooong arm from a tall ceiling, so I was very hesitant to slap it. But seeing your video gave me the confidence to slowly work it lefty loosey, so thank you. What a dumb design lol
