On stage, Tommy Cooper was a master of slapstick humor and magic tricks gone hilariously wrong. His catchphrase, "Just like that!" became synonymous with his unpredictable performances. He appeared on renowned variety shows, including "Sunday Night at the London Palladium" and "The Morecambe and Wise Show," and became a regular at the Royal Variety Performance, performing in front of the British royal family.
However, behind the scenes, Tommy Cooper grappled with a dark side. His battle with alcoholism was well-documented, casting a shadow over his personal life. Alcohol fueled erratic behavior, strained relationships, and took a toll on his health. Moreover, allegations of physical abuse emerged, adding a troubling dimension to his personal history. These revelations have contributed to a more complex understanding of the man who made the world laugh.
Despite the darkness that clouded his personal life, Tommy Cooper's legacy as a comedy icon endures. His timeless humor continues to bring joy to audiences, and his daughter, Vicky Cooper, has candidly shared insights into both his comedic brilliance and the challenges he faced. Tommy Cooper's story is a testament to the enduring appeal of laughter and the complexities that often accompany the lives of those who bring it to the world. Well, this is revealing! We all know about Tommy telling jokes and performing magic but who knew he was an ace impressionist ?
The way he portrayed a young Sacha Distel @ 1'10 and that ragged Scottish Actor: Russell Hunter @ 1'30 is uncanny😀
He was an amazing magician, and used to perform after, and before he went on stage.
Tommy Cooper’s daughter “breaks her silence” well, I didn’t hear her 😳
I think there was a mention at 5.50 that he drank a lot and life at home was difficult....otherwise clickbait I'm afraid.
probably too busy counting his money.
@@davidwaddington9414 better his daughter counting the money than his mistress.
Tommy Cooper was one of a kind. Truly unique. He didn't copy anyone as he didn't need to. He was good at taking the mickey out of himself.
His goofing around with his magic tricks was sensational. The Indian rope trick that wouldn't work out. The outlandish props that broke the
audience up without a word being said. The fez evoked laughter again and again. Then he'd follow this up with a genuine trick that thrilled
everyone. Like the bottles multiplying. Who cares if he wasn't tee total? Who cares if he wasn't perfect? He was TOMMY COOPER!!!
@johnledingham852 Exactly john, well said, Kudos
So sad. One minute he was here, the next he was gone.
Just like that.
Not like that, like that!
Same for all. So what ?
I said to the gym instructor: ‘Can you teach me to do the splits?’ He said: ‘How flexible are you?’ I said: ‘I can’t make Tuesdays’.”
Comedy comes from a dark place in many peoples life. Myself living with parents who was also alcoholic you learn to pick the good times over the not so good times. Myself today I still think Tommy Cooper was and will be one of the UK greats of all time
One of a generation of performers who started in the military. Many of them mentally damaged by their war service and no help with their mental problems and who turned to drink to cope with the memories.
Dumped by the establishment, no honour from the establishment, and hypocrisy at the Cenotaph.
Why have you put a photograph of Sasha Distel the French singer on this upload? Have you made a misteke in selecting the correct photo of Tommy Cooper as a young man?
I thought the same.Maybe Sasha was his father ?😂😂😂
Wasn't me
First Sacha Distel ,immediately, followed by Scottish Actor,Russell Hunter, again supposed to be Tommy:)
@@Isleofskye looked like it could be old clip from "Callan" Russell Hunter as lonely looks nothing like tommy ...
@@philipbrougham6360 Yes,that's what I thought and the previous image of a youngSacja Distel looked even less like Tommy:)
I used to know a sound engineer who worked with Tommy at Thames TV. He told me that they always had to send a car to pick him up, otherwise he would not get past the first pub.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing this info about Tommy! Much appreciated ❣
Actors and performers are human just the same as social media users so why do we not expect these entertainers to be different from the rest of us? Tommy Cooper made most people laugh even though he was imperfect in other areas of his life. I have inherited some of my parents bad points but also some of their good ones. None of us is perfect but generally we manage to get along with each other alright.
Dont know whose picture appears at 1.10 but it aint Tommy Cooper. As for his 'daughter breaking her silence'....a 10 second quote.
For gods sake - correct your content!!!
click bait
Tommy's personal life is nothing to do with anyone else . So he had struggles , he was human . Still miss him . Wonderful entertainer , very funny .
I remember we were watching the night he collapsed on stage and was confused what was going on and then after live at her majesty's finished Trevor Mcdonald announced that Tommy Cooper had died and was in tears
Not many people can die and then be in tears as well. Another of Tommy's magic tricks.
I like the "his real name" bit.... Thomas Cooper. 😀
I saw Tommy Cooper live, he was funny but it was also sad, in a nightclub environment it was blatantly clear to me that he was more drunk than I was.
No it doesn't , to me Tommy Cooper was one of the best British entertainers. He made the majority of people laugh even royalty, when he died he left a great legacy.
Is this an AI voice or an American? Either way, it has no place in this video.
So us Americans cant enjoy Tommy Cooper?? I love British humor!
@@piscesempress1978 my apologies. I had no idea Mr Cooper’s brand of hilarity had made it across the pond!
Please enjoy❤️
I met one of his friends…she and her husband used to meet tommy and his wife socially in London.(.my claim to fame..)
I am a straight 69-year-old Londoner but if there was one guy that I would have loved to have been then it was French Singer: Sacha Distel. Woman used to feint when admiring his Beauty, which is not a word that is, usually, used to describe a Man and yet here he is SUPPOSED to be Tommy Cooper @ 1.10.😀 and this pictureure does not begin to do him justice hence someone thinking he was Tommy! Immediately, afterwards there is a picture of ragged Scottish Actor: Russell Hunter who the narrator ALSO thinks is Tommy.
HILARIOUS
Tommy Cooper, whose real name was Tommy Cooper.
He would have liked that one himself.
Old story/news. The only thing I didn't like about the tv drama was I thought they made David Threfall look like Wallace out of Wallace and Gromit with that ridiculous mouth padding! Tommy didn't look like that.
Don’t remember him on the morecombe and wise show
If you look at the picture of him @1' 10 then it might jog your memory.
Thats not Tommy's photo!!!!!
God but I LOVED Tommy he just had to look down the TV and I was laughing very SAD day when he passed RIP - Never be the same comedian can’t say anything funny about anything if they do some people say they are racism what a miserable word we live in never be the same gone R the 60 70 80 90 for fun x laughter on r TV ☘️That is way don’t watch it any because it is RUBBISH 👎🏻😡to Tommy ❤️⭐️👏🍀
4.09 "...providing stability & a sense of normalcy..."
There is no such word in the English language as 'normalcy'. The word is 'normality'!!!
Actually, they're interchangeable:
Normalcy and normality both mean the quality or condition of being normal, especially in the context of the general state of things, as in It was a welcome return to normalcy/normality after such a chaotic period.
So what was the daughter's revelation, why highlight the video with a none event,, it's a reasonable video, although it shows some film of two comediams early in the video, neither are in fact Tommy cooper
Clickbait..
Nothing new here……he was a comedian, he was married with kids, had a mistress and a problem with alcohol. That’s pretty much it……fascinating.
Alakazam!
WHY ON EARTH HV U SACHA DISTEL & RUSSELL HUNTER UP⁉️ U HV NO IDEA WHAT U ARE NARRATING TO‼️‼️‼️

IF YOU ARE GOING TO DISH THE "FACTS" ON A COMEDIC LEGEND AT LEAST GET THE PHOTOGRAPHS ALIGNED CORRECTLY WITH THE PERSON IN QUESTION!
Why is absolutely EVERYTHING "iconic" to the yanks.
Not all of us say that.
I saw the tv movie I was very disappointed with it
yeah he weas brill at what he did. and yes the real stars of comedy have destructive side look at freddie Starr if he wasn't so nuts, he wouldn't have been so good. I have a few stories of him in the early days in Liverpool. as a nutter and thief
Always click bait
click bait
The actor in the film looks nothing like him!
A i b s
More clickbait crap.
Well, howz about that then !😂😛
"Not a lot of people know that" and Michael Caine never said that either.
I always heard Tommy's wife was very controlling and handled all the money .to my was afraid of her.😊
It’s a Bloody robot 🤖 🤮
He never said "Just like that".
Actually he did. I saw him many times when I was a kid in the early 60s and it was one of his catch phrases. And his autobiography has the phrase on the front cover.
He most certainly did, as kids we all used to try copying him, it was his catchphrase amongst others 😁
So you obviously never saw him just like that 😂
@@Kiss_My_Art In an interview with Parkinson he denied saying it which is why I said that - just like that.......😆
I did nt find him funny at all how did Tommy cooper die just like that
🤔 Maybe next time you might bother to watch the video first, to actually find out why !!..
Of course you wouldn't find Tommy Cooper at funny at all. You don't have a sense of humour.
What a badly researched piece of garbage.
We're supposed to listen to this stupid-voiced commentary about a great British comedian? Anyone who followed him in those days knows his story.
I didn’t like his humour.
Then your dead . Wake up
😢 Sad 😔 some people clearly have no sense of humor whatsoever !..
@@alancrisp1582 i agree.
I don't think you could make me smile either Jean
I agree. I can think of 20 British Comedians that I finf hilarious and about 6 that I have never smiled at and Tommy joins Johnny Vegas, Jo Brand, and others in that category:)
My aunt was in the audience when he died on stage and when the curtin closed with hi feet sticking out she sead to her husband also a doctor that's not part of the act she was correct as a few minutes later a women came and asked for a doctor , as he was trying to fight for his life behind the Curtain
