As a modder myself, let me just say atmospheric flight is going to be one of the easiest mods to make. It will probably be out day 1 when the creation kit releases. and everyone will be asking why it wasn't in the base game gauranteed.
I don’t think the game is capable of allowing for your ship to be flown around. When the ship lands, you are placed in a generated map with your landing location being at the center. The game is also likely making sure that the landing area is appropriate for landing. Then there’s the issue of simulating the ship navigating the world environment. I think best case, modders create some sort of vehicle that we can hop in to drive or fly around in.
No Man's Sky is procedurally generated and handles this flawlessly when it comes to flying ship in the atmosphere of planets , plus also has ground vehicles. @@quentinreid3111
@@quentinreid3111 hard to say how landing will work. From what I've seen the pirate ships etc that take off and land are done pretty dynamically. Just with predetermined landing spots. Unfortunately we'll have to wait for the creation kit 2.0 to drop to know the exact logistics.
as a modder I can say that it would be a feat like no other in Bethesda modding history, for in game flight in a Bethesda game. not to mention probably illegal. you're either not a modder or only add model and texture assets or scripting with the creation kit. which is a selection of tools modders are allowed, everything else is protected by antitheft software and if it's cracked, any code used is a breach of licensing and commerce agreement, ie: piracy. the engine would have to be almost completely reworked because of how the entire movement system is set up, not only is the in game generation tied to the movement of the player but the player doesn't even really exist as an object that moves or interacts, that's an illusion. it's a camera with a model imposed into frame with a range of movement. the same goes for third person but with an emoting model. only very sophisticated engines like rockstars euphoria or unreal has physics based animation and interactivity, which is limited in use at its best. cars and vehicles have already been attempted in fallout 4, they just don't work. unless you want a crude model of your ship with the movement and speed of a boost pack, cause that's about all I can imagine is possible. no flying straight, no twisting or turning, just holding down the spacebar for bursts of slow upward movement.
The ship customization is less of a "building my dream ship" and more of a "tetris battle to try to not make something ugly af", that and the 300 soft locking bugs... a true bethesda classic.
@TheHolyGopnikCrusader you just spent 2 hours building your ship from nothing? What a shame, there's a piece that's not connected. What piece? Haha enjoy moving every part until you find it.

@holo7070 Yeah I found that out too, but only after suffering a lot. Another thing they don't tell, if you hold E on the pc or A in the controller you can hold objects, you can rotate it with the triggers or the mouse. What they don't tell you is that you can change the axis of the rotation using shift or l3. All the hints on the loading menu is garbage like "the fast loading skill make you load your gun faster". I use it for crashed ship sites all the time since they are basically the same every single time.
Just so you know for future reference, in starship battles you can't travel within the star system you're currently in to escape the battle but you can grav jump to another star system, I assume the logic is that they can logically still follow you within one star system but you could have theoretically grav jumped anywhere so it would be harder

Man we need more gameplay designers that actually know what makes games fun. Sam had some really basic but decent points that would just make the game, fun
I think they tried to do so much with this game that they ruined it, feels like a very unpolished game. Sam made a good point that freeside in New Vegas felt way more alive than any place in this game. It's still a fun game but when I'm done playing I'm not remembering one thing about this game. Like they names one of the enemies in this game (basically bandits from skyrim) spacers....actually the laziest and most uninteresting name ever
They wanted to do a NMS but didn't take any notes from the blunders that game had on launch. Characters and dialogue are a solid improvement over Fallout 4, although that's not a high bar.
it feels like every single stage of development, no matter how small, they tried to put 10% of what they think they needed. Modders should just make their own games at this point. Only thing we'd lose out on is the memeable conference moments of that rat Todd
One mod that already exists that makes "exploring" planted a bit better is one that instead of making you move faster through some means to get to points of interest sooner. It spawns points of interest closer to your landing spot so you don't have to walk that far.
The ship builder needs the ability to compare your currently equipped items to the new ones you want (especially the weapons) side by side, not just red or blue number values

when i started getting good with the shipbuilder was just making ships from the ground up and reading the fine print on all of the item descriptions instead of if it fit the vibe, especially for the interior spaces, just making hella ships piece by piece gets you familiar quick
@YankCast sometimes you just go to a level 40 system to build an outpost and then get harassed and kicked the shit out of by some eclipse mercs because you killed some random exec on a party barge for the crimson fleet a day ago
You can select a hab and cycle left and right to change the type of hab, living quarters/etc. You can't see the interior but you can at least assume a living quarters hab won't look like an oil barge. Also, you can egress from combat if you put power into your grav drive as long as it's not destroyed already, then you're sol.
Actually its a bit more complicated than that. There is different brands of modules for the same thing, but they'll have different things in them. Like one brand's captain's quarters has a chest, bed, and a galley to make food. Then on another brand's captain's quarters, it has a bed, a desk, a table, no chest and no galley. That's what they mean, by letting us see what's inside. I bought several different "storage" module, and there was no "storage" to them. It was just a empty room, no chests or nothing. Even the workshop module's brands have different workstations. It can get a bit frustrating when you have to buy it, build it, and run all the way to your ship, before you can even see it. And just wait until you level up ship building perk, lol.
I'm almost lvl 80 with 90ish hours played, so I'm aware of ship building and the rest of what you said. It's just still pretty easy to choose between "oil barge" and living space is what I meant.

Like if you are on the repair the Eye station and your companion wants to chat and do a quest with you, it'll break them. Hopefully they fix that soon. Lots of people think they lost their whole crew to a glitch, as I was one of them, but luckily, I was able to fix it, without having to restart or load a older file.

It didn't look like you were using it in the clip but if you goto your key bindings, find the jump key and bind a key to the alt binding you'll do a forward boost jump as opposed to a vertical boost jump. Hope this helps
Sam you can just jump out of space battles. Keep a few bars on your grav drive and then hit escape, find a new system and jump. It's part of the game, and they actually talk about it in parts of the dialogue with your team.

If I may. Starfield launched in 1.1.6 or something like that. Very late considering ever single title they've launched has been in 1.0 since before Starfield. They definitely did some polish to it.most annoying aspect is how shloggy the XP gain is
Idea #1 - I had the thought of a second lowerable ramp/platform that would hold a couple of speeder bikes. I've noticed it as well, a number of mechanics that we thought Bethesda fixed already rearing their ugly heads again due to sloppiness. Honestly I think they spent their time updating the engine (it IS much more stable now) but forgot to work on the game itself.

It's also extremely annoying that in the ship builder, it doesn't tell you what comes in the module. Some of them have workbenches and beds, but I have no idea what they are. Also, "storerooms" don't let you store anything. Who thought that was a good idea? ALSO also, any time you change anything about your ship, it stuffs and loose item into your cargo. WHYYYYY?
In battle you can dock to another ship and it stops the combat and lets you wipe the team. The combat resumes when you either steal the other ship or return to yours.
Getting Space Ganked when you travel to a random system can be escaped by quickly grav jumping away, the more power delegated to your jump drive the faster it calculates and blasts you off. So it is possible to escape but my problem is why the game will randomly change your power levels SOMETIMES after jumping. Sometimes it takes all the power from my jump drives, sometimes it randomly takes half my engine power, some times I'll jump out and my weapons are completely down. Also the game makes a point to tell you about space stealth being a thing but I haven't gotten it to work since the 20 second tutorial about it.
Official mod tools will be released sometime next year, don't know what that will entail since they're still trying to find ways to make players pay for them, might be a whole shitty situation where to use their tools you're contracted and lose rights to what you make, and what you even could make with those tools.

I doubt it will happen There usually has to be some form of base to use for that kind of thing, in other games there was a horse to use as a base and such, but for starfield there is no land equivalent for any kind of mount, on top of that, the performance would be abysmal, most of the reason it does not already have such a system, is due to the performance cost of procedural generation and impact on the pc for it, if you were to increase the players move speed substantially it would exponentially increase the performance load on the pc. Not to mention consoles at all, but even respectable $5k or more gaming rigs would start to struggle.
there is nothing to actually explore along the way, old bethesda games at least had environmental storytelling during that 7 minute walk to the next quest.
You can already talk to enemy ships to try to get them to stop attacking you. You target them and hold the "Hail" button, or you can grav drive out of systems as well, just pick another planet and power your grav drive.
This is by far the most infuriating part. We know these games have limited dev budget and time, just say “ yea, not having surface vehicles was a big miss but we don’t have infinite budget.” Instead, Todd said something like “you have your boost pack and we wanted to to ‘explore’, so we left vehicles out so you could have a better experience”

You don't have to scan animals, you can just kill them and it'll auto scan it. Hell, even if a companion kills it it'll be scanned. As long as you just shoot any animal you see while on a planet you'll get that survey data really quickly.
You’ve got to improve zoology. It’s like playing a stealth character without playing stealth; the explorer is a play style. I personally don’t feel like it’s a great decision design but that’s still how you’re supposed to do it.
Improve your skill tree.

As a modder myself, let me just say atmospheric flight is going to be one of the easiest mods to make. It will probably be out day 1 when the creation kit releases. and everyone will be asking why it wasn't in the base game gauranteed.
Ok but what about landing. That might be what stops it from working
A game as wide as the ocean but as deep as a puddle. All we need is the tools to dig and modify the land to our liking.

I know the local map doesn't let you fast travel to undiscovered places but if you exit tab once back to the planet map and click the site you want to go to, it will still transport you to that place on the planet.

I'm hoping it's possible for a Sims settlement type of mod to be made as I suck at planning and placing stuff in a free-build environment. Though with how outposts work, it might not be possible.

"I can't jump away from these space fights," says man with no power in his grav drive.

There usually has to be some form of base to use for that kind of thing, in other games there was a horse to use as a base and such, but for starfield there is no land equivalent for any kind of mount, on top of that, the performance would be abysmal, most of the reason it does not already have such a system, is due to the performance cost of procedural generation and impact on the pc for it, if you were to increase the players move speed substantially it would exponentially increase the performance load on the pc.
Not to mention consoles at all, but even respectable $5k or more gaming rigs would start to struggle.
