The love bug tv series 1982 comedy Dean Jones as Jim Douglas is return with Herbie 53 vw again in the tv series. After the Dean Jones as Jim Douglas in the Herbie goes to monte carlo in 1977.
My parents took us on a summer holiday in the south of France, August 1976. I was 9 years old. We happened to be in Monte Carlo while they were filming the race scenes around the famous hair-pin corner. We were standing on top of the hill as herbie came round the corner. As a 9 year old, my illusion was shattered because we saw about 5 or 6 Herbie Beetles being used, most were back-up cars. Unforgettable memories.
That’s the face of a humble champion about to break the laws of physics itself just to help his friends win the race…all while having a bit of fun!!! (O\5|3/O)
I know it doesn't make the least bit of sense, but when Herbie went upside down, I can still remember how my heart and senses were tickled pink when I first saw this at the age of 6.
I think it was more like 4 times around Loes hairpin (whatever it's called in 2021) shot from different angles! Then through a different tunnel. By 1977 F1 was using a new tunnel under a hotel
Loews, Grand Hotel, Fairmont.. It will always be the "Herbie Hairpin" to me. As "campy" and a fantasy of a movie as it was, always captured the spirit of racing better than most modern racing movies.
Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, stands head and shoulders next to The Love Bug as the best two films in the series. Herbie was always meant to be a race car and i wish all the films were like that. Films 2 and 4 i.e. Rides Again and Goes Bananas were the adventure detours perhaps. Love Bug and Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo were the films that suited the character of Herbie the best however!
Well I think Herbie rides again was made to evolve Herbie's personality all we saw in the first movie was Herbie's emotions (a hint to a personality trait of Herbie) but even in the first movie we really didn't know if Herbie just raced because he liked Jim or if he liked racing the second movie tells us that Herbie likes racing in the flashback (I don't think they ever mentioned in the love bug if Herbie likes racing) and that Herbie likes to take care of others every movie trys to evolve Herbie's personality (the bananas title means that Herbie has gone crazy) but remember in 1972/74 the audience didn't know that much about Herbie's personality so that's what I think anyway
@@Mr.Derogatory316 It's not really reusing sound effects per say since they modified the beetle with a Porsche engine giving it that distinct iconic sound that you hear Herbie have in the films.
I remember watching this movie all the time when I was young. Now that I know a lot about motorsport and Monaco itself, this portion of the movie "Bugs" me a lot lol because the sequence of corners is very jarring knowing the real layout of the track, but I still love it.
I like how the one of the french guys who used to bully jim and herbie during qualifying doesnt bat an eye when his colleague passes him on the curve but cheers herbie on😂
@@agoo7581 Ah, it's possible. i kinda assumed he was cheering him on as a token of newfound respect for herbie. the music during even has that encouraging sort of energy. disney has always been pretty good about matching the music to mood and context haha
Never knew John Jacob Astor changed his name into Bruno von Strickle, after he died on Titanic. ,,Are you of the Boston Dawsons?" ,,No, the Chippewa Falls actually" ,,Oh yes"
Kinda wished that they made Herbie do the; "loop-the-loop" in beating Bruno Von Stickle's number 17 in the tunnel. Instead of him taking a page out from 'Spider-Man' on the tunnel ceiling. One can simply fan edit; 2:22 with the end sequence where he comes down at 2:46. But also have Bruno looking up briefly at: 2:43 shoved inbetween maybe (antagonist seeing his upcoming defeat). Then have Herbie come down and beat him via a quick "loop-the-loop" move rather than the Spider-Man style wall-sticking! Would've kept the pace and sped things up a little moreso i think!
I like Jim Douglas say Bruno never come back and Herbie beep and hand upside down and finish line Jim say I don't believe it and wheely and Jim cheer and Bruno say swine mean pig.
Dean Jones as Jim Douglas in 1982 in The Love Bug tv series in season 1 in 1982. Jim Douglas was return with the Herbie vw 53 again. Herbie goes to monte carlo 1977 Claude was cheering for the herbie vw 54 Jim Douglas and Wheely Applegate.
I mean... Why ya’ll are complaining about the tunnel part being unrealistic. With the levels of grip and downforce of 0:43 Herbie could easily stick to a road in the moon
Maybe he was starting to despise Bruno during the end. And he probably realized that since he knew that he was not going to be able to finish the race, he preferred to see Herbie win instead of Bruno. Whatever the reason it is clear that Herbie earned his respect.
Must have been a hoot to have happened upon the filming of this if you were holidaying in Monaco in the summer of 1976! Fyi the tunnel scene and entrances were filmed on the Angeles Crest highways in California... those sneaky old film makers 😂😉
I wish disney make another herbie returns to Monte Carlo same way they did in this Monte carlo same format no cgi keep it real as it can be extend the race time
Bruno would later leave racing traumatized by what had happened to him. He would flee to Genoa City, Wisconsin, change his name to ‘Victor Newman’, hook up with a stripper named Nikki, father 4 children with 3 different women, and become a corporate raider all while trying to erase the memory of being beaten by a Volkswagen bug.
i think Bruno expected Ricky Bobby and that's why nobody talks about him after he lost to a vw beetle with a porsche motor and a pair of anti gravity tires that can stick to the walls and tunnel ceiling
Shame that Herbie's Theme was barely used in this one. When it was, it was pretty weak. His theme is a huge part of the other films, much like the Jaws theme is to those films. Very important. Oh well.
Dean Jones will be sadly missed by millions of fans who are always there to support him
Brightest smile of all the classic disney actors hands down!
Yeah roddy
Died day before my 30th. Growing up with the Herbie films, it was like losing a friend. Odd feeling.

That engine sounds amazing in turns lol
Probably that Porsche engine they fitted Herbie with
Never piss off that innocent looking bug!! That beeb beep of the horn and squeal of the tyres, that little guy is off!!! Go Herbie!!!!!!
Herbie: ~Trolls Gravity~
Gravity: "Am I a Joke to you?"
Beep Beep!!
@@ViperJay5 I Guess that's a yes then.
Herbie himself is an entire troll to physics haha
Gravity is no longer a thing apparently
2:20 Herbie looks so cute in that close up shot as he beep beeps. But then, Herbie looks cute full stop.
YES💝

Same here and you described it perfectly! That's really what it felt like to me too!
LOL they go twice around the hairpin, and then down MIrabeu and then the hairpin again... as an F1 fan it bugs me a bit
I suppose it would bug you, seeing as Herbie *is* a love bug
They went three time around the hairpin
And the 917 is a vw kit car.........
I think it was more like 4 times around Loes hairpin (whatever it's called in 2021) shot from different angles! Then through a different tunnel. By 1977 F1 was using a new tunnel under a hotel

From 1:16 to 1:50 or so. They are driving the Lowes Hairpin 4 or 5 times xD. A F1 Fan knows Everything xD
Yeah, and they pass the hairpin and then go through mirabeau and the hairpin again... And the tunnel is miles long according to the scene lol
And the tunnel is quite too long
That's Monaco
Still brings a tear to my eye.

The sound of that engine.
Yeah, sounds lovely, doesn't it?

At 2:22 at the tunnel, that’s one of Herbie’s most incredible stunt to win a race.
Awesome.
Man did he need momentum to achieve that… 😮
i love the (unfortunately overdubbed) engine noises! that 917 sounds absolutely BRUTAL!
That 917 was a kit car with a v8 engine
Still a fun movie. I just now watched it for the first time in many years. Got it from our local public library system!
Herbie had had enough so he decided, if I can't drive around him I'll just drive over him. Screw physics Im Herbie!!
Herbie is showing the F1 cars how to overtake in Monaco

Sneakingly adding those side ramps (that are nowhere to be seen in the rear projection footage). ;)
Great movie, saw it at the cinema back in the day.
The hairpin of the Grand Prix circuit!
You can’t beat Herbie... EVEN IN A FERRARI
