Make Magnetic Compass with Needle

Everyday needle can be put to good use by converting it to the magnetic compass. Six ferrite magnets are used to magnetize the needle. Pole with which needle is stroked decides the pole of the needle.
Do try this at home.

Does this method magnetize the pin forever?

Not forever. Needle retains magnetism for a very long time. - Year or so. It may loose after that. This may be due to the material it is made up of. Iron nails will not retain that long. That is what I have observed. I need to test this out with few other things as well for larger amount of time though !

the magnet magnetizes the needle and the needle aligns itself with the earths magneticc field

@@yoriichi3347 Why remove the magnetize? just use that needle as a compass part from now on. but şf you really need it to demangetize it. I dunno, but there are basic tools online they use to magnetize and demagnetize screwdrivers, just google it

Yes. That is also an option. But you have to be very careful while placing the needle . It is very difficult to rotate it once you put it. So I thought of using bottle cap instead. You can attach more needles which are magnetized differently and explore combined effect as well !
