There you will find Bamboo saxes, exotic wood saxes made with Cocobolo and the new All-Terrain Sax. This recording was tweaked to hear the saxes with a bit of reverb.
The RUclips video called The Bamboo sax...without reverb would give you a feel for their sound without it. Seen at • The Bamboo Sax.... Wit...

Erik, you are an excellent example of what I believe is the ultimate modern man; you found something you're passionate about, and you took it to the next level. Additionally, it's good that you don't seem to take yourself too seriously either, which is a mistake I think many of us craftsmen & artists make all too often. And WOW...that yard looks like a slice of heaven. Bamboo is such awesome plant, and I'm glad I'm obviously not alone in thinking so! ~Best Regards & Well Wishes from Cape Cod, Massachusetts =)
I have one critique of your videos (and of most other videos that demo musical instruments). It is ok to demo them with reverb, but one also needs to hear them dry. It is somewhat misleading to have a deep reverb in the middle of a bamboo grove.
_That said, I am a great fan of yours._ I love my tenor All-Terrain Sax, and, if you had a video of a side-by-side comparison of the AT and the bamboo models (both dry and with reverb), I could be tempted to buy a bamboo sax also.
We add reverb to our recordings. And videos. Gives a fuller voice. i guess my next sax video will be with out any make up to appease the reverb police.
Erik
I like how the reverb kicks in as soon as he plays :) Sounds great.. I want one!
Love the sax & the beautiful sound I am very inspired thanks Erik 😊👍
Hi Justin: You are our best customer south of the Equator! Thank you so much. You have been a personal encouragement to me. As I am reminded these flutes are played and enjoyed all around the world. Thanks for shopping at www.Eriktheflutemaker.com
Congratulations Erik, very good tutorial
I have one of his Starry nights Penny Whistles and it sounds and looks great. We played it with reverb and also naturally. Its plays just as he described it on his website. He also return my phone calls ASAP and answered all of our questions about flutes. He's very genuine and he makes excellent flutes. This guy puts his heart and soul into his instruments. I'm planning on getting one of the Barri sax models soon
We saw your tool and were amazed by the sound of it, thank God for your talent, I'd like to buy your instrument, I live in Kazakhstan.
i like this a lot and i don't even play anymore, nor remember how! you are such a delight to watch!
"The bigger the flute the deeper the toot!" 02:53
Shakespeare
That's what she said lol 👍.
Nice sound. It has a slight nasal sound like a clarinet yet soft like a flute with a sax overtone. Unique. I'm sold.
On the spot. the recordings from my cds are evident. The production team did add some reverb to my sax playing.
my kid and I are craking up at the ending. just bought one from St Augustine FL. cant wait to start playing
Hello, my shop is in Davie Florida. I have been growing a bamboo plantation in my backyard for over 18 years now.
LOL ! Luv the passion and sharing and walking right into the pool at the end playing and doing the back float. Thats the funnest learning I have ever had, Bravo!
I just love the idea of an instrument created from nature that can produce such beautiful sounds. Eric makes the best flutes. when will you create a soprano versions?...
...and then a _sopranino_ sax!
wow what an incredible sound
Thanks Erik for your light hearted tutorial....
Nice ending in the pool. It seems that you have found your place in this crazy world. Congratulations!
This is very interesting, the way you behave for the camera is very refreshing.
thank you :)
Bamboo flute makers are a rare wonderful breed!
Sax makers that have been around for a long time, at least since the 80's like Brian with the "xaphoon.com", Erik the flute maker, and Nicholas with his "bushsax.com" from australia are all the original pioneers in their successful hybrid reed flutes.
Thanks guys for creating such great soulful new musical instruments!
Between these 3 designers a 6 year old to an 93 year old , can learn and play a reed easily.
These guys create musicians & soul!
@DavesTrumpet
I use Mineral oil and you can oil it outside often and inside 2-4 times a year.
Erik
Brilliant. I want one of those!
It's really good to see you on the internet. I remember you from TRF. I was Merlin the Magician there for 26 years! I still have the Xaphoon I purchased from you years ago!
Hi Bill. Nice to hear from you. I am sure you might need a new reed. I recommend a tenor 1 1/2 on all my bamboo saxes. Regards, Erik
Erik The Flutemaker
That's good to know! BTW, I recently purchased a completely restored C Melody sax. The first sax I ever played was one of these. It's in amazing condition. I wish my dog liked it as much as I do! Take care, Bill
I recommend the tenor 1 1/2 reed. others do too. Both saxes were concert tuned.
Oh man the sounds are pretty and full so full
a bamboo sax? That's incredible! Great sound!
I just ordered the Alto and I can't wait to have it to play. Your awesome thank you for what you do. :)
wow that is an incredible instrument
Blew my mind how amazing and beautiful this was to see and hear.
very information, lovely tone and a good sense of humour
hi Erik, i'm from brazil, and a love your song, your instruments, God bless you
Hey! I think I have one of this guy's flutes I bought from the Ren Faire like 15 years ago!
love watching your video's they always make me smile
I have Erik’s bamboo flute and it’s great.
Awsome! I like the way you play all of the flutes, missing you at Doral Vineyard Church, see you soon brother. This is Ruben fron the sound booth.
Your music is just simply BEAUTIFUL! I'd LOVE to hear much MORE!
we produced 5 cds now available on Amazon and I tunes I believe
an amazing, haunting sound.incredible!
That was awesome! love the blues sound..so creative. I really enjoyed watching your video..good luck to you.
wow great sound, have always loved sax, don't hear enough of it in todays music
Aw, my Gosh! You are great!!! It is so much fun listening to you!!! thank you :)
My bamboo sax will play in major, minor, and pentatonic. you can bend notes and get the growl of a sax. The big limitation is one octave. Even still they are lots of fun. The brilliant invention of Adolf Sax is that it can give I think 3 octaves. My hat off to him. Regards, erik
You have a great sense of humor too! Love this video and your playing. Great version of Color Me Brazil. I'll get it on Amazon! Thanks!
Erik is the coolest guy in the world!
I'll soon order a bunch of flutes and a sax
Think I'll go for an arab flute, a japanese, the medium sax and a regular flute
May you live forever Erik
Yes. i have a few left in our sax bin, as we are presently not making them.
Erik
beautiful sound it makes
Hi Erik, will the dark and carved bamboo sax be available any time soon?
I am offering just the natural at present. Thanks for asking.
Wow Eric it's só Wonderfull
Simply wonderfull
Beautiful work!!!
This is fascinating. I'm a NAF maker but I'd love to own an authentic Erik in this area! I just need to catch up financially, first, after setting up to bore single staves for whistle flutes. I love your A-Z bamboo models and the all terrain, as well.
The most awesome garden sir.
I love your clip brother it sound great and pure
Man, Erik. you are awesome!! I have never heard of a bamboo sax.
how amaising can you get.well done man
Congratulations on creating this wonderful instrument and simplifying a musical instrument so desired by many. I hope that soon i can acquire a sax that you make a big hug!!! *🤗/🇧🇷
Thank you Kent, actually it was Zacciah Blackburn who takes the credit for the bamboo sax. My hat off to him. It is a wonderful instrument. I got to make flutes in Brazil back in the early 70's. Take care, Erik
You are too modest. you are absolutely amazing!!! Do you have albums out????
Blessed that I got to see this. Will probably be buying one soon.
I'm a former sax player(alto & tenor) and this is really cool. I never knew you could make a sax out of bamboo.
What do u think about Bamboos can take an active role on the stages ?
Verrrryyyyyy nice. Congrats!
you have a beautiful home! great instruments very interested in them
I've come to be fond of your workmanship sir, in about a week or so, I'm looking to purchase either the alto or tenor. But I'm not too certain of which. I would like a jazzy sound, but would also like to venture into different genres. I also crave a soulful sound. Also I'm not as experienced with b flat but would love to try! Do you think the alto would be a versatile option for me?
By the way I really am grateful of your work in music ministry! I've been to do the same not too long ago.!
The Alto is very hand span friendly. For one with a small to medium hand. the tenor is comfortable with a larger hand. both are really nice. Regards, Erik
To hear the bamboo sax without reverb one can visit, The Bamboo Sax Without The Reverb. At ruclips.net/video/4mgM9LtbZqU/видео.html
Erik The Flutemaker
My lowest one right now is my Tenor in G. We had to simplify and the best sounding saxes remain in the company. No more Baritones and Basses. I still make the Soprano, Alto and Tenor. Regards, Erik
Como faço para adquirir um sax desses
I live in an apartment building. As a kid i played the tenor sax, so i know how loud the mouth piece by itself can be. How do I mute this thing, so that i can hear it and others can barely hear it. I dont want to purchase it and then be unable to play it because of fears of disturbing the neighbors
Hahaha..... the ending was great! Kind of begs the question, what effect does too much moisture have on bamboo? For example the bamboo sax. Should the bore be oiled or swabbed or anything? Just curious. Thanks! Awesome video!
simply from nature! i am so happy to see this video! he is happy music!
You have a natural talent for television.
Fantastic sound. I'm shocked, but in a delighted way. Excellent, mister!
I love you Erik, thank you, God Bless you!!!
The acoustics are amazing!!!
He added reverb in the editing process.
Excellent. Congrat's!
Sound great.
Want one.
It sounds great ! Erik, I need one !
thank you, yes i have a couple cds still available for purchase on my website
simply awesome. gotta show my pop this.
And how does it sound without reverb ?
Been making bamboo saxes since 1988, bamboo flutes since 1970. my dad was a film editor and an insurance adjuster. Regards, Erik
So cool! Love your videos!
You're awesome! Very amusing.
Thanks for your warm greeting from italy. Nice to reconnect. blessings, Erik the flutemaker
Great sound.
Lovely! Great tips for an amazingly expressive little instrument. Thanks! :)
Awesome on everything!
essa foi boa !!
sou amante do saxofone , como eu poderia tem um Bamboo Sax, estou em portugal no momento ,sera que voce tem alguma loja aqui ?
amo instrumento de sopro.
very good !!!
the reverb sounds cool. it would be nice to hear the natural sound untouched. people who may want to buy one from you might like to know this.
It is very sweet song. Where did the Bamboo Sax buy?????
I don't think that's technically Alto, since it's not Eb. I may be wrong, but I believe it's actually Bb because when the open note was played, it was concert B natural like a tenor sax. but I do understand the naming is based on the mouth piece used
Hi Melody: I am using an alto sax mouth piece on both my alto and tenor. My alto sounds like an alto, my tenor sounds like a tenor. Thats how I gave them their name. Regards, Erik
Erik The Flutemaker Thank you for clarifying! I didn't realize you used an Alto mouth piece for both, though I notice now that you said it in beginning of the video
Sound is amazing, what would be the cost
Nice saxophones do you use a alto and a tenor mouthpieces for the saxes?
Also i would like to know if it's possible to make a soprano bamboo sax
thanks
Super nice presentation! Could you over low to second octave? Like the birbynė instrument does. Cuz they look quite similar!
This is a one octave instrument. Wish it was two! Regards, Erik
Erik The Flutemaker thanks Eric, good luck and playing!
Awesome!!!! Love the sound!
QUESTION: You mention that you should NOT touch the "hairs" on the bamboo plant.
May I ask why???? are they poisonous?
I am currently working on your flute order :) I will make sure its a good one for you. Enjoy the book! Erik
I bought this bamboo sax.(alto) I can play almost all other flutes, western, eastern. But I cannot play the bamboo sax. I regret that I bought it. I think I got some low quality version with quite big Bamboo trunk, you cannot keep the air it's ecaping...
Or only concert version are really palyable. That's what I think for this moment.
You my friend.. are awesome!
Neat! Though, with a cylindrical bore, aren't they more akin to clarinets?
Great demo man, love it all!
you sir are a cool cat maaaaan! that is an awesome sounding instrument. :)
thats so cool i love it sounds nice
Thank you Erik the flutemaker
I want to know if I have never ever played an instrument, can I learn this at 57. I love it ..
I'm a percussionist myself and I am always looking for innovations in musical instruments. You're awesome! And I really want to get one of your altos. I have shown promise on reed instruments and I'd love to practice one of these.
