I think highly of you and your knowledge and experience with plants, so please don’t talk down on your opinion and what you have to say. You’re awesome, keep up the good work!
Most of these are plants you've just gotten tired of, not necessarily regret buying. But that's totally okay too :) Always appreciate your videos. Congrats on your new baby!
Spikey plant idea - I keep some of my favorites in a fake decorative birdcage so they can be lower and get better light but they are inaccessible by my cats. I don't have kiddos so they could probably still stick their fingers in. It's a pain when it comes time to water, but thankfully they don't need it often.
i inherited a large, root bound peace lily from my grandmother and immediately untangled the miles for roots and broke into 2 plants… they are just now looking happy again and that was almost 4 months ago! such babies 🙄
I had the same problem with my peace Lily getting too big. What I did was I went in and divided the peace Lily up and took my top three or four sections and potted those up and then gifted or sold the rest of the little babies. I ended up with a much more manageable size plant.
I think Orchids get a bad rep pretty often. I see them being referred to as grandma plants in the plant groups I'm in (which is true for me as well, my grandma always had them and it's the reason I got into them). But there's so many interesting species with lots of different colors and flower shapes. I love mounting them to pieces of wood and getting them to bloom is so rewarding to me. I wish everyone could get the same gratification out of them!
Have you tried keiki paste on your obliqua nodes? I wonder if it would encourage them to grow a baby plant instead of a runner. It works on other aroids, but I don't have an obliqua to test it out on.
“Don’t hate me if I talk about your favorite plant” 😂 😭 You’ve helped me resurrect a graveyard of plants I killed last summer, and I’m sure those babies are grateful for it. I LOVE your channel. Also saw your coffin planter from a year ago and Its been added to my list of things to make! Best wishes for your family and your little nugget on the way! 💕
Girl...I feel ya. I'm sensitive to smells. You are not alone. Lavender busts my head open. I love that you are being real. This is one way that we can learn from each other. Someone may be able to share awesome ideas that will help so many plant parents. I just love watching you! You look so stunningly beautiful BTW. Your glowing. ❤
maybe the obliqua nodes keep growing runners because they are trying to look for a place with more nutrients? my adansonii kept growing leafless nodes when i forgot to fertilize them and when i did, it regrew them immediately! i heard this can also happen from lack of humidity but since your nodes are on sphagnum already, maybe its more on the nutrients side
Have you thought about splitting up your peace lily into two plants? I had the same problem with my Philo burle marx, I couldn't find a pot big enough so I just separated it into two 10" pots.
4:59 I hear a lot of people say succulents barely grow or don't change much but mine grow super quickly! Especially in summer it's cool to see them change to vibrant colors and blooms. Plus there are so many cool succulents that people don't even know exist, collecting them never gets boring.
Hoya bloom hack - lower light! I found my Hoyas bloom constantly in my grow tent or west/south window but once in an east/north window, they barely ever bloom. Only thing Ive found to keep my smelly lacunosa from driving me nuts.
I get bored with slow growing plants too. I try to balance it out with owning fast growing plants. The slow growing plants get shoved to the back and forgotten about haha then it feels exciting when I occasionally check their growth
I feel you on the BOP. I want to love the three I have. It’s amazing how often I’ve heard how easy BOP are to grow. I’ve struggled and feel like it’s not worth my level of expectations
The only thing I regret is purchasing a calathea before I understood how to take care of them because it died within 2 weeks, and also purchasing a pack of baby lithops instead of just getting well established ones because those also didn't make it. BUT, even with the list of plants that I didn't do well with and they died or I gave them away, I still love having gotten to learn from it all, so it's hard to say that it's a true regret. Thanks for sharing your opinions, I love to hear stuff like this and see if I feel the same or not :)
I love lithops, but there's alot you need to know about them before taking them on. I hope you give them another try sometime! I pot mine in straight pumice, they only get some water when they start to wrinkle and never when they begin to loose their set of leaves for the season. Their also cool season growers and go dormant around mid summer which means no water!
I feel the guilt in your voice and your face as you explain why you don’t love the plants as much 😌 it shows you care about the impact on their self esteem 😆
Honestly I regret buying string of hearts all the time… they grow super long in the summer just to die in the winter bc of lack of light… then of course if they get pests, you’ve got no chance since it’s impossible to handle or turn over the leaves without 87.7% of them falling off 😭
Such a good video! It’s so normal and ok to regret/change your plants depending on life circumstances and what you can currently deal with. Thinking of you and praying for you today! 🤗🤗❤️❤️
I don't have experience with obliqua, I would love to be able to get my hands on one some day. But something you can try as an experiment is putting " crazy keiki cloning paste " its used for orchids to push out keikis but in tropical plants and other plants in general it pushes new growth from nodes as well. So my assumption is maybe with the extra nutrients and whatnot they might get bigger growth instead of the issue your having? Who knows but worth a try
@@gabrielpatten6939 that's quite possible. I mean think about it, larger fenenstraitions probably have something to do with himudity. Maybe cuz naturally they would dry out easier with leaves like that so they probably do require Ron's of humidity to be happy
I understand the issue with peace lilies. My toddler would not eat green vegetables but was quite happy to taste test the philodendrons. I had to put everything green in a pot up high and it was quite challenging. He's 36 years old now and seems to have survived, but I didn't have peace lilies till he outgrew the urge to snack on my house plants.
Hoya tip, put one of those mesh baggies around the blooms. It’ll collect the sap and let it air dry (And you can eat them!) and then you can dump the little baggie into the compost and use it for he next one
I would LOVE to have one in my collection but from what I hear, growing it out of a node can be tricky..so It’d be awesome to know as much as I possibly can before I put my money down for it… 😍😍😍
Strelitzia can definitly be re-balanced. Repot and turn the rootball, then refill the soil back around it. But its definitly a two person job since they are so big. And orchids can be fun! They are epiphytes so you can tie them to a piece of wood and hang it anywhere, the roots will attatch themselves like they do on trees in nature. Or let it be the table centerpiece on a cool aquarium root. They store water inside the roots so the wood and roots need to be submersed in water 30 minutes a week then allowed to drip dry. Or let them live in a pretty glass jar and watch the roots adhere themselves to the glass, and they are so pretty when newly watered and they are bright green and full of water. Or maybe a glass sphere that can hang somewhere. When you have the orchids placed high up and then you get the flowers cascading down... so pretty
I have the Peace Lily sensation, mine is in a cooler hallway and the only light comes through an east facing front door. Mine stands to the side of the door in a self watering pot and it loves it there. I think they prefer a lower light situation. I think yours would be happy where it is. My regret purchases have been my Crassula species plants as I have been left with 4 plants from 18 bought. They just got decimated by something that caused their leaves to go black and then cause the plants to collapse. It wasn't overwatering as they were only watered every 3-4 weeks. I will just keep to the Ovata varieties as they're more reliable.
That is a totally normal way every collector goes by. Believe or not, 5 years ago I had about 300 varieties of African violets. Now I have only 50 of the most favorites.
@@katrinav.8503 There are ten thousand registered hybrids and a few hundreds are pending registration. You can check the prices on ebay. Sometimes old hybrids are trendy again and the price will go up to the sky. I remember 3 years ago one leaf of "Ann" for propagation was sold for $202 and 40 cents. Actually you can look at Violet Barn for other plants too. They always have nice begonias and hoyas.
Thank you for explaining why you regret because I've been wanting to get a bird of paradise and peace lily but I haven't because my apartment is so small with limited lighting. After watching this video I don't feel the need to get them anymore. 😁
Its so funny with your peace Lily how the back is so little since it lives in the corner because my bamboo did the same. For some reason I didn't expect it and it grew and grew and one day I saw the back. So naked! 😂
Oh boy, I understand. I've felt the same with my orchids. 25+ . They take an entire shelf system and then some! To mix it up I put all but 4 on a 5ft moss pole and hung it from the ceiling. The sherry baby and a few others that grow similar to SB I left in orchid pots. They are way to big to fix to the pole anyway. Cactus and succulents!!! Omgoodness. Like 50++😳😬 🥴. I put them all on 3 10 ft wall shelves. Well most of them. They really looks nice and opened up a lot of space. We've had the Orchids and cactus a very long time. They needed a new way to be displayed. The orchid moss pole is really doing well. Thanks for your video. Rest up baby, #2 is going to be quite the adventure . Happy for you n Ryan💞🪴🌱 🌵
I love your content Harli, and your beautiful personality. Keep doing what you're doing! I can't wait til your shop is open so I can support all of your hard work!!
i’ve heard that hoyas bloom seasonally and basically it happens when they get more water after the dry season. people trying to induce blooms would want to simulate a dry season and then water more heavily after a bit, so maybe if you want to stop them blooming you should water more consistently and just keep them more hydrated! i’ve also found in my own experience that my hoyas tend to bloom when i water them after forgetting to water for a long time, so i think there’s some truth to it. good luck!
Yes to the BOP! I bought a tiny baby one last year and now it’s taller than me!!! And it does lean everywhere even in a large Southern window. I need to get it out of my house before I CAN’T get it out of my house.
I'm in the same boat with my Hoya's! I had them outside all summer so the blooms didn't bug me. Now, I had to bring them inside and they won't stop blooming!! Plus, they're huge now! They grew like weeds outside. They're blocking all the light in the window...
I’m in the same kid/pet boat when it comes to cacti! My hubby and I say when the kids grow up we will collect again 🌵🥰 but I also want to rescue senior dogs 🤷♀️
For Hoya sap, I wipe some cold water onto the area (or preferably I dip the area into cold water) and it seems to stop the secretion. Yuck, hate that word, haha.
bird of paradice grow outdoors in direct sun in my country, hot bright sun. They r everywhere side of the road, gardens outside😅. Good info bout the hoyas i was thinking of gettting them but after knowing how the flowers r... 2nd thoughts on it lol.
Best wishes to you Harli on the birth and recovery, so exciting! I am beyond appreciative that you’ve been doing videos so late in your pregnancy. I was 40 weeks and 6 days before I had my second child, it’s not easy but you make it look so! 🥰
If you should ever decide to try tricolor alaglonema pictim again, I have experienced great success growing it in pon. When I ordered it, it had three small leaves. After about a year I may need to transplant it because it has basically outgrown its pot. I also use stress relief for aquatic pets and plants in my water when watering.
True. I got an Aloe from a friend and and it tried to get bigger than our dog. I had a hard time watering it.. couldn't get so close. They are fascinating however, if you have a good location for a beastie.
Hi Harli, I know it'll take awhile for you to get to this. But my question is how do you use hydrogen peroxide? Do you pour it in water or just pour it on strate? Thanks!!
If you ever decide to get rid of your burt it's absolutely one of my favorites and it looks like you have the dark flowers too(I think mine will have lighter blooms but still waiting), I might have something cool to trade! Or just buy but I'm sure it'd be easy to sell if you take that route. Totally understand the blooms making you nauseous, everything made me so SICK. Even just visually seeing things would make me sick. Thank goodness for the anti nauseous medications, those honestly did so much for me.
Take that BOP outside in the summer, I have a 30 y/o plus BOP that was touching my ceiling, take it out all summer and all the new leaves are much more manageable height and standing straight! Make sure to cut the older leaves as new ones come in! 💚
Is that a different variant of sensation ? Mine aren't bushy just single plants but humongous. I did hear that there's two or three variants of sensation 🤷🏻
The hoyas: just keep them in slightly lower light than you normally would :) They will stay green and lsh but will not bloom anymore and not grow as much. All the best from Germany!
I understand what you are feeling with the Hoya. I recently had my lacunosa bloom and it won't stop. I'm really allergic to the flowers on the lacunosa, so I've had to cut the flowers off, not the peduncle just the flowers. It's the same allergic reaction I get to lily flowers in bouquets. So far all of my Hoya that have bloomed do not smell good to me, but I love hoya foliage so much.
Thank you for sharing! I just bought some hoya and bird of paradise. I'm learning what is best for my house so that makes sense why you picked these plants.
hi! when youre pregnant youre extra sensitive to smells, i personally stopped being able to tolerate the smell of dogs 😬 so it could hopefully just be a pregnancy thing!
I hope you see this message. At exactly 12:49, between the middle 2 protruding parts of the top side of the leaf, there is a tiny length of silk. I'm super observant when it comes to spider mites so I wanted to warn you. It could just be a spider passed by but it is so fine and definitely could be spider mite. I presume the plant is kept really humid so they wouldn't do so well on it but it's probably worth a check. Good luck. 🥰
God I feel you on the obliqua nodes.. I bought two for 120 each. One of them rotted in my prop box and the other one sent out a long steak of nodes before quickly dying when I tried to switch it to my soil mixture. Would've loved to have a beautiful Obliqua growing in my house but I won't spend money on that gamble anymore and I don't have the money for a pre-established plant, rip :(
I completely agree with you about the hoyas. I am newly pregnant and have over 200 hoyas in my house. My least favourite hoya bloom, Hoya thomsonii is currently blooming and I hate hate hate it! I have a huge plant and I'm tempted to sell it just because of the scented blooms. But then I might regret it once I'm not pregnant anymore. We shall see!😌
I'm regretting some of mine but just because I'm a little overwhelmed right now...So I'm give some plants to friends! P.S..I have always wanted a Cocker Spaniel and seeing your cutie made me finally take the plung!! I got my girl 3 weeks ago😍
Peace Lilly is easy to divide. Keep the small one and share the rest. From the looks of your plant, it can be divided at least 5 times or more. I'll take some hoya and PL if you want to trade. I have red stem pilea and pepperomia for baskets and other stuff. Let me know if interested. Good luck 🤞
I do agree peace lily is a fussy plant, I ended up passing mine along. Cactuses and kids don’t mix. My 2yrs old likes to grad and touch them all the time, also giving them adequate lighting is challenging. I have grow lights for my small collection.
Tip on your sensation peacelilly, cut the leaves off until you have 12-20 the leaves get bigger that way and not the whole plant! def buy grow lights that are high! Like in your ceiling fans. most of your issues deal with low light and FULL spectrum grow bulbs would fix it!
Speedy, healthy delivery! Enjoy the new baby❤👶🤗❤ yes I have a few plants I'm not feeling lately, so I'll probably give them away to someone who will love them...
Let your cacti live outside during the summer. Bring them in when it gets cold and keep them dry. They will basically go dormant until you put them out again in the spring. Anyway it's what I do with mine.
Harli, basically like myself you are in a different phase of your life. I have grown 99% of the plants you have showcased on your channel, the majority of them before I became a parent during my single years. Later raising kids and my career became my priority and my gardening moved outdoors, now as a disabled senior I’m more focused on terrariums and aquatic gardening as I said different phases of life, growing healthy children is a full time endeavor. Congratulations on the new baby.
I feel like you have to love the foliage of orchids as well as the blooms to keep them in a mixed houseplant collection. I am avoiding certain kinds of orchids even though I like the blooms because I know I will be annoyed with them the rest of the time. Bird of Paradise is so huge for an indoor plant! Really understand that one!
I have a lot of orchids, and some are constantly bloom, a lot depends on the orchid. Some I really like the plant itself, like ornithocephalus gladiatus and acianthera pectinata. I don't think influencers have delved very deep into orchids, just grabbed one from IKEA and said "oooh orchid", and are really missing out on how diverse they are.
@@notverynotoriousg5674 funnily enough my prettiest foliage is actually my steadiest bloomer - paph. Wardii. Great leaf patterns and an unique flower. On the other hand I adore Cattleya blooms but dislike the look of them when not in bloom enough that I don’t have any in my collection right now. It really does depend on the orchid!
@@velvetvert9431 Leptotes have similar blooms, a lot of blooms at a time, a lot more often, and the leaves generally look like stubby pencils instead of that cattleya paddle. leaf. I really like the succulent/ strappy leafed orchid plants though. laelia lundii is similar, has a seasonal blooming season in winter/spring, but the plant to me at least is interesting enough not in bloom.

i inherited a large, root bound peace lily from my grandmother and immediately untangled the miles for roots and broke into 2 plants… they are just now looking happy again and that was almost 4 months ago! such babies 🙄
“Don’t hate me if I talk about your favorite plant” 😂 😭
You’ve helped me resurrect a graveyard of plants I killed last summer, and I’m sure those babies are grateful for it.
She keeps them in loose growth compounds let them get root bound!!
Baby’s almost hereee!! Congrats guys💕 hope everything goes great!!👶🏼
Have you thought about splitting up your peace lily into two plants?
Aub divided your Peace Lilly and prone the roots.
You can sell off the divisions.
Since hoya love light, maybe they wold be less likely to bloom in a low or lower light area.? I'm hoping you have a healthy speedy delivery! Love you.
I got a node from Etsy for like $40, and one year later it has quite a few leaves and now I'm getting a runner. Can't wait to prop!
That big breath before your “BYEEEE” is definitely screaming pregnancy vibes!! 💕💕💕 ahhhhh
Not sure if it's true, but I've heard they send out runners when there's too little humidity. They require a ridiculously high level of humidity
@@gabrielpatten6939 that's quite possible. I mean think about it, larger fenenstraitions probably have something to do with himudity. Maybe cuz naturally they would dry out easier with leaves like that so they probably do require Ron's of humidity to be happy
Congratulations on the baby’s arrival!!!! I’m excited to hear about him. Hope you have a great day!
Lol!
Hoya tip, put one of those mesh baggies around the blooms. It’ll collect the sap and let it air dry (And you can eat them!) and then you can dump the little baggie into the compost and use it for he next one
I love this video! And you are glowing!! ❤️An oblique is at the TOP of my wishlist! Could you make a video about them?
Yes definitely!
I would LOVE to have one in my collection but from what I hear, growing it out of a node can be tricky..so It’d be awesome to know as much as I possibly can before I put my money down for it… 😍😍😍
I’ll be happy to take all the Hoya off your hands 🤣🤣. Seriously, wishing you and the family all the best. Congrats again 💜💜
Your videos are so cute I love people who are genuine
Congrats to you on your new Sprout😂
I never knew they are so many!!!
Hey Harli, do you think increasing the duration of you grow lights would help promote more foliage vs flowers?
I can't wait til your shop is open so I can support all of your hard work!!
i’ve heard that hoyas bloom seasonally and basically it happens when they get more water after the dry season. people trying to induce blooms would want to simulate a dry season and then water more heavily after a bit, so maybe if you want to stop them blooming you should water more consistently and just keep them more hydrated! i’ve also found in my own experience that my hoyas tend to bloom when i water them after forgetting to water for a long time, so i think there’s some truth to it. good luck!
Did you get your lips done? 😍
Appreciate the honesty and insight..please follow up with what plants you love to keep and your valuable tips 😍
I’m in the same kid/pet boat when it comes to cacti! My hubby and I say when the kids grow up we will collect again 🌵🥰 but I also want to rescue senior dogs 🤷♀️
The good thing about senior dogs is that they move slowly
For Hoya sap, I wipe some cold water onto the area (or preferably I dip the area into cold water) and it seems to stop the secretion. Yuck, hate that word, haha.
When you said that you’ve been in that house for two years I screamed! That’s crazy time is just flying!
When did you get lip filler???
bird of paradice grow outdoors in direct sun in my country, hot bright sun.
Maybe placing the Hoya is less light could stop them from blooming? Mine do well in medium light too, just don't bloom.
HAPPY BIRTH DAY HARLI+ NEW BB+ G FAMILYY
Your Peace Lily sensation is why I bought my 2 gorgeous Peace lilies!!
Correction: API Stress Coat
Thanks!!
Mix it in water for sure!!
Ur peacelilly is looking soo good , what is the soul u used & how did u fertilise it
Take that BOP outside in the summer, I have a 30 y/o plus BOP that was touching my ceiling, take it out all summer and all the new leaves are much more manageable height and standing straight! Make sure to cut the older leaves as new ones come in! 💚
I love how you regret your Hoya blooms, yet I can’t get mine to bloom for the life of me 😂😂
I love my Hoya’s.
I'm just getting back into hoyas. Looking forward to the blooms! About Peace Lily, maybe later on you could separate some of the plant.
silly question but what about getting self watering plant pots. I was thinking about your peace lily.
Congrats on ur 2nd bundle of joy. Im pregnant with our 3rd and last
The Hoya blooms makes sense to me as a mom lol You have kiddos now so don’t need ANY extra messes or things to have to clean up 🤣🤙
How often are you to mist a terrarium?
Orchids are slowwww growing. The excitement is getting them to flower once a year vs. pushing out a new leaf every couple of weeks.
Have you considered using bamboo stakes to shape the bird of paradise plant/avoid leaning ?
I understand what you are feeling with the Hoya. I recently had my lacunosa bloom and it won't stop. I'm really allergic to the flowers on the lacunosa, so I've had to cut the flowers off, not the peduncle just the flowers. It's the same allergic reaction I get to lily flowers in bouquets. So far all of my Hoya that have bloomed do not smell good to me, but I love hoya foliage so much.
That's so sad! I love the lacunosa smell. Hope your allergy is manageable ❤️
Thank you for sharing! I just bought some hoya and bird of paradise. I'm learning what is best for my house so that makes sense why you picked these plants.
Split your peace Lily in half then put back on smaller pots. They do well with it.
hi! when youre pregnant youre extra sensitive to smells, i personally stopped being able to tolerate the smell of dogs 😬 so it could hopefully just be a pregnancy thing!
Can you please tell me what type of cactus that was that you showed on screen??
I hope you see this message. At exactly 12:49, between the middle 2 protruding parts of the top side of the leaf, there is a tiny length of silk.
I'm super observant when it comes to spider mites so I wanted to warn you.
It could just be a spider passed by but it is so fine and definitely could be spider mite. I presume the plant is kept really humid so they wouldn't do so well on it but it's probably worth a check. Good luck. 🥰
Hey! Thanks for letting me know! Fortunately it doesn’t have spider mites! I watch super close for those little suckers because they’re the WORST haha
We shall see!😌
I want it!
I'm regretting some of mine but just because I'm a little overwhelmed right now...So I'm give some plants to friends!
P.S..I have always wanted a Cocker Spaniel and seeing your cutie made me finally take the plung!! I got my girl 3 weeks ago😍
Same!!! I am trying to minimize but some plants I just can not part with
Peace Lilly is easy to divide.
I have never liked the smell of Hoyas. But the flowers are so, so pretty.
I’d be interested in your channel. You should start one!
Amen to the orchids! But I did get one to grow a baby on the stalk with that special paste
I'm the same with orchids.. I like them when they bloom but when they don't it's just unnecessary shelf space
@@notverynotoriousg5674 Thank you, I will definitely end up with more orchids on my wish list!
Yes! I kept my jewel orchid afor the foliage and my bamboo orchid bc it blooms without any work lol. The others I have slowly ignored to death.
