Good video as always. The first caller noted they were moving into their rental for 2 years to qualify as a primary residence. That may not save them as much as they think as the rules are clear thst the gain ln the sale is prorated. For example if this was a rental for 8 years then they lived there 2 years as primary residence and the gain was $500k then $400k would be taxable. It may even be more if they took depreciation or otherwise lowered the basis.
You can move to France all you want unless you become a French citizen and work you are not getting on their healthcare system. Ex pats buy private insurance. When I was there I broke my leg I was physically taken out of the ambulance and placed on the sidewalk with my bone out of my shin. I called the embassy. They helped and told me to get a taxi yes a taxi to the American hospital of Paris. They got me signed up for private insurance. The hospital was fantastic by the way.
Thanks for sharing your experiences! Your broken leg ordeal though, how crazy is that!! Glad you were able to get the help you needed - and I hope the leg is back in top shape now!
I was a bit surprised there was any discussion on $1m vs $40k per year as the break even is never. You can buy a risk free 30 year T bond paying 4.25% and get $42.5k per year and 30 years later you still have the $1m that would go to your heirs vs zero with the annual payment.
Is there a way you can add a fixed income calculator to your blueprint that you offer? I served my country for 8 years before being medically discharged, now receiving a fixed amount of income each month for the rest of my life, that increases each year with COLA. Is there a calculator that I can use to see how much this amount will be in 20 years when I retire?
love the show guys!!!!
Hey thanks for watching @scottop1972!

Appreciate your perspective on both of these topics, Keith!
Retirement planning is an art and a science; Joe and Big Al graduated summa cum laude in both.
