Riding the Triumph Bonneville T120 to Magpie Mine.

- It was the first warm day of the year so I hopped on board my trusty Triumph Bonneville T120 for a ride out to visit Magpie Mine in the Peak District. The roads leading to and around the mine are a motorcyclists dream, so it makes a good destination for a days ride.
People have been mining this area since at least the 1700's, but the current ruins on the site all date from the 19th Century and provide a great place to stop for a few moments while exploring the Peak District. It's a quiet site, infrequently visited and free, plus it's only a short walk away from the roadside where there's a small area to park.
If you're riding in the area and are looking for a place to visit, I'd very much recommend checking it out.

What helmet with the flip down visor is that? I'd love to find one just like that!
@@g0nk the helmet is a Hedon Hedonist and the visor is a Bell Snap Flipdown visor, though I think they’ve been discontinued now.
Another one of my favourite spots in the Peak District, you have to be careful as certain times of the year cows are allowed to roam in and around the mine. Hence the grids by the road entrance. Sometimes the trustees for the mine are at the house and are very happy to chat about the mine and it's history. It makes a lovely ride out especially if you've stopped for lunch at either the Yondeman(as seen) or Old Smithy.
Totally agree, it's a great spot!
Nice video man. I appreciate the multiple angles and shots you did. Great Triumph soundtrack too. I am really falling in love with this bike.
Thanks Robert, glad you liked it. The T120’s are great machines, they can do almost everything and look great doing it 👌
Great ride - thanks for letting us tag along.
Seems like your kind of spot 😁
Hi Matt, great vid as you get used.
A couple of weeks ago I got back from a 4800km round trip from Buenos Aires to Catamarca (Argentina) with my T100 fitted with your luggage.
Al worked good!
Sounds like an amazing trip! Glad to hear the luggage served you well too, it’s always nice to hear that folk have been off adventuring with them 🙂
Yes Matt lovely place that I went last year didn’t know it was there 😊😊
Cracking video again top drawer
I didn’t either until recently, nice little hidden gem.

Again a great video who motivates me to take my T120 out of the garage 🤩
I highly recommend it 🙂
Well done Matt!! Man, Machine and a flask!! Looks a good destination too!!!
It’s all you need 😁. It’s a lovely little spot, the roads nearby are great too 👌

Great video, as always.
I'm always glad you liked it 🙂

Thanks Eduardo, yes the sun is here but the warmth is not, it’s still very cold 🥶.
Hopefully summer will be here soon!
Si,por aquí también todavía hace fresco,yo vivo al norte de España (Santander) y me pasa parecido pero ya tenemos el verano muy cerca,un saludo Matt
Top notch as per 😊 thanks Matt 😊
Most welcome!
I love your Triumph :)
Thanks, so do I 😁
Very nice video. I like the different camera views. Cheers from Germany 🇩🇪. I just returned from a 180 miles day trip on my T100.
Sounds like a good trip 🙂
Ooooh Goldtop! The shop is only 15 mins up the road from me, I often pop in for a coffee and a cake! (Their Apple pie is epic!) ...
I'll have to visit sometime then, I love apple pie 😁
@@ClassicRides if you ever do get down this neck of the woods I'll buy you a slice! 👌
@@richiedewen9289 I'll take you up on that.
Yondermanns looked quiet Matt. Was there a couple of weekends ago with Hinckley Triumph Owners Club. Great vid as always. 👍
Thanks Andy, I usually try to go places mid-week so it’s a bit quieter, the cafe was still full inside though. I bet you lot made a good noise pulling into the car park.
Спасибо за очередное прекрасное видео! 👍
You’re very welcome, I’m glad you liked it 🙏
Thanks mate.. 👍😎🇬🇧
You're most welcome 😁
Another great video, even managed to get my bike in there - in cafe car park 👍
Which one was yours Mark?
@@ClassicRides the Ducati Scrambler, my mate was on the Guzzi. We came over and had a chat as we both recognised your bike 👍
@@markgallagher2386 ah I was looking for the Barnsley Rider, I see you’re one and the same 😁
7500 miles from my T120 and some of the slack taken up by your excellent (but too brief) videos😄
Ah sorry, I'll try to do better to lessen the void in your life 😁
learned something new..we can put the helmet under the seat..super.. greetings😃😃😃
Yes one of a few ‘secrets’ hidden on the T120 😁
Another well shot video Matt, and noticed some changes to the bike.
Thanks Les, yes I've put some of the original fittings back on, the aftermarket ones were starting to look very tatty.
@@ClassicRides really, surprised at that Matt, I had a few aftermarket parts from the same supplier & thought they were well made but time tells I suppose.
@@lesperchard3793 to be fair I think two winters worth of riding would be a bit rough on most parts. Some of it just needs a proper polish to bring it back, but I can’t do it while they’re on the bike.
So you have a Rottweiler 🤩👏🏻 i really enjoyed this mate. They way you tell the stories with great visual is nothing less than amazing. Out of curiosity, how many action cameras do you have on the bike? 😆 I wish you included more of the Magpie Mine. You live in a country with insane numbers of castle and old history. Maybe something to include more of? Thank you for another masterpiece. Truly enjoy your videos
I have a Labrador, though he’s not in this vid 🐕🦺. I usually have two GoPro’s running at once, though my 8 isn’t working properly so for this video I gave up using it halfway through.
I would have included more of the mine but my off-bike camera is also starting to malfunction badly, it’s a miracle I got any footage at all for this video 😁.
Surely Norway has a similar amount of ruins, some might argue you’re an even older country.
As always, it’s a huge compliment to get a thumbs up from you mate, your work is consistently brilliant.
@@ClassicRides Aaahh… thought i saw a wallpaper of a Rottweiler on the phone 👏🏻😂 All in the details. Only two. You are changing angles a lot then i recon? Norway has a lot of old ruins and history, but most buildings here was made of wood (longhouses) so it is not nearly as preserved as the builds over there.
@@tshansen haha, he does have a bit of a Rotti look to him, but he’s 100% choco Labrador 😁. Yes it’s a lot of stopping to change camera positions, I’m pretty efficient at it now though 😁, still a bit of a chore sometimes.
I’d never considered that about Norwegian history, I guess that would make preserving buildings difficult, still you have more than enough natural history to make up for it.
No fly screen? Cool video and location.
Yes I’ve taken it off, going for a more classic look this year 😀
Another really good vid. What did they mine there. I worked over 50 years in coal mines. Appreciate a blue sky motorcycle ride.
Thanks Sam. I believe it was one of a number of individual lead mines in the area.
Im brewing a cup of tea and gonna watch this on my tv, looking forward for another nice video...😊To get inspired for my own roadtrip on my Bonny, maybe even this year... Any good tips for a good platform for B&B adresses? Would be the end of august a good time to travel there? Had an idea to travel from Hull to the Peaks and then via Buxton, Macclesfield futher down to Snowdonia even.....well gonna do some planning for sure ...
Keep up the good work👍🏻😎 im a fan 😊
I hope you enjoy it Marianne! I don't know of any good directories for B&B's I'm afraid, personally I don't think you can wrong with AirB&B and Booking.com. August will be a great time to visit, the rain and cold should be gone by then 😁, if you need a hand with routes let me know, always happy to help.
@@ClassicRides Thank you for the tips. With the routes I maybe hold you to that. 😊👍🏻 Have a nice weekend
Yay! Good weather at last. But what's this, the T120 doesn't have a reverse gear????
More like it doesn’t have sensible owner, I knew I was parking in a ditch and still did it anyway 🤦🏻♂️
👏👏👏
Thank you 🙏
This was super theropeautic to watch - the laid back riding, nice scenery and easy music. What year is the Bonnie - like the silver paint scheme.
Thanks Steve, glad you liked it. The colour scheme is called Aluminium Silver from the 2018 T120 line up.
Excellent video.
Thanks Richard 🙏
Nice video! what’s your backpack brand?
Thank you 🙏. It’s my own brand, I don’t have any black ones left at the moment though.
❤👍
🙌
Great video! I have a question about your jacket. Is elbow and shoulder armor removable? Or there is only pocket for back armor? Goldtop’s website doesn’t specify. Thanks!
Glad you liked the video! The jacket comes with removable Knox shoulder & elbow armour included, there is a pocket for a back protector but it doesn’t come with one.
@@ClassicRides thanks for your response, man, it helps a lot. And I love your videos! 👊🏻
@@dawidos117 No problem at all buddy 👊🏻
Nice video! Jus curious that you have a luggage rack and a pannier rack but choose to wear a rucksack? I only wear a rucksack if i have to as i prefer riding without that extra weight on my butt 😅
A backpack is more convenient if I know I’m going to be leaving the bike, I wouldn’t leave all my camera gear in bags on the bike if I can’t see it.
As you say some great roads, avoid the area in the tourist season to see it at it's best and enjoy the roads
I can't argue with that, I even try to avoid weekends at any time of year 😁
Hi Matt....another great vid....some fantastic place in the peak district.
I like you wear an open face helmet.....but my hearing is becoming sensitive of late as I age.....Can I ask....do you find the open face helmet noisy....talking wind noise.
I have been experimenting with ear plugs....the one I try dont seem to help.
How do you go on with your open face helmet Matt.
Hi Nick,
I tried quite a few open face helmets before I settled on the Hedon, noise was one of the main reasons. It’s quieter than my Arai full face believe it or not.
It’s quite a snug fitting helmet so really doesn’t suffer from wing getting in anywhere, even at 70mph. If you wear sunglasses with it then it can get loud to be fair, but that’s not really the helmets fault, so you’ll want a decent pair of goggles to keep the wind out.
The Hedon’s are a little expensive, but I’d really recommend them to anyone, especially if you’re looking for a quiet open face helmet.
@@ClassicRides Thank you Matt for that....interesting....glasses....Mmmm so they are causing turbulent noisy air around your face....have I understood that correctly....makes sense.
At the moment I am experimenting with ear plugs and foam inserts/pads to sit between the helmet and my ears.
Pity these company's dont sell helmets on approval.....our heads vary in shape so much.....
Hope your enjoying this great riding weather as much as I am.
@@nickaxe771 yes I think for me at least, where the glasses frame contact the helmet liner, it pushes it out creating a gap that air rushes into, which can be a bit loud.
Perhaps some custom made earplugs might be the thing for you.
@@ClassicRides Got a few ideas of way to improve things for me.
Thanks Matt.
Matt I cut out 2 foam pads today...1/2 inch thick...around 3 or 4ins wide....pity I cant add pictures.
I wear a balaclava.....had the idea to fit the foam pads inside the balaclava over my ears.
Only prototype so far.....but just had a road test.....super such a difference and comfy....a transformation.
I had already stick some 3 inch circular neoprene discs gut from an old diving suit inside my open face helmet.....prob around 4mm thick.....but I still had an air gap between those and my ears.....the form fills that gap.
The foam feels so comfy....my wife suggested fitting the pads inside the foot section of an old pair of tights to keep the foam intact and easier to slide in between my head and the balaclava before I fit my helmet.
You make me want a T120, is it as good as it looks?
It's better 😁
Tailights looks similar to the one in h'ness cb350
You're not wrong. The CB350's a great looking bike, shame it's not available in the UK.
@@ClassicRides yah of course ❣️i own one🥰 hope honda will launch there one day
@@irshadmuhammed7270 I see you're a lucky man!
@@ClassicRides you are also a very very lucky manh 😊t120 is my ultimate dream and living n driving in europian side also🔥🖤

What is this for a fog light on left side
It’s just an additional spotlight 🙂
Engine sounds different this time. Have you done any changes?
I fitted an X pipe so it's got a bit more of a growl now 😁
@@ClassicRides is it bearable for long rides?? I got same slip-ons but lack of deep growl feel :)) Which xpipe you gone for?
@@cgrlkn I’ve got the Motone one, it’s not that loud really unless accelerating hard. I’ve increased the volume a bit for the video just because it sounds nice though 🙂
Sorry right side
Great place ..keep riding bro 😅
I will thanks Peter 😁
