I am from Northern Virginia and kniw Dumfrues and those area that used to be called “the country” and many people there are Military or Government employees. Also, have advanced degrees and do very well for themselves. I’m NEVER surprised when Northern Virginian cities are celebrated, but what about people without professional jobs? Simple put many black folks can’t afford the cost of living required. Someone else posted about security and safety in the cities. 🤷🏽‍♀️

If you are black in America, stick together, and stay on code where race relations are concerned it doesn't matter where you live. A united group of blacks is formidable and something to behold. If you aren't united forget it. Not disparaging these places but this is a society that doesn't want you in it on any kind of terms of equality. On terms of subordination it will accept you but forget terms of equality. Black octogenarian widower here, in less than two years a nonagenarian.

Thank you for your list but I would be careful about Bowie and Waldorf, MD. I lived in Waldorf for a few years and in Temple Hills, MD for 15 years. All three cities are in Prince George’s County. Moved to Alexandria VA 7 years ago basically having to flee PG County because of the crime and low-rated schools. Bowie still has an active KKK chapter and the traffic getting out to either city is gridlocked 24/7 down Branch Ave/Rt. 301 or the awful Rt. 210/Indian Head Highway. There are simply too many people living in Waldorf and Bowie and not enough infrastructure to support all of them moving there. Bowie still has a nice amount of homes with land and a few small farms and a lot of parks. It is also an easy drive to Annapolis to experience Marylands famous crab cakes. Never move to Temple Hills. Shootings, break-ins, worst schools, the list goes on and on.

Can’t believe BOWIE MD made the list!! 🥰😍One thing not talked about is the traffic in the DMV area which is pretty aggravating.
And also I can’t help noticing that with the exception of CA and TX all of these cities are along the east coast. I’ve heard horror stories about how bad the racism is in the Midwest for Black people and Brown & Asian people… but I’m curious are there safe communities for Black folk?

With that said, I would hardly consider the majority of these “small towns”. This is very misleading. If you meant by population, that’s different but several of these are very densely crowded suburbs in metropolitan areas. I was actually looking for “small towns” so you may want to reconsider the labeling of this video or define your definition of “small towns”.

Glad to find this page. As someone affected by return to work which is causing me to move 1/2 way across the country instead of returning to my office, it was good to hear of some of the communities around Atlanta. I do not know anything about Georgia and have only been once now that I am forced to move there. I definitiely will look into the neighborhood suggested in this video. Thanks for a comprehesive list of cities.

Dumfries, Va?..... hmmmm🤔. Overall, not a bad listing of cities though.

Dumfries, Virginia is amazing. My family has lived in Potomac Shores for 6 years now. Most of the families I see there are young and black. The new builds there start at 450k for a condo and 750k for single family homes.

With the type of work that I do, I cannot just move anywhere. So, be sure that you have a plan, a job lined up, and know what do you get paid. Is it comparable to living in the area. cost a living, cost of groceries, taxes, property taxes on car or home, car inspections required, car registration prices, things I didnt know about before moving to a Common Wealth state. They have their own ( Different) laws etc.
I wish I could just move anywhere and find a job paying $55,000/yr. To $65,000/yr.

You left Yellow Springs Ohio off the list!! Great location near columbus, cincinnati, dayton and wright patterson afb. But a small town very progressive and friendly. Lots of upper education with Antioch college( corretta scott king went), located near central state, Wilberforce, and wright state univ. Home of Dave Chapelle.

I appreciate your research and presentation. If you don't mind, I would like to know, to what extent these towns cater to the Black experience amd to Black needs such as celebrating Black holidays like Kwanzaa or Juneteenth and having Black history celebrated nd taught in its schools.
I would also like to know the condition of race relations in these towns and the level of political involvement for Black people there.
    Thank you,

Thank you for this video! So much of "Best Places to Live" or the "Best Small Towns" are mostly from a white, pro-Christian, hetero perspective. So while it may be great for "Karen/Ken", it's not exactly welcoming to everyone else.
