      Any possibility of a quick explanation of the improvised solo. The augmented line leading to the emin7 followed by the dmin7 over the C#min7 vamp is of particular interest. Thank you from Ottawa. You are an inspirational musician.

    Thanks Ben, rhythm guitar takes discipline. Every once in a while I’ll play along with Le Freak or Good Times just to get my funk chops in shape. Tower of Power’s So Very Hard to Go is a great exercise in that Chitlin’ Circuit style.

    I like all the styles of rhythm guitar but I am 81 years old and play a nylon string classical guitar, usually by myself. I don’t use picks. I try to use some of these techniques to brighten up my solo playing. I attempt to use some Brazilian techniques and some Flamenco. though I don’t excel at any of these styles. Enjoyed your session. Thanks for posting!

    The second method is my favorite and I've never thought of it as melodic rhythm guitar. I really like Denny Dias's rhythm guitar playing on Only a Fool Would Say That by Steely Dan. Thank you for making this video it was great!

    Cool. I palm mute, at some level, using technique #1. More staccato - ish. Depending on the style of the music sometimes dictates a preferable technique. Steely Dan tunes' Josie is a great example of both... that unison with the bass is timeless😄

    I have a question about melodic rhythm guitar. Are we supposed to improvise riffs or prepare them?
    With my current skill level, I have difficulty improvising

    • @beneunson
      @beneunson 7 месяцев назад +1

      It's great to have some rhythm guitar approaches that you've already worked on, and then you can apply them in an "improvised" manner in the moment, especially if you're just playing over a 1 chord vamp/groove, just like I am at 09:01
