I had the privilege to train under Yahara sensei in his dojo in Tokyo I've spent nearly 6 month in japan... I've learned a out this fascinating KWF.... Comptession /expansion Maximum use of the hip... Finding the correct stands to generate such a whip power its beautiful
That is interesting thought. I learned from a young age by my trainers in the different fighting arts( karate, Muay Thai & Boxing) to keep your chin tucked. I am not sure if kicks would be performed faster if chin was not tucked.. Would be interesting to try it out. Thanks for the comment
Yoko Geri: If you step behind rather than in front you will create a much stronger side kick Mae Geri: you should learn back slightly to drive the hips forward.
Hold on... Don't forget the supporting leg you have to load heavy comptession to allow expandion/explosion of power in your kick... Its hard on the body but with long continuous practice you will understand the principles and body will adjust.... That's why the head a bit tucked in with heavy tension in abdomin.
only works against common people. one kick one kill due to the power. If you fight against another fighter in a longer fight especially in a pro fight, you'll get tired much faster with that kind of compression. Traditional karatekas especially the non-full body contact do not pay attention to muscular stamina since there's no direct impact in their kumite. Muaythai and Kyokushin teach students to relax the muscles when doing kicks and strikes to ensure more stamina for longer fights, power comes from the speed and body mechanics, not the muscle compression
Karate emphasises relaxation ,look up andre bertal shotokan,he will demonstrate incredible speed and power through relaxation ,no tension at all, this sensei is teaching correct body mechanics not muscle tention, your are misinterpreting the demonstration.
Yahara karate is not sport or Hollywood karate, it's for real life where you don't go ten rounds with an opponent, you only have one chance, maybe two to save yourself, Ikken Hissatsu is how karate was developed several centuries ago on the Ryukyu Islands.

Glad you enjoyed the video
Yes that's boxing philosophy one of the more practical arts however not sure would work in Karate be difficult I think
Extreme power.
Fantastic instructor
Otsuka is technically superb.👊
If you think what he's doing's easy - have a go.

it isn't leaning back per say it's thrusting the hip up and forward it looks the same but it's different
Awesome. I'm not sure on the keeping your head tucked down on front kicks. I get more speed, power and height when I lean back some.

Traditional karate is not only for kumite and sports fights it is for real life self defense
