    When I was very young, my sister would take me to this small shop not far from our home. In this shop, a man made butter to sell to the locals. I remember standing in a queue of women, all chatting about this and that, and smiles on their faces, that got bigger, when they looked towards the shop keeper working the butter into shapes - with wooden patters - of different sizes to meet the desire of each customer. The paper wrapping was crinkly, with an opaque whitish colour, his name stamped on it, encircled with a single dark line. It was the tastiest butter...I ever tasted. The memory of those beautiful smiling woman, and the butter maker that gave them a reason to smile, has stayed with me to this day, and has not diminished in clarity or emotion. It still makes me smile a smile only the sun can. A smile of life. I have never tasted butter as tasty since.

    I had a feeling you guys followed the weston a price way of eating. I love their foundation. It's changed my life. After I heard a podcast with Sally Fallon about why we need animal fats, especially women and why its good for our hormones I immediately started cooking with butter and I changed my whole diet. From being vegetarian to eating nutrient dense foods.

    I have been watching your vlogs for only a couple of weeks and it takes me back to a time in my life where I lived on a property with goats, snakes, dogs, ducks and chickens. We lived in a shed with composting toilet and outdoor kitchen for over 4 years as we build our own home (Queensland - Australia). I recall the absolute tiredness and satisfaction of living simply and close to nature. My daughter grew up in that space and claims it was like a never ending camping trip. This is a statement of a youth well spent. Since starting your vlogs, I am constantly telling my friends "Talasbuan, get on it". My lifestyle is different now and I miss the old place. I cannot tell you how calming and beautiful I find your vlog. It is a balm for my spirit and soul. You have inspired us - My husband and I plan to build an outdoor kitchen in our back yard and get into some slow cooking and definitely some pulled pork. One day we would love to travel to Sweden and hire a van and drop by for a taste of that butter and to lend our hands to your many jobs. It is a very long way (and covid 19 is an added problem) but you feel like close friends to us since you are in our lounge rooms on this vlog so often. Respect to you both xx

    Another amazing vlog. Without electric machinery, using the old utensils you make everything look so natural and easy. I don't mean it's easy to hand crank the milk separator, or the butter churn, but you make using the machinery look easy. You are both a pleasure to watch, and live a lifestyle I envy so much. One day I'll be making my own cream and butter, and cheese, and I'll buy the hand machinery, and do it the old way like you guys. :)

    The article on butter was extremely interesting and eye opening to read! Second new thing I have learned from watching this vlog. Other new thing I learned was what cured meat was. I had no idea that some meats weren’t “cooked” like ham. That they were salted and dried. Until this week. And I am 36. Thankyou for sharing this information. Lovely video, the butter making scene could not have been more perfect with all the natural sounds. As a child I use to hand milk the cows and separate the milk. My least favorite part, the cleaning of the separater discs.😄 The butter churn was a large glass container with the paddles attached to the lid. Nothing is quite as good as fresh butter!

    LOve you butter churn, very different from what I have. We just got a dairy heifer, she is Jersey Guernsey cross and is beautiful. We had a Jersey cow doe 12 years and she passed at age 18 years old. It too 6 years to be able to afford another, the dairy cows have skyrocketed to as high as $3,000.00 each here in parts of the USA. We'll wait until she's a year old or year and a half old to breed her, but looking forward to butter again. We have goats for milk and cheese but butter is harder to get from goat's milk. I used to let my cream culture overnight or if cooler weather for a day, then churn, the flavor is much better than fresh cream butter. Your entry is looking great. Blessings for your coming days.

    Good suggestion of attaching your butter churner to a bicycle and just sitting on the bike and churning! Also - the platform in front of your porch/hallway/front room area is called a veranda - which is an open or covered area as an integral part of your house or skirting around the whole house - it's a wonderful outdoor room, in affect. Hope this helps and I love watching your vlogs - thank you.

    I have some SprouterNickel and local 2.5 lb Rye which that home made butter would go great with !! Did I see a roof on your house ? Butter is no different from cheese when it comes to nutrition.I like your ‘board and batten’ siding. The trick when it comes to milking sheep is to move the stand inside with a ramp. Then you build a grain box that they will happily feed on while you milk them. By shaking grain in a can they will soon be jumping up the ramp .

    "När kameran står still, solen far ut och in, då växer det skägghår mitt i". (sammanfattning av konversationen) Hahahaha ni är helt underbara! :) All the tasty things you can get from milk.. I totally agree with that butter with bread-thing! Favorite scene (among many) is when the chicken is let loose. -TO TOWN EVERYONE! :) May and June, the months of light and life. You caught that real good in this vlog. The timber house is going to be awesome, you really got some skills Mathias with the axe and chainsaw. Thanx for sharing guys! :)

    Another treat and a perfect way to enjoy morning coffee withTalasbuan but no homemade butter😕...yet. Now I see why cheese from sheep milk is so expensive, so little from 2 sheep. Good plan on how to build the farstu. Everyday a little bit closer to Tova moving the furniture into your new house. Great video again, tack.

    Is that farstu different to veranda? Kuisti, veranta or porstua (porch) like we call it in Finland? We have also word tuulikaappi what is like ”wind closet” in English and built to more in to the modern houses. In fact I think it’s some kind of law here to include ”tuulikaappi” when building new houses for more energy sufficient buildings. I don’t know about that but the meaning is the same in the old houses I think. Not to loose heat from the cabin witch is wery important here in winter and for the boots and other outwear stuff to keep the cabin clean. It’s also good for storaging food in the winter. Some people use it also like summer dining room. But that’s usually more like villa style I think.
    Butter was wery good looking. It’s good to remind yourself how much milk it takes to get one kilo butter. And a lot of work too. - Tessa

      Yes, farstu is a room in the house, but used for having outer clothing and shoes in, veranda for me is outside with a roof on, sort of :D Seems like tuulikaappi are a good word to use for what we are building, but it will open straight into the house so i guess it isn't that sufficient for keeping energy! Do you also make butter? :) /Tova

      Talasbuan Thanks for answering. I think we have lot of common what comes to old log buildings but also differencies in architecture like we have here between places.
      I don’t make or haven’t made butter but I have been following butter making from near. I have never had so much milk to do that so I have rather made cheese and fil and been satisfied to buy butter from grocery. Luckily we have good eco butter there too. -Tessa

    All food is just a vehicle for transporting butter to my mouth!!! 😂 Fabulous video once again! I must admit, I too am curious about the foundation on your log home and how it will be supported and what will the floor be like inside? Happy 🇨🇦 Day!!! Cheers

    • @Talasbuan
      @Talasbuan  5 лет назад +2

      Sounds very reasonable!! There are a lot of problems with timber houses sinking into the ground, but we have made deep holes and put rocks in them and on top that the support stones. hopefully it will keep the house from moving with the ground frost. We will put the floor on floor beams that are fastened in the lowest timber logs. Then for insulation we will use a special kind of technique, hard to explain bc i don't know the word for it, but we will show it in future vlogs! :) The floor boards will be made from scratch by us using spruce or if we find an old old floor we can reuse :D Have a lovely weekend Sandy!

      The Weston a price foundation is very meticulous with what they are recomending about food and health. They base their recommendations on scientific studies and research about what people ate before the industry started to create all this poisonous crap we're eating today. I personally find their information one of the most trustworthy out there.
