I been there, a few times, i had a heap of fun there, i drunk the whole time i was there basically, chewing Buai, bought some weed of a cop, went to a party at the house of the guy who owns the bank there, and just drove around a heap of my PNG mates having fun, it was awesome a good experience, but i was lucky to be living with locals so was probably more real, more fun and much more safe.

A friend of mine who was from Rabaul & therefore a local lived & ran a business in Port Moresby. Somewhere around '93 or '94 his son went out to a restaurant for a meal with friends. During their meal the place was raided by 'rascals' & he was shot dead with a shotgun @ 18. Usually tourist move around in groups with guides & so there is very little danger. To say there is no danger at all means you have your head in the sand. Most private house are surrounded by 12' fences topped with razor wire.

Wow Avoid Gerehu LOL that's where i grew up (1992) ,i left Pom city when i was 12 years old (1999) but living and growing up there has made me tough mentally to face the modern world that "hit now ask later" i believe the local lingo its "Noxbusi" attitude is instilled in me.
i leave with these last words mosbi ya shhh em ples blo mi yu bi nogat! Thanks for the post.

Port Moresby is the capital city but is just one little part of PNG. 90% of the country is rural with less development and has remained untouched and natural as ever. If you want to know the country and you're looking for adventure, you have to get out of Port Moresby and into the provinces. That's where the excitement is.

    • @martinhuynh4032
      @martinhuynh4032 5 лет назад +4

Yeah the country is where the excitement is. Where you will be mugged by people with machetes in broad daylight and no one will hear you scream and there's no where to run. Gotta love that excitement.

you can go out at night, but at your own risk. Some times after heading to the nightclubs or restaurants and returning back home, there are occasions where people observe your activity and take advantage of people such as holding them up when at there drive way (since every house usually has 6-7 foot fences). Pretty much the saying there is if your soft hearted then get out of town. lol

dude, cool video..."while in Port Moresby, never walk alone at night. never talk on your phone or show anyone you have any cash. never use an ATM or take public transportation. never go anywhere alone. don't go swimming in the ocean. don't go buy groceries alone. don't drink the water. don't eat anything unless it's McDonald's. don't eat the McDonald's either. don't go to the park or take a ride in any car...etc..."
i'm going somewhere safe and quiet by comparison...like south central LA =/

@poganstick: Yes, five days is too long. There's really not a lot to do there unless you stay at the ultra-luxury Airways Hotel or at Loloata. In one day you can get a feel for the city. Two if you really want to explore it.
Having an escort is helpful, but not necessary. You can walk around Town, villages like Hanuabada, and take the PMVs around on your own during the daytime no problem. If you go to public markets and shady neighbourhoods, then I'd make a local friend.

one night after returning from the club in port moresby, i was surrounded by a gang of raskols that was cruising the streets looking for people to rob. they hopped out the truck and pummeled me with bars of soap in socks. the beating lasted 30 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity, once i was rendered completely incapacitated, they rummaged through my wallet and left. i had internal injuries that were so severe, i had to have most of my organs removed and now i live in the hospital. i am unable to go outside, walk, talk, or eat on my own. all because raskols wanted the 20 bucks i had in my pocket.
don't go to port moresby. it simply is not worth it

hmmmm no offence but I am thinking PNG crime rates are low may also due to no reports are made for most crimes so crimes not report = not file not recorded ? its like 100 cases happens a week but only 3 cases are reported, some are covered up ? some cases are treated as daily rountine ? etc... well i might not be right ...

Thanks for catching that spelling error, Felicity. It was a tough task gathering a list of dangerous areas in Moresby. Everyone I asked said something different, but a few names came up more than once. Kone was one of them. I also thought it looked alright, but I wasn't there long enough to really know.

@Mrgokueldestructor Well, it is an interesting place to live. Really! We have some very good places but I wouldnt recommend POM but other provinces but in terms of safety. You just have to go with a local and all's good.
Well, if you do plan on visiting, our people are awesome in hospitality.
    Cheers!

@Mrgokueldestructor That is sooooo true. Why can't we walk around at night?? Coz its freaking scary, you might get robbed or stabbed etc especially in Port Moresby and other big towns around the country... You have to get on a cab with three other people in the night coz you can't trust this cab drivers. Yes, we do party but you can't walk home or even walk around at night. You'd have to get on a cab or hire a car to get home. I'm ashamed our Pacific island countries are safer than POM!

This is not really an ultimate guide to POM. Ur telling people bout a particular end of POM, 4rm down town & its coast line to Hanuabada, that makes up only, what? 30% of the city & ur telling people to stay away from the rest 70%? POM is an amazing tourism experience anyone can get. FYI PNG's not in the top 70's of the worst crime rated countries, Australia has a higher crime rate compared to PNG, c it urself at NATIONALMONSTERS site- CRIME STATISTICS > TOTAL CRIME (MOST RECENT) BY COUNTRIES.

Republik Indonesia I been to and love both, there are far better places in Indonesia than Bali too, PNG is good because its raw, and the scenery there is amongst the best ive seen, its not a sit in your resort and relax place, its more Indiana Jones, which some people like, It would be good to go to Bali, after a trip to PNG, to rest and let all the insect bites, cuts and scratches heal.

I've been studying and had my eyes on the subject for years.
If PNG is so rich in natural resources, why does it take Whites to find them? I see the streets lined with European and American cars. Where did they come from? Exports from White countries. I see tall buildings. Did they build them without help from Whites? Answer these questions. Come on, it's not that hard to draw these conclusions.
