600 divided by 14 days divided by 10ppl is around $4.30 per person for a day. That is amazing to feed someone for less than $5 for one meal a day, much less 2-3 meals a day. Awesome job. Also hope my math is correct bc I didn’t double check. My second grade teacher would be shaking her head😂
But you didn't factor in that this isn't actually everything they will eat. Most of the meat they will eat isn't part of this grocery bill because they buy in bulk/raise some of their own meat and eggs I believe. And right now meat is sooo expensive so it would be way more.
@@Natnat994 you are definitely correct in that! We raise cattle and farm, it definitely makes a difference. But this is a good example of the difference meal planning can make. The real gamechanger in grocery shopping is going for the staples and avoiding processed foods as much as possible becouse they charge you even up to 5 times more than what you'd need to spend for the ingredients to make it yourself, so even if you have a coupon it's still not a good deal if you still can make it from scratch at half or third of the discounted price. Then there's stuff that is pricy like meats. If I cann't find meat at the right price... I just grab a whole chicken and carve it up at home in 10 minutes and I have 2-3 meat portions for 4 people + skin and bones for the broth (another dish) and sometimes when I'm not making soup, that handful of meat that gets off the bones... it ends up in an appetizer...
Prices vary with location, so don't judge two families with similar or the same number of children. Their needs can be very different as well. The time they have to make meals varies. This other family you're referring to has smaller children. Smaller children are very wasteful despite trying to teach them otherwise. Adults (in general) are more mindful of not wasting things (in this case, food).
