  • Dowlands first Galliarde (John Dowland 1588) allo Pacoloni
Arranged for four lutes: Rómulo Vega-González
    Arreglo para cuatro laúdes:Rómulo Vega-González
    Image/Imagen: John Dowland
    Lute/Laúd:
Tenor: Daniel Guzmán, Coyoacán, México 2015
Bass/Bajo: Omar Corrales, Costa Rica, 1983
Original for lute solo, I arranged this piece into a four lute version based on another consort setting by Dowland. I set up the bass lute part following Pacoloni’s style. Caught on by section C, now I know where the Beatles took their introduction to “And I love her”. Dowland was really groovy. See him portrayed on the image.

The Beatles”simple melody is no compare to this beautiful complex tune. Encore!!

Thank you. The bass line, part C, is like a reminder of the initial leitmotiv of the aforesaid song. Of course, complexity governs one of the two.

Your beautiful picture was recently painted by the great late lutenist George Weigand. He was inspired by a very old painting which was said to represent Giovanni Gabrieli (in fact it represents another Italian musician) playing the lute. The head of John Dowland by George Weigand is 100 % a " Fancy " ...
    All the best,
    Roger
