    Great video. Im 4 years late but still appreciate! I hate those cases! I have a black one and silver one. They do the job perfectly well but they are annoying to take apart and put back together lol

    I appreciate your efforts to make this video. Just got my hotspot setup. LOL! Just retired from teaching IT for 30 years at university. Thank you! 73, Jeff, K4MGM

    To connect using a mobile phone you have to use the pi's ip address in your mobile phones browsers then you can edit the pi settings on your mobile phone if you log into the pi on the pi it lets you different ways of logging in.

    hi thanks for posting as I was lost off to getting on to pi dash board as zero has wifi on board ... I worked it out with your help . cheers

    I believe you have the pi backwards in the case. The micro sd is supposed to go in the other hole on the other side of the case. The hole your using looks like the ribbon strip access port. Not to say that the other side is perfect but it also goes in

    I tried to yell through the screen that you put the pi board in the bottom case with the SD card slot on the wrong side, but you couldn't hear me. haha. At least you still got the SD card installed. :)

    The Pi 0 W I believes has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi! There is app you can get to use your cell phone. Think it is "VNC Viewer" there is a place in the Pi setup that turns on the VNC ON the Pi. Thank you for the information. I need to set one up soon. I have a repeater near but it has troubles sometimes.

    Came here mainly due to your Airstream tee shirt. It’s winter here and ours has been put away for the winter. Can’t wait to go get it in about 6 weeks. I am normally on HF (cw) but just picked up a D74 and am trying to figure out all this 21st century stuff.

    nice i built my own also but i used a dual antenna hat. also your pi is sitting the wrong way in the base. the micro sd cut out is the bigger one for easy install and removal ... no biggie just fyi. i built mine is 2019 and its still going strong just updated pi-star several times to keep it updated. luckily i can save the configs.

    I have the same monitors you do, if you pop the cover off and the back of the stand you can remove it completely so you don't have the giant plastic boot at the bottom.

    Good video for sure. I have a 5 and a dual band pi-star hat and this exceeds the capacity of the case metal case that came with the kit. Do you know of any kits that will accommodate the fan, antenna ports and all that for a 5, dual band hat AND fan? Thank you!

    The best download to use is the beta downloads. It is the one released 12/20/19. The others would not maintain a good WiFi connection.

    I know this is an old video, but thanks for all the info.. I plan to build my first MMDVM soon, as pis are starting to come back in stock.. Quick question, can I get the raspberry pi zero w WITH headers? I know they would come in contact with the olde's pins, but could i just cut the oled pins short, and cut the un-needed pi header pins?

      Hi. I am setting up my pistar, model MMDVM and came across this video. I took a moment to look over comments as they are also very informative. The radio I plan to use with the hotspot is the Anytone D878UV. A friend set it up for BrandMeister. I also want to use it for Turbo. I am curious how to do both and what progress you have made since your post. My call is N7NGM.

    Am I really the first to notice that the R-Pi is screwed in the base backwards? :p The slot the SD card was pushed through is for the camera... the other side has a bigger hole to lame removing the card easier :p

    • @jeffcotton526
      @jeffcotton526 5 лет назад +6

      Good catch! Yes he did install the Raspberry Pi board backwards on the base. I had to rewind to double check it.
      It's at the 9:45 time mark where I saw the semi-oval cutout for the microSD card.

    • @ToddHa
      @ToddHa 4 года назад +2

      i was wondering if anyone elese would catch that. I've put together several of these. It's rather easy to mix it up. But he didn't catch it. The in-dent on the real SD Card side is so one can more easily pull the card out. On the Camera side, it's impossible to pull the SD Card out of the slot.

      OASN: He said in the video that the RPi Zero W doesn't have Bluetooth. Actually, it does have embedded Bluetooth. Pi-Star doesn't use it. But it does have it built-in.

    Can you add more than one wi fi AP to a single hotspot so you can automatically connect to different networks while Mobile...Like while I am in my car it connects to my cell phone hotspot, but when I arrive at home I can shut my phone down and it connects to my home network automatically?

      At 21:20 he says that he's left that alone and will fill it in later. Might be that he didn't want to show it on camera. Or that he just didn't get around to doing it on camera.

    You would have saved time if you would have Read The Instructions! It amazes me that anyone, let alone an IT person would not read the instructions. On top of that you create a video to help others while not knowing what you we’re doing. When doing a video to help others you should know what’s what ahead of time. I don’t want to watch a video of someone stumbling in the dark not knowing what they are trying to teach. I knew you did not know what you we’re doing when you attached an HDMI to the MMDVM. No one does that because it’s not needed. You should be embarrassed.
