While looking out of my window this afternoon, I noticed a paralysed Wolf Spider being dragged across the lawn by a wasp. I knew that the wasp would look for a place to bury the spider, so I followed it. As expected, the wasp dug a small tunnel, inserted the spider, and then buried it alive.
Towards the end of the video, as the wasp fills the hole, it rapidly beats its abdomen against the gravel and some small rocks. I'm not exactly sure what this behaviour is. Perhaps egg-laying?

Strength of that wasp is unreal
That wasp is an ant worse nightmare
Even wasps get bothered by ants at their feast.
Let's rename this video Wasp vs little ants
The spider was still alive it will soon be eaten alive by the wasp larvae while paralyzed
Doubt it with all those ants. I think the wasp just gave the ants delivery.
wow it disposes of ants quick,,one ant leads to many in seconds ,so its gotta deal quickly with them,,amazing
Love how the wasp just takes it time bringing the spider back, if there is an ant nearby, he grabs a quick snack and continues the mission!!! So cool!
I think the wasp is trying to prevent the ants from getting to the spider.
ummmm do you not know that only females have children or lay eggs? I mean Im not trying to be rude at all here, just that my 6-year-old knows that only female creatures give birth or lay eggs so I'm wondering where you're from?
Wasp throwing the ants away from the spider
Insects ain't dumb. That vibration of the abdomen is designed to make sure the dirt and the pebbles are settled in nicely and won't just blow away.
And probably to make sure the ants don't get in.
Hell...the spider was eatin' up all the competition..
I've seen this scene play out with these pepsis wasp and huge wolf spiders. Always, it's either the spider loses or run as fast as they can out of their burrows to avoid the wasp. It's amazing how, after a millions years of evolution nature tells them "Don't bother, you can't win."
The Wasp compacts the soil when it vibrates it body over the hole it has dug .
I can’t believe the spider hasn’t evolved enough to at least fight back , and stick those huge fangs into the wasp???
I cant figure out why the spiders, regardless of species and of the wasp, dont fling web into the wasps face and try to tie its wings enough to slow it down.
After watching dozens of these wasp vs spider vids, none of the spiders seem to use their seemingly most effective defensive weapon.
hold 'er Newt, shes rearin' ? The only time I seen a spider kill one of these wasps was a Brazilian wandering spider, and the spider was just as aggressive if not more!!! Your right though you would think these spiders would give the wasp a much better fight??
Frank Rivera the poor spider wants to know what he did to piss off Mother Nature??
@@holdernewtshesrearin5471 I think the web slinging spiders stand a better chance than the wandering and jumping spiders
When a video starts out with a grave being dug, I know it's gonna be badass.
very clever building a tomb making sure it dont flood too
this is epic, wasp vs ants over spider
It lays its eggs on the spider inside the tunnel.. then buries it
wasps are GANGSTA
Yeah, I'm guessing that spiders and caterpillars prefer bees :-)
The rapid abdomen beats seem to be an effort to pulverize the ground and pack it down. Ovopositing all that time would seem unlikely.
GREAT SCENE!!!!
incredible the fight of this wasp! imagine just for a moment that you are the wasp, and you fight against those monsters !!! much better than darksouls in VR
greetings from spain!!
Great video! Wasp and hornets do so much to keep the numbers of spiders and various insects in check. I see so many videos of people killing wasp and hornet nest with shotguns, flame throwers, Raid. etc. Nature has a food chain in place to maintain balance. Thank you for not spraying the wasp, spider and ants with Raid and allowing us to see nature at work.
Tu viste no la mas grande no San Jorge no tamaño de una ojotas no estas yego a mi Pays enorme quicieron matarla y noce ay muchos en los Ríos en primavera de calor
Los camiones las traen cuando pasan por las fronteras
Poor spiders do not have a chance living with wasp getting them
It's normally the female wasps that paralyze the spiders so they can cut them open lay their eggs in them seal them back up and send them on so when the baby spiders hatch they can eat the spiders corpse
The moment she realize the hole was too small......x_x
It's a wonder those ants didn't just wait until the wasp had moved away from the site and then burrowed into the hole the paralyzed spider was in. The ants know where dinner is, they'll probably swarm over it if the wasp didn't pack down the entrance firmly enough. There is another video where the ants stole a paralyzed spider while the wasp was digging it's hole out, and then the wasp made the fatal mistake of wandering into an antlion's sand trap.
Wasp v ants more like...
Title should of been wasp vs ants 😂
Great footage.... for the books!
the wasp is known to paralyze spiders and dig whole to lay adn bury the paralyzed thing.
Yes, that's exactly what's happening in the video, though it's being interrupted by ants
Alternative tittle: Wasp vs Ants
And the lesson here is, if a wasp can accurately sting small, scurrying ants, then if it wants to sting you there's not much you can do about it. Thus, wasps generally don't want to sting people, because if they did we'd be covered in welts! 🙂
Are thier any videos where the spider actually wins...🤷🏾♂️
Given the speed and accuracy of the wasp's stings, I don't think the odds are in the spider's favor!

I'm assuming the widow eventually won but the guy must have gotten bored filming lol. Black widows are very successful killers.
I would like to see how it would fair off against a Sydney funnel web spider. I'll put my money on the spider. I don't think the wasp would stand a chance against a funnel web spider.
Is it just me ?! arnt spiders supposed to spin web ??? Why don't the spiders tangle them in web 🕸🕸🕸🕸🕸🕷🕷
Wow.... beautiful nature ❤️❤️❤️❤️
No battle. Bye.
Have nothing nice to say. Don't say it
@@kade651 Oh, mom, I'm sorry!
@@solcarzemog5232 cringe :/
Fascinating, looks like the ants want the spider too??
I'm sure that if the wasp moved away, the ants would have immediately tried to sneak away with the spider :-)
Wow amazing footage. Did the wasp put the paralyzed spider up on that plant to keep ants away, while it dug its burrow?
Lol more like wasp vs ants
The ants didn't fare to well either!
Didn’t see the actual battle. Skipped right to after the battle when the spider was toast.
Muy astuta es casa sus presas pero tiene alguien su adversario la más chikita la balitas roja tanvien se mete sus ydeas asen algo tremendo pone sus larvas sobre las suya y comen las de la San Jorge basen las costruydoras de lodo
Is the wasp consuming the ants that are close by or just killing them off? Great vid.
As far as I could tell, it was just trying to get rid of them so they couldn't steal the spider.
It looked as though it was eating them, but it's difficult to say for sure. They're very tiny so their little bodies might just be tossed aside and we can't really see.
...music would've been nice??
Nothing vs about it..
What does it do to the ants? They seem to disappear when the wasp get to them.
Some of them just run away, but I think others get kinda "flicked" away too.
Looked like she killed them and dropped them in the hole too
baby food
Wasps are horrible wee bastards, I would rather a spider took them out.
Poor spider kill all wasps!
We need to cal for Darwing how can nature teach wasp To do this
abdellatif jamal kanouni DNA! I guess!!
The ant disturb her :D
Let's go🤓😝😉👌👌😄😄😊😊I just seen all tht work!👌😬😄😊raw

Stupid title. We didn't get to see her kill the spider. That's what the videos mean when they have VS in the title. You should have said wasp taking her fresh kill to her nest. I hate titles that don't match the video.
wasp never killed the spider just paralysed it. When she buried it she laid an egg on it which will hatch and eat the spider alive underground. once the spider is dead an adult wasp will hatch from its dead body
Anything that kills spiders are great in my book!
I have kill more than 1000 wasps 😈
