Jump Rope Warm Up (Basic Bounce, +)

  • After doing some standard warm up exercises, I begin my jump rope workout with this. It runs about a minute and a half, starting with 50 reps of the basic bounce, followed by other standard moves, including various heel-toe maneuvers.
    When I first learned some trick jumps, I neglected the basic bounce. But I'm a big believer in building and maintaining solid fundamentals, so I make sure to always include it. Plus, it lets me get a feel for the rope, the mat, and the weather conditions I will be dealing with; which where I'm at, usually are not in my favor.
    This freestyle is part of my HIIT routine, which I designed to mimic a hockey game - intense bursts (shifts) of 45 seconds to a minute, with short breaks in between. I typically do 15 routines, though sometimes more, sometimes less.
