If you're shocked by Jim Cornette saying someone should die, then you're not a wrestling fan.
Jim wiped out the previous generation with his Russo shoot. It's an entirely new generation that haven't developed a thick skin or a sense of fucking humor or perspective or context that are all crying about him now.

Greatest thing about Cornette is that he does not one ounce back off from losers. He doesn’t apologize, he doesn’t recant, none of it. We need a lot more of this
A year late but yeah, Corny is fairly unique in that he has his opinions and they do not change and he won't back down from them. In 2022 that's a super respectable trait.

Don't always agree with Cornette. But I respect that he speaks his mind. I still think they should make a TV series about the territory days, kind of Jim Cornettes career meets kind of a Breaking Bad seedy underworld modern crime drama.

God dammit. That letter Got Me Harder Than You'll Know. My mom was diagnosed with cancer early last year. My brother attempted to take his life late last year. My mom lost her battle what cancer early this year. So I'm more than know how he feels. If it wasn't for Jim and Conrad, this last couple years would have been a lot rougher. Thank you guys. Anyone who’s anyone knows what was said, what was meant and what was not meant. It seems to be a case of either people hearing/reading what they want to in order to be ‘responsible for getting Jim Cornette fired’ or seeing trigger words and taking it from there.
Or maybe I’m just too old fashioned and ‘insensitive to current culture’ to recognise the potential effect his words have?
I understand the fact NWA felt obligated to address it, but assuming the call went the way Jim Cornette said it went, I’m disappointed that Dave Lagana appeared to take that hardline (“don’t do it again”) tone without looking into it first.
Lagana has to protect the company's interests. The conversation described by Jim was precisely Lagana looking into it. He did not fire Cornette based on people saying something, he said people were saying one thing, went to Cornette to get him for clarification and acted on the most likely explanation (which was Cornette's side) while making sure he knew the company's policy. I'd say he handled that pretty responsibly, as opposed to how WWE handled Enzo or how AEW handled the pyro guy.

I love Jim and don’t even get pissed when he rips on my favorite wrestlers. He does make valid points and not everything AEW and some other promotions does makes sense. Wether you agree or disagree with what he says, more times than not he’s right. Unfortunately this day and age, you can’t say anything about anyone especially when it comes to death. Jim. These people are doing everything on the internet, but they aren’t reading. Reading takes effort and a bit of focus. They might hear things from time to time and then jump to illogical conclusions confirming their biases, but they aren’t doing this reading thing.
I enjoy Cornette thoroughly and find his commentary refreshingly a bit offensive. It is too bad that his “all republican and Trump” related things are evil. I thought out of all people, Jim would recognize the foolishness in “all bad” or “all good” oversimplification. At this stage of describing the ultra complex nature of human behavior and motivation he would see that things are a bit more complex than these black and white labels. He normally pokes fun at the absurd small minded thinkers in wrestling who had to classify the complexities of the world in a preschool manner. I cringe when I hear his criticism of the right that often applies just as much, if not more, to the left.
The very fact that he has to apologize for being himself comes from the cancel culture and outrage mobs of the cry baby college kids on the left. His very people who scream “orange man bad” as loudly as he does. And you know where they got all this truth about the trump and the republicans...... they heard it on the internet. Kind of mind boggling hearing the usually powerfully logical Jim doing mental gymnastics.

There's a lot of nuance in Jim's repartee that quite possibly could go over some people's heads. I get most of it because he and I are sui generis. In the time I've been following him hes dropped names like Cedric Gibbons, Paddy Chayevsky, Lon Chaney Jr., Marty Feldman and many others. I knew who he was talking about because I was a fan of Old movies in general and Universal Horror movies in particular. And Comics. And Wrestling. So we share a frame of reference. Younger people in general and much younger people in particular might struggle to identify. Jim is one of the most talented entertainers I've run across. I think most of the people that get their feelings hurt by him revel in it as it gives them a reason to lash out against him. To the young'uns he represents the unknown, and fear of the unknown is a tangible thing. I may be wrong. I often am.
Sadly, the art of sarcasm has been lost in the last decade.

I have heard this twice, both times my eyes watered. This is a a great segment
I come back to this every now and then and I always fall apart in the same place, when he talks about how many people responded that they would be the guy that he could talk old wrestling with. That reaching out, people seeing people hurting and stepping up to do what they can so you dont have to lose that joy or go on alone without that piece of your life. That is the glory of humanity. And maybe it's just some old farts talking about better days gone by but it's something that means something to someone and that makes it worth doing. Nothing goes to the heart like seeing the goodness in people shine through when a hurt, lost person needs it the most.
We're all going to be on one side of that someday, the least we can do is be there for the people that already got there.

I do love the way you talk candidly and openly about all aspects of wrestling good and bad, past and present. Been listening for roughly a year and love the show, especially alot of the content you talk about is before I was born let alone before I started watching wrestling (in 1997) but those parts give me something to watch/research if I can't find footage. I'm an old school fan with more tolerance of the new school (AEW) than Cornette. From day 1 watching wrestling at 10 years old I knew wrestling was a work. It only heightened my enjoyment.
It was McMahon who killed kayfabe the Monday after the Montreal incident when he rechristened wrestling "sports entertainment", he pulled a Eddy Mansfied and basically explained it was all a work. What Omega or anyone else did is long after the fact. Until Cornette can call out McMahon with the same venom then it just doesn't line up. I'm tired of everyone in the business kissing McMahon's ass, in this case by default.
