Excellent video! Your demonstration is direct and to the point. No unnecessary chatter or pauses. I taught motorcycles mechanics for several years back in the day. I have made many videos, service manuals, developed many lesson plans and lecture presentations. Your video is as good or better than many of the factory training classes and seminars that I have attended. I have been retired since 2000 and had never worked on any 'RECENT" power-sports products until my brother asked me to service his Prairie. I watched several videos on this subject and none compare. You should do more. Kudos!
Great video, thank you very much! My 2003 Kawasaki Prairie 650 also had a very loud squealing sound from the KEBC actuator. I followed your procedure and now it runs better than new. However, when I had it apart, I noticed that the little gear on the motor shaft was not attached to the motor shaft. You could turn it very easily and the motor shaft would not rotate. Have you seen this and is it normal? Thank again. Paul
I deleted my kebc. It slows the atv down too much and makes terrible noises, I also read it was hard on belts. i put kit on that comes with block off plate and relay that plugs into ecm so gauges work correctly.
Hi! I have a Vacuum line on my 4x4 actuator (Prairie 650 2003) Could it be the problem of having to be moving forward for the 4WD to engage? It won't engage when im stopped. Thanks and grwnd videos!!
I have a 2005 Arctic Cat 650 V2 (Kawasaki engine). My KEBC Aculator is making weird noises, and my drive belts keep shredding. My mechanic says that the Aculator motor is going out and that I need to replace it. Is it possible that a simple cleaning would solve the issue, or should I order a new one? How can you tell if it's actually going out or not?
mine doesnt have the oring or circlip. do you know the proper orientation for the cap that had 3 screws? I should of watched your video before I dug into this
Really useful video, thanks! I have just bought a 2003 KVF 650 V-Twin KEBC and want to download the user manual for further maintenance needs, specifically to do my own oil change. Are the Prairie and the Brute Force the same vehicle? If not, which one do I have? AM really hoping you can help me here. The dealer charges a fortune to do the oil change and a bit of a tune up. Thanks!
Janet, the Prarie and Brute Force 650 are basically the same machines, at least the straight axle variations. Believe your's will be the Prarie variation at 2003. Here is a link to the oil change. ruclips.net/video/PeD9R_rcuGs/видео.html
If you are still answering, is it reasonable to assume most of the time dirt and crap and being dry is the reason they play up? My 2008 brute force 750 was working ok and it started doing the flashing thing 2WD then 4WD back and forth. I taped the motor a little and it seemed to stay in 4WD, next time I tried to switching back to 2WD it stated again with the flashing problem. But has always made the clicking and little motor noise when I turn it off, now its making no noise. I am wandering if it's probably just crap, and gone dry inside which is causing it, and just needs a good clean and grease!
When you say people tap on it? My 700 suddenly only clicked under seat when i went to start. Im no mechanic so i checked the solenoid, battery all the basic stuff. I was at a jamboree so i asked a guy that was. He tapped that thing and it fired right up. Do i need to replace this actuator or will this rebuild fix that? Seems like its the motor more than the gears if im not getting anything without the tap??? Help. Also great video man, subscribed!
Thanks for the comment! That's defiantly a strange scenario. I wouldn't expect that to have anything to do with it unless there is an electrical short somewhere. I'd try a good cleaning on the KEBC first, it'll be free minus your time.
Ok so i took the kebc apart thanks to this video. And its full of metal shavings... 😬 but all the teeth on the gears seem to be there so..... question is “rebuilding” all that i have to do is clean it and grease and put back together?
So if you don't put the cap over the magnet the way you took it off it won't work? Because now my 2-4wd light is flashing back and forth and it makes a weak noise
Does that unit have to be clocked a certain way when putting it back together or will it reset itself etc. Went into limp mode , so I reset it , now it makes a high pitched humming noise seems like it rotating around inside going crazy & stops for a few seconds then repeats , and 4wd-2wd flashing back and forth every 2-3 seconds ... is it 4wd actuator or an electronic controller causing this ?? Anyone have the solution ?? Thanks
@@appleapple4956 Yes , it was a customer's ATV that I was having hell with , I bypassed the whole electronic actuation system and installed a Sgroi Inno. manual engage system , that was over a year ago , and he has had ZERO problems with it , never went into limp mode again & 4WD works perfect !! 😎👍
Could you please tell me what the black rectangular box is that sticks out of the top of the case, inside it is a switch. has on and off marked, should the small lever inside the cover be in the on or off position, what should I flip it to when reinstalling after actuator removal and cleaning? I have moved it and can't remember how it was.
When I turn on the ignition I used to hear the EBC but recently I don't hear it and I also don't have 4 wheel drive, I put the 2 wheel drive switch into 4 wheel drive and nothing, no 4 wheel light on dash. Are the 2 problems connected?
Cleveland Matheson, wish I had more knowledge on the wiring on these. Although... If you're still feeling engine breaking then it's working. The 4x4 actuators are a common failure on the Kaw. If your not getting engine breaking, I'd definitely check fuses first as they may both be on that fuse. Please update this comment with your findings to help other enthusiasts like us.

There could be a number of issues from what I have read such as a pinched or broken wire, corrosion around the fuses or maybe mechanical.I don't have a repair manual to do a more thorough troubleshooting of the problem. It's probably a good investment to buy one since my 650 Prairie is a 2003.

great stuff, I just got a 2004 750 bruteforce and that gadjet always run when the battery is hooked up and switch is OFF? I was earing a dildo type of sound when the battery was in and I found that it is this actuator. I took it out and it keep turning when hooked up to harness what is the purpose of this? why is it always running? is there a limit switch inside that is defective? new to 4 weelers ;-)

James, appreciate the comment and means a lot coming from someone with your expertise!
Just giving credit where credit is due.
Good video. Might was chattering after it cycled. Cleaned it and greased it up. Works great. THANKS
Glad it helped, appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Great video. Thanks. I may tackle this as mine is looking very similar to yours.
Do you have a video to troubleshoot a flashing 4x4 light ?
Thanks
I recently bought a 360 prairie and it has a blinking 4wd light 1 second blinks. Manuel says it the actuator. The quad does not shift out of 1st gear
Thanks for all your great video’s they have been a big help!....NJ

you can remove the break lever itself inside the cover and extend your built life
I have a 2002 kawisaki prairie 650 and it’s stuck in 4x4 says 4x4 on dash to nothing happens when I press switch is that actuator or something else ?

Joe Brewer flip it to on, it’s the drive belt failure detection switch.

what kind of grease did you use?
