I bought 3 of these POS spouted cans 2 years ago. It was right before a hurricane when I need gas for my new generator. I can tell you I experienced more stress and frustration trying to operate these ridiculous spouts than dealing with the storm itself. Immediately bought replacement spouts and vent hole plugs from Amazon. Seeing you drilling the cans made me laugh out loud, bringing back the memory of when I did exactly the same thing in the same location on the cans. Great video, thanks for sharing. PS. You cursed those spouts a lot less than I did. :)
Eric, thank you, thank you, thank you! Your put to words exactly what I thought of this gas cap. I took all of 15 mins working with it and said, "Nope, I am going to google this and see what others think of it." Seeing you cut the locking base off freed my soul to do the same. I have already ordered the replacement spouts. Your short video made my day! Thank you again!
Thanks for sharing this. I used these cans for the first time last week and lost my mind trying to get the spillage to stop. Needed to know I'm not the only one lol
Thanks man, just ordered that kit, no clue how scepter is allowed to sell those cans with those nozzles, leaking nightmares, more dangerous now than the way they always were.
GREAT VID, thank you!! I have a Scepter can and the spout is far too short to fill my car and motorcycle. After seeing your vid, I immediately ordered the kit and I can now fill my vehicles without a cumbersome struggle. It was easy to install both spout and vent. I am a happy girl, thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I'm a 72-year-old woman with arthritic hands. I bought a brand new self-propelled mower, and a gas can to fill up the mower. When I got home and discovered there was no way I could take that cap off and push that green thing in, etc., I was so p.o.'d!! I have to wait for my son to visit to complete the modifications, as instructed per your video. That's okay, but he's not visiting till the end of May, so I here I sit with a brand new mower that I can't even operate. I hate that the government has decided I'm too stupid to put gas in a can, use it and store it safely. Thank you again. You are awesome!!
Thank you so very much for your video! You are 100% correct about the Septer gas can! I nor my wife can use the stupid gas can because we are both elderly. Thank you again!!

I just tried to use one of these for the first time 😂 to whomever "borrowed" all my BLITZ cans over the years, may your dog get the runs in the car forever
Aside from ease of use, you know what's missing from those red gas containers? A pressure release opening! I have no doubt that some GS whatever who lives in an urban apartment and never used a gas can was the designer. Under the right circumstances, such as a hot day and a half-full container, that's a nice 'splodie when the container is first opened. Thanks for the video--and the link to order the replacement parts.
It's not a very good spout for a 5 gallon can, I totally agree. Leaves you wrestling the can with one hand while the other is tied up keeping the spout open. But I have had good success with them on the 1 and 2 gallon cans. I actually kinda like them for lawnmowers
This is right to the point! I totally agree with everything said about this useless spout...need to have a book with instructions to utilize this...just replaced three and feeling so much better about a usable functioning gas can....I had a five gallon one trying to put it into a riding mower so heavy so hard! ...can this company even be in service any longer?
I absolutely loved your video! It conveyed my sentiments exactly. I was looking for a solution for this problem over a year ago and thank God you posted this video. Luv it!!!
I just purchased two of these to replace the previous “improved” safety jugs. I wish I didn’t. These are worse than the ones I replaced. I wonder if the people that design these ever try to use them. I’ll be ordering the old style snouts you showed. Thankyou👍
The first time I used one of these I spilled near half the can on the ground. I got a different kit as it didn't have everything you had, but it worked for me and I tossed those crappy nozzles in the trash.
The EPA most certainly DID address this. They eliminated the simple nozzle and vent that work and mandated the current abominations we must suffer with. The Government is your friend and has your best interests at heart 🤮
You are correct I’ll be screwed up. Gas cans are because of California and the carb compliant. Is the California air quality board? I have the ones with the spring in the spout. I have a lot of Springs laying around now because I take them completely out you can pull the spout up and see you later you can push the little lover in and drop it down when you wanna pour. It’s amazing how fast the gas comes out when you were able to open up a vent on the backside actually for not dribble out all over the place.
Thank you! I freaking HATE the spouts on these cans. Wasn't sure which spout to buy. To make matters worse, the Costco by me got new "special" pumps and they would not fill these cans. Even the guy working at the pumps couldn't figure out why I could not fill up the cans. Ends up, it was that stupid filter thing inside the can, had to pull that out and now I can fill the can with gas but will get the replacement spouts you recommend so I can pour out of the can. What a total joke. Thank you again for your help
I totally agree I have been calling this thing stupid all morning. Gas leaks all over and I can't even get the light green part to push forward. It worked once and never agaiñ
The government’s “solution” was to exacerbate the problem. I spill more gas now with these new nozzles than I ever did before with the old nozzles. Now I just remove the nozzle altogether and splash gas in (and around) the fuel tank on my lawn mower and generator.
Thank you for posting these. I didn't know what replacement spout to get that would fit these cans. After the blackouts in Texas 2 winters ago, I bought a generator and 2 of these gas cans. They work OK to fill the generator but too slow and awkward to fill the car (when switching out old gas for new). I totally understand the idea behind the new spouts but they were designed badly.
It takes 2 people to pour gas out of the 5 gallon cans. One hand to lift, one hand for the ridiculous green flip and push valve and one to tip the can. And yes it leaks. It weighs too much not to keep a hand on the top handle when pouring or the nozzle will probably snap off.
"Shitastic caps 3:37 " LOL! I like it. I bought two of the two gallon Sceptor PsOS for kerosene heater use. I can make it work with a funnel, but it's a slow pita, and best requires help to hold funnel. Been looking at fixes to eliminate or hack the shitastic caps. The all-inclusive kit seems pretty good. Thanks for vid.
@@alexleanh I've watched many videos on the cans, doesn't change the fact that Sceptor gas cans are nothing but Shheeit. Already received the retro fit kits, (different seller), and within a short time, they will be converted to useful easy to use cans with zero Rube Goldberg parts. Those are headed to the trash. Just an fyi, primary reason for these Sheeit cans was not to make them "child proof" but EPA regs on gas and fume release. So I won't be watching either link, a waste of time and bandwidth.
I pulled that strainer out of the can. It was a pain to do and you can very easily drop it back into the can if you're not careful. I'm adding vent plugs today. I'll take your advice and replace the spouts. I hate the ones that come with the can.
I feel fortunate as I still have four of the older style 25 liter Sceptre gas cans with the straight long spout. The only problem with them is the black sealing washer, which tend to wear out over time. I bought some off Amazon but they were wrong and wouldn't fit. Now I salvage them off old plastic tanks headed to the dump when I can find them.
Great idea. I'm heading to amazon to get some of these. These cans are not only garbage but potentially very dangerous. I purchased one of these brands of cans (1 Gal) for my 2-cycle weed trimmer to use for mixing the gas and oil. It's the first new gas can I've purchased in about 20 years. The dangerous part is these cans do not vent. I was working on my property (no shade) and had the can with me. With the sun hitting the can basic physics tells you that things expand when heated. When I went to put gas in my trimmer the pressure shot gas all over. Glad I was at least wearing safety glasses. Once again this is the first time using these garbage cans. I never had to worry about this with my old cans. Of course now that the can has cooled down it has collapsed. What a piece of shit.
Yeah everytime I looked at them sitting in that 100deg garage of mine I thought, "That's a house fire waiting to happen. Stupid little bombs. Insurance company will have a hay day."
these new can are made to keep women safe, but women can't use these cans at all, cuz you need X3 three hands to operate them, how idiotic is that ?? Every new law and product is being designed with the woman in mind, but the ladies are still doing anything any way, so why bother to put women in that special class of risk-free feminists.
Oh my god I have a bunch of these cans and those spouts I can’t figure out how to use on the car, glad you have this helping folks out! What was Scepter thinking, or more like who was paying Scepter to go this route over a better solution
That’s why I’m here though, I searched and couldn’t find anyone using a scepter nozzle on a car tank. Well scratch that I did see someone jimmy rig a funnel to an accordion hose and then pour into that, but that’s not possible in an emergency.
okay i have not tried this for cars, but I mostly use smaller 2 Gal for lawn mower. I agree operating those flip and push can be hard.. But so far working fine. I will look out for leaks.
Very nice. The only thing people may want to consider when drilling for that vent is to not drill the hole right on the seam where the two halves of the can are connected together. It creates a weak point and could potentially start to split and/or leak. Drill it off to one side or the other. The vent doesn't need to be centered. Spot on with the closing scene, those things are garbage!
I have similar gas cans with different but just as shitty nozzles, one of which the gas will not even come out. I also find that on these gas cans with shitty nozzles & no vent that when the can has gas in it & it gets hot in the summer the cans start bulging out which I assume is because there is no way for the vapors to escape. I have no problem with the old school cans with the nozzle and vent in the cans like the ones you put on. Thanks for the link have to trash the shitty nozzles I have too.
This is the best video ever. I literally just bought one of the 1 gallon cans for my weed eater. I couldn't figure how to fucking work it out so I just took the spout off and poured it in with a funnel. What a piece of shit.
I have said more curse words and profanity when using these new "safety" fuel cans than just about any other time in my 53 years of living. I HATE THEM! They are awkward and slow and cause you to spill fuel every time! I installed the same spout on mine and works great now.
I have both wavian and this one these are good if ya want to stop filling fast where as the wavian is non stop. So I use my wavian to fill my gas tank works like a dream but my generator that is mounted on my cameper the wavian will fill it up fast but won't slow down majority of the time the spector works and over 2 years same jug. Having the best of both words and using them for what I like them for at least they get used not sitting there. 😊
Ah that's good to hear that they're working for ya. You're a rarity, my friend. These things kick most people's butts, mine included 😅. btw - kickass screen name 👊😄
My dad gave me his because he couldn't make it work. You need to be pretty strong and coordinated to push and hold all this stuff all at once. Only young people need apply. I couldn't make it work either. Thanks!
i love these replacement nozzle. i got mine off amazon several months ago. just been waiting to get new cans. i got 4 new plastic jerry cans. and my nozzles weren't as evil as yours. still went in the trash. new nozzles went in perfect. i removed the white screens out of the cans as well. i ordered 2 more cans cause i had 6 nozzles. funny that the original shipper all of a sudden would not ship to me. so i ordered 2 more from somebody else on amazon. silly store rules, i don't know why. so now i have 6 5gal. jerry cans ready to go, and i don't have to deal with CA stupidity.
Turn an empty can upside down and hit the can to drive the vent shavings to the filler hole and put a vacuum cleaner hose over the filler hole and suck any lose debris out.
Thanks for your video to show folks how to repair their gas cans to make them actually work and be useable again and for some decent nozzles to buy. Who would have thought we would have a simple gas can, be federal govt regulated into being so bad, that they are nearly unusable. All in the effort to force in dirty battery vehicles, made from dirty mining of minerals, by poor Chinese people, and other poor countries. All to be used on our grid that cannot support charging millions of them. Without enough power plant capacity there is no way to fuel these dirty batteries. Without infrastructure, like enough power plants, and millions of miles of electrical lines needed for charging stations, stations that are needed every couple hundred miles. Too bad they have regulated so many of our power plants into shutting down, so that now most states have lost their 20-30% extra capacity that is needed in our just normal conditions. Much less the massive load that charging millions of these things will require, otherwise we would be in a permanent blackout if they were. Its laughable, if it wasn't so serious. The emissions regulations they have put on the internal combustion engine are unmeetable, and soon we will have no choice in vehicles, unless something is done. I can deal with a battery weed-eater or chainsaw. A vehicle is a no go though, unless your so wealthy you can buy new ones rapidly, every few years. The value of a used DC powered vehicle will be very, very low as it should be, with worn out, non replaceable, dirty, non disposable batteries.
You ain't wrong about any of that. I'm convinced this rapid decline of literally everything is by design. Us non-elites eventually not being able to afford transportation (i.e. freedom of movement) is no accident. I can't hate the government enough... On the other hand my hands are tied as I've a family to worry about and I've never found enough people with enough nuts to do the necessary work to make the correct change. Nobody wants to get their hands dirty. Everyone thinks they can still vote their way out of this bullshit. Americans have forgotten that danger is what makes freedom free.... ooph... I feel a soapbox coming on😆. Maybe in another video! Better quit while I'm ahead right now though! Thanks for watching and commenting!
It seems all of these over-engineered newfangled gas cans to be messier than the simple original ones. While I appreciate the idea of preventing fuel leaks and dangers these complicated designs seem to make them more likely.
I was OK with that piece of garbage of a spout the first few times on my Scepter gas can. But now I can't even use it. So I have to unscrew it and pour the gas in a funnel to fill the mowers. I also vented my gas can by putting a pinhole in the top of the handle to release the pressure. I JUST ORDERED ONE OF THESE KITS SINCE I GOT SEVERAL GAS CANS WITH CRAPPY SPOUTS ON THEM INCLUDING MY SCEPTER 5 GALLON CAN.
Checking into the anti-EPA replacement nozzles after getting bith hands soaked to pour 3 cups in the mower. Just stupid "safety" switch on them. Let alone the amount of force it takes to push the button in.
Those BS nozzles almost left me stranded in the middle of the woods. Spring was jammed on the inside and it wouldn’t engage. Sacrificed a lot of gas with a funnel but made it home. Total garbage
I think it will be a little bit easier for you when drilling the hole if you drill clockwise , you were struggling because you were drilling counter-clockwise .
( at first I had Trouble with it ! Most important it has a snail cover, those buggers can cause lots problem s , go in you're gas tank and plug it up !)
I'm talking about the protruding nipple that old style gas cans had on their vent caps. Too bad the new ones don't come with those. The flush vent is my biggest concern about a retrofit.
Oh ok - took me a second but I remember what you're talking about now. But so far, no, although these are flush fit, I haven't had problems with them leaking. And it's been almost two years since I've installed them. That said, I've not had them knocked or tipped over much.

Ordered then kit for $9.95. Replacing the nozzle and adding a vent to old cans with Shittastic spouts. Thanks for the solution.
just got my kit....Scout King....cant wait to fix my cans!
Thanks you! So frustrating. 5 full cans, 4 from home depot, 1 at costco. I'm going to use your method and empty them and try to return.
I've been trying to get gas of my can for a while that crazy nozzle and I can't get it off to switch it what a pain in the ass invention !!!!
Just what I was looking for .....THANKS !!!
I always wondered why poring gas all over my lawnmower is considered safer…
This is the best video ever. I literally just bought one of the 1 gallon cans for my weed eater. I couldn't figure how to fucking work it out so I just took the spout off and poured it in with a funnel. What a piece of shit.
I did the same until my old man laughed at me and showed me how to use it. It's still a POS
I'm glad I hung on to my old, easy-to-use gas cans. They go for a fortune on e-bay.
I just orders 8 kits (the three-packs) --Thanks for the link!
Ordered some today. Thank you for your video!
You can reach in with needle nose pliers and remove those plastic flame arrestors. Make it much easier to fill them at the pump.
Thanks for including the link!!
My dad gave me his because he couldn't make it work. You need to be pretty strong and coordinated to push and hold all this stuff all at once. Only young people need apply. I couldn't make it work either. Thanks!
I can’t figure it out…and yeah, gas is too expensive to let it leak everywhere
i love these replacement nozzle. i got mine off amazon several months ago. just been waiting to get new cans. i got 4 new plastic jerry cans. and my nozzles weren't as evil as yours. still went in the trash. new nozzles went in perfect. i removed the white screens out of the cans as well. i ordered 2 more cans cause i had 6 nozzles. funny that the original shipper all of a sudden would not ship to me. so i ordered 2 more from somebody else on amazon. silly store rules, i don't know why. so now i have 6 5gal. jerry cans ready to go, and i don't have to deal with CA stupidity.
Man they ARE the best😅!
Hi, just tried to use 1 of these smart cans, and it was very irritating to say the least. Where do I get a better yellow nozzle kit?
you remember when those old metal gas cans existed with the ball valve nozzles that you had to rotate 180 degree's to open?
😯 oh! I don't!
I JUST ORDERED ONE OF THESE KITS SINCE I GOT SEVERAL GAS CANS WITH CRAPPY SPOUTS ON THEM INCLUDING MY SCEPTER 5 GALLON CAN.
just ordered the kit....thankyou!
I be gettin some of these soon for my old cans that suck!!!!!!
Checking into the anti-EPA replacement nozzles after getting bith hands soaked to pour 3 cups in the mower. Just stupid "safety" switch on them. Let alone the amount of force it takes to push the button in.
Just soaked my hand and my shoe, stupid, ridiculous POS spout will be replaced tomorrow! Thank you @E_from_KS
thanks for the video, just subscribed
Drill a small pilot hole first and the correct bit won't wobble around.
☝️☝️ absolutely
I thoroughly enjoyed this review!!!! Sh**tastic....I was cracking up! And yes, these cans are horrible!!!
My type of dude. Cussing and getting ish done... #Salute
Awesome video - thank you!
Very nice. We have one of those exact 5 gallon cans at work and I fucking hate it so much
These complicated "safety" spouts look fragile. First time they fall over or take a hit you have a bad leak. Safety?
Those BS nozzles almost left me stranded in the middle of the woods. Spring was jammed on the inside and it wouldn’t engage. Sacrificed a lot of gas with a funnel but made it home. Total garbage
Why not just unscrew the cap that you use when you put gas in the can, then pot into the funnel?
I think it will be a little bit easier for you when drilling the hole if you drill clockwise , you were struggling because you were drilling counter-clockwise .
I laughed as soon as you showed that crappy gas can. That's what I'm working with. Yeah I gotta upgrade. Pouring gas should not be a project.
Your right, total hot garbage! My company bought one. It took 20+ minutes to pour 5 gallons into a truck!
( at first I had Trouble with it ! Most important it has a snail cover, those buggers can cause lots problem s , go in you're gas tank and plug it up !)
Biggest POS spout I have ever used! But not anymore got the replacement today!
For the cans like yours lacking a boss for the vent caps, have you found the flush vents to leak at all, or are they airtight?
Sorry the late reply - I just saw your comment. But what was that: lacking what?
These vents haven't leaked at all, they do seem airtight.
That's great to hear, thank you.
It's snowing and I no longer have time for those shitastic spouts! I feel your irritation and thank you for the solution and laughs!
Thanks this helps a lot!
Thank you! I have spilled more gas with this POS safety can than with any old school can I own..
