$12 Ferry Ride in the Philippines 🇵🇭 Bacolod to IloIlo

  • No Trip in the Philippines is complete without a ferry boat adventure! Today I took a short ferry ride from Bacolod to IloIlo for the cost of $12.00 USD (or 660 PHP). This seemed like a great bargain compared to flying, and really didn't seem to be much slower.
Along the way I had a couple snacks and ran into someone who recognized me, which I always enjoy! The ride was smooth and mostly uneventful, but a nice ride nonetheless.
Afterward, I walked to my hotel and got my first glimpse of IloIlo, the city of love here in the philippines. My first impressions were great, the city is beautiful, full of color, and friendly people!
On the way to my hotel I spotted some street food and managed to snag myself some quality BBQ. The people there were very friendly, polite, and accomadating. Also, the food was amazing! I love chorizo.
After that, I took a quick walk to my hotel and checked in. I was surprised by the quality of the hotel, because I had only paid $27.00 a night, and felt I got more than my money's worth.

I'm from Los Angeles and I'm 4 years shy from retirement. Thinking of retiring in the Philippines. I could probably live with $ 10-15 dollars for food and I don't mind eating barbeque all the time. I'm flying this May for a three week vacation to Boracay, Cebu and Siargao. Can't wait to experience the food scene in Cebu. Last time I was in Cebu was 2007. I've been watching your videos from you early Bagiuo days. Safe travels brother!

Trivia: the men of Iloilo are also famous for being one of the best war fighters in the world. They are the bravest. As for the women, they like dressing up and if they are well-to-do with uniformed servants, they go around in posh outfits and posh shoes and bags. Ilonggos are a proud people and very highly educated. Thanks Tater for your narrative. I love the BBQ!!

AH DEAR SIR! YOU ARE IN MY HOME TERRITORY BACK WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, GRADE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL, AH! BRINGS BACK MEMORIES. BACOLOD TO ILOILO & BACK FERRY RIDE WAS ONLY 2 HRS. BUT YOUR BOAT RIDE LOOKS DIFFERENT ALREADY FROM THE ONES I USED TO RIDE. MY FAMILY HAILS FROM THE VISAYAS, BACOLOD CITY & ILOILO CITY WAS OUR HOMETOWN SPAN, YES ACROSS THE WATER BCOZ BACOLOD IS IN ISLAND OF NEGROS, OCCIDENTAL SIDE, WHILE ILOILO IS IN PANAY ISLAND. IFU NOTICE, NEGROS ORIENTAL SIDE IS CLOSE TO ISLAND OF CEBU CITY SO THOSE WHO LIVE IN ORIENTAL SIDE SPEAK CEBUANO DIALECT, WHILE THOSE OF US IN OCCIDENTAL SIDE SPEAK ILONGGO JUS LIKE PEOPLE IN PANAY ISLAND, IN ILOILO. GOES TO SHOW HOW CIVILIZATION WAS REALY MORE OF WATER "BORNE" IN EXCHANGE & MIX. MY BROTHER WHO HAS FREQUENTED MINDANAO (THATS FURTHER SOUTH) WAS SURPRISED TO FIND A TOWN WHERE THE DIALECT THERE WAS ILONGGO! MEANING THE PEOPLE WOULD CROSS THE WATERS & CONNECT! AHAHAHAAAAA! JUS LIKE IN ANCIENT TIMES I GUESS. AM GLAD TO HAVE STUMBLED UPON YOUR VLOG. I CAN SEE YOU ARE A FUNNY GOOD HEARTED AMERICAN. I' VE HAD PLENTY AMERICAN FRIENDS WHEN I GOT MARRIED & MOVED TO WHERE I'VE BEEN RESIDING IN LUZON, WHERE MANILA IS LOCATED, AS IN MY COMMUNITY THERE'S BEEN PLENTY OF AMERICANS WHO WERE LIVING HERE BEFORE, AS ITS CLOSE BY THE SCHOOL FAITH ACADEMY, IN VALLEY GOLF AREA NEARBY & WHERE AMERICAN MISSIONARIES SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. AH! I ENJOYED YOUR CHATTING & HEARING YOUR "FAMILIAR" AMERICAN SOUND OF SPEAKING. TAKE GOOD CARE SIR, I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE ENJOYING YOURSELF. BE CAREFUL THOUGH, IT ISN'T IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE YOU MIGHT COME ACROSS WHO COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU BEING A FOREIGNER, FILIPINOS ARE FRIENDLY, GOOD & HOSPITABLE YET OUR COUNTRY IS JUS LIKE ANY OTHER COUNTRY, THERE'S GOOD & BAD, IT ISN'T PERFECT, THERE'S NO PERFECT COUNTRY & NO PERFECT GOVT. MAY GOD KEEP YOU STRONG & ABLE TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE & YOUR ENDEAVORS, YOU ARE FORTUNATE SIR, YOU GET TO GO AROUND & VLOG, IT IS SO HER & NOW IN TECHNOLOGY OF OUR MODERN WORLD! MAY GODLY WISDOM LIGHT & GUIDE, AS YOU EXPERIENCE MORE OF YOUR GOD GIVEN LIFE. ALELUAH!

Wake up time 3am. 4 am earliest bus schedule to Bacolod City, an hour trip. The earliest trip to Iloilo City then was 6 am. By 7 am, I'll be in Iloilo. 8 am, breakfast in Lapaz for an Ilonggo favorite "Batchoy". 9 am do my errands, buy some Iloilo delicacies for my family in Negros Occidental and cool myself in SM. 11 am I should be on my way to Tatoys restaurant. 1 pm I should be back to the port terminal for the 2 pm trip back to Bacolod City. 3-4 pm I'll should be in the bus terminal for my trip back to my small town. 5-6 pm, I should be back enough time for one basketball game or some time with family and friends before dinner. That was my last trip before heading for the States 20+ years ago. I missed Iloilo City a lot. The place I grew up and knew every inch of the city. I don't think I can do that, with the land marks keeps changing.😀
