That's a real shame. I was thinking about getting one of these. I think I might stick to my OEM modded Saturn pad. I replaced the board in the inside & it does pretty much the same thing but you have original OEM parts.
The Mid-Geek Crisis yes same here, i had the same issue as you, I emailed RetroBit and they were more than willing to send out a replacement controller, they didn’t even ask for the first one back which surprised me, the new one works perfectly thankfully

I was wondering what you ended up doing with these? Did you end up just trying to fix them yourself or send them back?
I did a follow up and repaired them. But.. I did message Retrobit and they sent me new ones.
