These older videos are so cool. Your newer videos may be more sophisticated but there is something special about these early Tractor Time with Tim videos. Thank you for keeping them on the channel.
Tim I just started watching your videos. They were so good that I figured I would start from the beginning and watch them all. Love the family is involved . very entertaining and informative.
Thanks! Really appreciate it! Lots of change in our situation over the last 6 years. Will be watching for your comments on the various videos as you work through them!
your dad is providing you with a great agriculture beginning. And you are lucky to learn how to drive a tractor as a teenager! also a mom, to teach you how to cook!!
Tim, looking back on you first video from over 5 years ago. Comparing that with where you are now. I think an interesting video would be a reflection of what you were thinking when you first decided to upgrade to a subcompact tractor, thoughts on what your plans were, how those plans have changed, how they have stayed the same, and what your plans for the future are. In these uncertain times, I think it would be interesting and comforting to others to hear how nobody can know the future, but with faith and hard work your dreams can be realized. Hope all is well with you and your family. Jason Huser
+Gordon Hughes Well, you've hit a weak spot with these narrow tractors. Since it is only 4 ft wide, it doesn't do really well on slopes. My best example of this is in this video: ruclips.net/video/or_yjaPU8HM/видео.html watch closely when I'm packing the soil on the slope. Notice that the left rear wheel becomes very 'light'. Of course, this is a pretty steep slope. If not running a mid mount mower, you can put spacers inside the rear wheels to spread them out a bit. However, for my uses, I like the narrow tractor. There are always compromises. I would recommend you drive one on the dealer's lot. try it out on some slopes there. You'll be able to tell how well it can handle them. Thanks for watching our videos!
I really like this set up...in fact I just bought an XB to run behind my 1025r. I was just wondering if you guys had to trim the pto shaft that comes with the XB or was it an acceptable length already?
Thanks for the quick reply. The shaft already looks short to me but I'm guessing it may still have to be shortened just a bit. I've watched a few how to videos so that might be a project I tackle in the near future. Of course I need to find time to hook it up and do some measuring first and try not to make the same mistake the previous owner of your tiller did.
Why did you go with a king kutter, instead of a John Deere tiller? Is there a huge price difference? Is the performance of the King, better over all than the Deere tiller? I just bought a brand new 2016 JD 1025r subcompact with a 60" mowing deck, a back hoe, and a loader. I'm needing to start getting my area for my garden ready. Any advice would be awesome. Great video, thanks so much. 😃🚜😎
+Tmac Tmac I chose the KK because of price. I think most of the tillers are fine. Deere, Frontier, KK, County Line, Caroni, etc. I don't hear ANY complaints about ANY brand of tiller. Everyone seems to love their rear mount tiller, and we are all quite surprised at how good of a job they do. If you decide on King Kutter, you have a further decision. King Kutter II or King Kutter XB. I chose the XB because it is 'centered' behind the tractor (rather than offset). The negative is that the XB is not quick-hitch compatible without some custom effort. One more piece of advice if you are making a garden in your yard. I would recommend spraying the area with roundup, then waiting ~2 weeks before tilling it. This will make it much easier to till, and it will keep you from fighting grass in your garden all summer. Once killed with Roudup, the grass won't keep coming back.
Hey guys, love y'all videos, I have the exact same tractor..lol...so I'm watching a lot to get ideas. One thing I wanted to ask is if you could do a nice video of just how to put on and take off the roto tiller. I just got one and it's the first rear pto implement I have. Just thought since you had same tractor would be really helpful and any hints . Thanks ! The cajun
Yep, not trivial to hook up the tiller without a quick hitch. Lots of pulling, twisting etc. A quick hitch solves most of that. Just back in...almost all the way, then hook up the pto. Then, back in the rest of the way, pick up the 3 pt/quick hitch, and off you go. very straightforward.
Mine is operated with the joystick which is fine but I have to disconnect the tilt/curl valve for the bucket in order to raise and lower the mower. I'm looking for a diverter valve system so I can just push or pull a valve in order to switch between the two. Maybe one of your viewers has done the same thing.
+Brian Balmes Deere has the 'independent lift' option available to you. Of course, you could go back to the 'mechanical lift' which uses the 3 pt. really no disadvantage to it.
Brian Balmes To expand on this a bit more, there are 3 different lift options. 1) 'mechanical lift via 3 point'. This is standard. 2) hydraulic lift via loader ~$400 I think. This is what you have, and 3) independent hydraulic lift which I think is $600 more than what you have (or maybe it is $600 total including what you have, not sure). Lots of discussion about this online. My personal opinion is that there is no good reason to choose anything but option 1. I never use my tractor to do anything with the 3 pt while the mower deck is on anyway. I learned my lesson this (watch the 'homemade sod-cutter' video).
I'm looking at a 4R now. I'm not sure but I think my property, and my garden, might be larger. I have 8 acres of lawn to be mowed and 2 acres of garden.
+Tractor Time with Tim Yes. That's what we do now. It's actually four 2.5 acre properties. My family owns two of the plots, and my neighbor owns the other two. I've been treating the whole thing as a lawn and mowing it with a Craftsman GT5500 with a 54" deck. It does ok, but it takes 4-6 hours. My other consideration is that there is some rough terrain because there is a hill in my yard(s) and Mississippi clay and the rainy season tend to create washouts and ruts. So a large TLB and a medium flex wing finishing mower would be very nice for the mowing and general property maintenance. Some implements to manage the garden would be nice as well because right now the 2 acres of garden is managed with a front tine walk behind tiller and hand tools. What do you think? Is that more than I'll need, less than I'll need? What would you do?
+Go Away the 4 series is a bit out of my area of expertise. I don't know how much more expensive it is, nor how much maneuverability you will lose. I'm sure the 3046r would do the job. 5-6' tiller would be fine on it. I'm not sure of the HP requirements on the large finish mowers. Are you thinking 15'? Or 12' I'm sure the 3046r would handle 12'. I would suggest asking the dealer for a try out of the 3046r on the mower you want to use. They might even have a used 3720 (same thing) which you could try.
Can you comment on "the bumble bee"? Do you have the fuel delivered? What kind of pump are you using? I'm so tired of carting 5 gallon cans in the back seat of the car!
+gdsmit1 yes, please look through our other videos. We have a review including price details for the shelter logic shed in this video, along with the pole barn we built to replace it. I'm not near a PC now. Let me know if you can't find the relevant videos.
You'll have to make that decision. When I first thought of purchasing a tiller, I didn't think I could justify it to the finance committee (of which Christy is chair person). So, I found this one used on craigslist. I've been very happy with it so far. From everything I read and hear from others, it seems that EVERYONE is happy with their tiller, no matter what brand they choose. Thanks for watching. We have several other tilling videos. You can see the KK XB exercised in a variety of situations. A couple of them quite challenging and demanding on the tiller.
Young lady, Did you really address a man, at least 3-times your age by his first name, as though you regard him as your equal, your buddy? You have no more respect for your elders than that? You are a brat! I would be ashamed of my grandkids if I saw them show such disrespect.
Bob was indeed my buddy. I considered him one of my best friends - and I think that's the reason why I was able to learn so much from him. We had a special relationship. I was able to help him with some of the manual labor that he didn't feel like doing, and he showed me how to grow all sorts of plants. For me, calling him Mr. C... or something like that would've made our relationship so formal that neither of us would have enjoyed the hours we spent working together, and he wouldn't allow me to call him that anyway. I respected him so much that I even chose a college and major based on his advice and mentorship. I miss him dearly every day, and look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. Thanks for watching!
Brian Meister You need to get over yourself and learn some humility. 1 Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." Children can set an example for others by acting virtuously. This young lady could show you a thing or three. Matthew 18:10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." Shame on you for going on here attacking a young girl Brian. Young Lady don't listen to bitter old grumpy men that feel the need to attack others to feel good. Your response was classy and wonderfully put.🙏🏼
Just came across your video because I'm considering the purchase of the 1025. I think it's great that you had such a good relationship that you called your friend by his first name. Don't let some old fogey prevent you from doing so. That's what friends do.
