    i mean, you CAN say that michael oliver is "generally good but had a bad game" until you think about it and realise that it's the same michael oliver who gleefully gave gabriel martinelli TWO yellow cards for a single run of play (something i have yet to see be repeated). and then you remember that, last year, the same michael oliver steadfastly refused to give kovacic a second yellow card when he slid in and took out odegaard because he'd just gotten his first yellow a few moments prior and he didn't want to "alter" the game.
    and then you also happen to remember that it was this same michael oliver who was flown over to the UAE and paid a handsome sum to "referee a league game" DURING AN EPL SEASON. and you end up saying, "hmmmmmmmmm."

Same happened to Liverpool last year and if the points they had lost due to bad refereeing decisions had counted they would have won the Premier League. Remember the Premier League allows Premier League referees and VAR officials during the season to go to the UAE, the country of Man City owners, to get paid lots of money to referee games and go to conferences. Surely this should not be allowed as this is a conflict of interest and effectively open bribery. If Prem refereeing are earning more money doing football gigs in the UAE, surely this creates a bias towards Man City.

    I don't have a problem with the red. I have a problem with how quick Michael Oliver was go give them. Oliver refereed this same fixture last season when we won 1-0 and he could have sent Kovacic off twice, but he CHOSE not too. City fans said "oh, he's letting the game go on, it would have ruined the game". Now that it happens to Arsenal it's a "definite red" with no room for leniency.

    It's such a shame that a game of this magnitude, with that brilliant first half, is spoken through the lens of refereeing and not the game itself. Arteta was spot on, I thought, in his presser, that not a single question was actually tactics-related. And also, big thanks for speaking some sense on the matter, as opposed to the ever PGMOL-glazing Sky

  • @JasonRennie

    "It's a foul..." Not according to MO's earlier judgement. Haaland pushed Partey in the back with two hands while Partey was trying to head the ball. No foul. That Haaland push showed no intention to contest the ball and used hands in a blatantly illegal way. Once you ignore something like that, players will rightly assume that they have wide latitude to contest headers. MO was making up rules as the game progressed.

    Last season Arsenal home game against Man City Arsenal were told by PGMOL that Mateo Kovacic was not sent off in the first-half last season because Michael Oliver “didn’t want to ruin the game”.

  • @shawnchong8468
    @shawnchong8468 Месяц назад

    To me, the PGMOL has been gulity of trying to influence the outcome of the Arsenal games over the past 3 seasons. This is not an unfounded allegation. Every team in the league has practically been exposed to comtentious refeeeing decisions over the course of the season. However, it is practically week in week out for the Arsenal. When this perpetually happens to a particular club, then it is not normal. In the Brighton game, Declan Rice did not in anyway impede the restart of the game. A free kick cannot be taken from a moving ball. Yesterday, the Leandro Trossard second yellow should not have been brandished by Michael Oliver. I do not think that Trossard is aware that a foul has been given against him for his nudge on Bernando Silva. Hence, he continued playing to clear the ball.
    The two scenarios only exhibit the fact that the referee is trying to find every opportunity available to send an Arsenal player off the field. Over my years of watching British football, I came to the conclusion that the no known PGMOL has an unjust bias against Arsenal FC. If not for the PGMOL, I think Arsenal FC would have won at least one Premier title in the last two seasons. It was the forgetting to draw an offside line two seasons ago to allowing an out of play ball goal to stand at Newcastle last seasons. This is the third season on, the PGMOL is continuing to ply their trade on the Arsenal. The Arsenal fell short over the last two seaaons against Manchester City has a lot to do with the PGMOL.
