I was exhausted when I did this and I think my hate for bad spawns came across in a negative connotation towards OpTic and that's not how I meant it to, I apologize for that, but I promise I call out bad spawns in every match on here, it just makes me angry 🤣 The OpTic team played incredible and I don't mean to take away from their performance.
I personally feel that for sure that you aren’t hating, but I just always feel like when optic wins everyone wants to not give them their praise. Not talking about you, I just feel this is why people might have gotten the idea from. Nth but love and respect for you tho merk, your analysis are nice and accurate 🤍

Everyone know any opinions you have are exactly that, YOUR own opinions and honestly I always feel that they are unbiased (although I like to believe that once a brick in the Green Wall, always a brick in the Brick Wall). I mean I understand some of the spawns in the hard points were bad, but they lost both maps by over 100. You can’t blame a handful of bad spawns to loose the grand finals 4-0.

That spawn on Sub Base for the two Ultra players (P4, when they spawned all the way back near P3) actually makes sense. Even if the last man standing was on the hill, I think there's a good chance they still spawn out. Why?
1 player for Ultra left alive, 3 OpTic players pushing the front of the hill and thus all looking at that back spawn of P4. I know spawns in recent years often don't seem to make sense, but the most basic spawn logic in CoD is if an enemy player is looking at a spawn point, you're not supposed to spawn there, because it's a "free" kill. And when it's 1v3 in that area, with 3 players basically looking at that spawn area, the spawn logic says "unless this 1 player makes a hero play, this is not a safe spawn for his teammates".
The spawn logic is a weird mixture of squad spawns and a more traditional spawn system. So, I think it makes perfect sense, even though in the moment, it sucked for Ultra.
I don't claim to understand spawns in more recent CoD games, but going through this particular situation bit by bit and looking at the overall position of everyone, that's just how I read it.
I came here to make same comment for P2. Since Ultra has the hill, OpTic should spawn out unless Ultra are hard blocking new. i thought, but im just a fan.

i think the rio spawn is gassing it, you don’t get a 6 streak from a spawn😂you still have to get a kill, they also broke that hill, and got rebroke, it’s an unlucky spawn, but it did not cause them to get absolutely slammed😭
Am I crazy to think I thought Ultra would going to show up after beating faze but just get beat down in the finals 😂

Scrap is always talking shit, doesn't matter who they're playing, lol. I think Ultra lost in the finals because Scrap already got the win he really wanted, against Drazah and Faze. And Scrap is Ultra's best player, hands down. No disrespect to Insight, CleanX or Envoy, but without Scrap (or a player of similar talent) Ultra is not a top 4 team. They might not even be a top 8 team.
They seemed so flat in the listen ins. I get wanting composure but in a finals you really want some energy in your comms.

Didn’t even know merk had a channel. You should upload more, I as a fan of the two best casters of any Esport want to hear your opinion. Don’t even have to edit, just do some vod reviews of really good maps and give your opinions on good plays, strats, performances etc. I’ll tune in.

Ty for pointing out that Spawn Merc I noticed that maybe 2 weeks ago so what I started doing on rotation from P2-3 I’m usually bottom secret at about 15ish seconds I jump out of secret go top AC and get 4 because I know my teammates always spawn new and they start to spawn back P4 for some reason. Then both team somehow spawn mid cut.

For I everyone saying Joe is being negative towards optic about the spawn, please keep in mind this is an analysis. he’s analysing the game. the spawns are weird especially for people who understand the game at a high level. He’s not being negative he’s just giving a different outlook to the games instead of just “optic slammed them”

JP said they worked most on Highrise S&D for faze. Ultra probably noticed that in the scrims which is why it was vetoed. Ultra not banning sub base hardpoint was a dumb chall.
Ultra vetoed highrise cause they just don't play it. Across all modes they've only played highrise 8 total times all year and they're 2-6 (0-3 in search, 2-3 in Ctrl), they're just not good at the map and it's basically their auto veto
Optic is just a bad matchup for Toronto in the HPs. If Ultra banned Sub Base, they would've had to play either 6 Star, which Optic is also really good at (7-1 I think), or Vista which Toronto aren't that good at (1-2). Sub Base is Toronto's best map, so they just had to play it

the spawns on this game are terrible i agree, partially the reason i dont play the game anymore. but the spawns have been bad since day one and these are pro teams. the games been out for long enough that these teams should be able to adjust, read, and manipulate these spawns, and imo optic did that better than anyone else.

Tbf I'm sure optic lost their first 3 Rio hp but since then they've looked really good on it. Their hp map pool is really strong

just a guess, but possible reason teams were playing A defense on invasion more towards mid and blue is how most teams would lose defense was letting somebody slip through gas, so they’re trying to keep blue control and not let anyone slip through possibly
it’s probably due to timing of death / spawn when the hill was white, spawns get mixy when hill is white

I know the spawns are weird but in ranked I hard anchor during P3 the back of those spawns so we always spawn by P4😂
sometimes the chat is crazy man😂it’s crazy to me that they genuinely don’t understand the thought process behind things sometimes, like the chat couldn’t comprehend ultra sprinting onto the point and optic catching them😂if they slid 2 seconds later it probably works, and if nobody slides and they get there they probably get traded out, it’s just how it goes, you make a decision in the moment
That's interesting what you discussed with the spawns, I'm a noob but it seems like the spawns kind of come off as RNG...is that the case here?
Its like a weird fucked up mixture of traditional spawns + squad spawns. Like the first spawn MerK talked about in Sub Base. The first Optic guy spawning there makes sense, that's a traditional spawn cause Ultra wasn't blocking the back. The 2nd guy spawning next to him should never happen, that's one of those shitty squad spawns. CleanX backing up there should've 100% blocked that 2nd spawn.
I just think the overall HP spawns in this game are ass and both benefits everyone and hinders everyone. its just day to day.
I mean it's sad you keep defending Toronto on everything and taking optics flowers away optic is just the better overall team quit making excuses

toronto also said they felt like they just got out slayed the first time they lost sub base to optic and they were like 7-1 on it before playing optic, so they felt like it was their best hard point, turns out there’s a gap between best and 2nd best on sub base😂😂😭

tough for ppl playing optic with optic being undefeated on sub base and only one loss on 6 star, ultra probably should’ve went with 6 star but optic did just beat faze on that, ppl have to hope optic takes a step back with the new hills not having ant in the water, otherwise there’ll be a lot of tough choices between 6 star and sub base, i agree they should’ve challed em on 6 star, but it was kinda pick your poison, i think they just picked the more deadly poison clearly😭😭

I get that most teams would veto the Sub Base, but Toronto are also really good at Sub Base and were also undefeated on it until they played it twice against OpTic over the weekend, so I get the ego chall after watching OpTic take 6 Star against Faze the series prior. The one thing I don’t agree with is blaming spawn cheese for Toronto getting out-slayed the entire series. Insight and Envoy were horrendous. CleanX was ineffective without Envoy producing much of anything and Scrap was trying to single-handedly keep these games close. If their guns were working, they would’ve been able to work out of bad spawns like OpTic and Faze both have had to do to clutch up maps and Toronto have done too, and it’s not like they didn’t get gifted spawns in Rio, but then they got smoked off of time. Blaming spawns for their poor performance is just cope that Ultra either win big or get absolutely rolled in their finals, I.e. Rokkr coming back down 0-4 to win 5-4. NY 5-0, OpTic 4-0. Once they get put down hard, it’s like Scrap is the only one with the mental fortitude to not let it check him out.
Miles and Chance are great. Merk and Maven are great. After that, it takes a massive drop off in quality for casting.

Toronto only lost once on Sub base and it was to OpTic. That loss was close enough to give Toronto confidence to play it again and possibly crush OpTic’s confidence. Torontos real issue was not ever playing High rise to level there map pool. Leaving Invasion when you see that OpTic had been Uber clutching that’s more criminal.
I don’t even think Rio should’ve been in for Ultra, we almost lost that map to Carolina - Vegas &
We also were losing by 60-80 points against them and had to come back to win

Dude I’ve been a fan of Merk for over a decade. But this video is just poor taste, while I agree Optic got some lucky spawns let’s not act like Ultra was winning gunnies at all. Shotzzy was basically unkillable for all the grand final map counts. Both Envoy and Insight dropped a stinker. Give optic their flowers.
