People who demand adultery to be made punishable, must understand the reason behind any married person tending to go into extramarital affairs -
1. Unsatisfied sex life.
2. Poor relationship skills.
3. Prejudices against either of the partner.
4. Matrimonial conflict ( because in India families still often prefer arranged marriage over love marriage).
5. Some people regret being married to their partner due various reasons.
6. And several other valid reasons....
Taking all these issues into account, adultery or extramarital affairs being made punishable by law is not justified.
Consensual sex between 2 adults should never be a crime.
But having said that adultery being a ground for taking divorce is justified, and must prevail.

Aur rhi baat divorce ki to divorce bhi 2 types ka hota h - mutual consent divorce & contested divorce. Jis case ki aap ki aap baat kar rhe h woh h contested divorce - jo asaani se nhi milta h. Agar kisi ek partner ka bhi consent nhi h divorce lete time, to grounds on having divorce ka proof dikhana hota h court ke aage - cruelty, adultery, insanity etc. Jiske bina contested divorce court nhi grant karti h.
Issliye jab shaadi karni h to ussi intention se karni h ki ek happy relationship bani rhe. (This should be the 1st preference)
2nd - agar kisi waaje se shaadi ke baad koi dikkate aate bhi h, to extramarital affairs, adultery pe na paro wahi behetar h, agar parte bhi ho to ye koi punishable offence nhi hona chahiye, but must remain a ground for taking divorce.

Absolutely right decision. Adultery should NEVER be treated as a crime as it would have given power to police and our judiciary to exploit those who fall out of love in thier marriage. Good decision by the Govt.
