The second great Aston Villa team built by that wonderful manager Ron Saunders. UTV.

How strange is it to see the keepers picking the ball up from the back pass! UTV

Nice vintage upload. I might be looking at that through Spurs spectacles, but I thought we were unlucky there and definitely didn't deserve to go down 4-0. Clive Thomas, the Clown Prince of Wales, fussy as always!

A real shame Rimmer missed most of the European Cup final the season before. But his injury heralded the emergence of Nigel Spink who really should have been the most worthy successor to Clemence and Shilton as England no.1. No other club has produced two such great England keepers.
Real shame too Morley wasn’t selected for the 82 World Cup. Surely he was one of the most gifted players never to have shined for England. He went to Hong Kong a few years later and played for Seiko, the most successful team there in the 70s and 80s. One of his teammates in Hong Kong was the late, great Gordon McQueen.
Villa as captain? Would have given the armband to Ray Clemence.

I was at this game aged 15. Got thrown out by the police at the back of the holte end having given Ricky villa a v- sign after he skied over the bar. Missed all the goals. Young and stupid

Petty police if you ask me. Nothing wrong with flicking the V's at the opposition 👍🏻😁

The plod were heavy handed at times the top of The Holte End. They came steaming into us once for no apparent reason whatsoever, truncheons & all ! However, they had it back this time, the helmets, had their helmets knocked all over the place ! :) Next game they formed a square around a now empty area. Where we usually stood. A completely stupid, pointless & childish action. Laughable. U T V
