hi, there.
oh, i've been looking for a copy of the broken sword for several months now but without success. i'm not a huge sword and sorcery fan (except when I am, of course) but i believe the outlaw bookseller (ob) recommended it a while back so i put it on my radar. i should probably just order a copy but i'm letting fate take care of things. when i see at a used bookstore it i will pick it up, hopefully sooner rather than later. the ob loved c.l. moore so i'd be curious to see what you think of her work. i've read two of those bob shaw books. also looking forward to hearing what you think of them
those imaro books sound SO interesting.
that's awesome that your book club went well. i had no doubts! ;) the sars my destination was a great book to start with. i've never read starship troopers though i did see the movie a when it came out . does that count? ha,ha. just kidding. i picked up citizen of the galaxy the other day which is another heinlein juvenile. i have a friend who raves about it and it's suppose to be a retelling of the prince and the pauper but in space. i suppose there are only so many stories, right? i don't know much about bester but you reminded me of thomas m disch who wrote about and trashed other science fiction writers in a nonfiction book he wrote. apparently he was bitter about not being recognized by the sf community. he met a tragic end as well which is hearbreaking cause his work is simply amazing
there's absolutely nothing wrong with re-reading tolkien. he's amazing and there's a reason why nothing else in fantasy really compares. the depth of the world building is staggering. a friend and i were just talking about how the hobbit and the lotr are "literature" and even game of thrones as good as it is does not compare. of course not everyone will agree with that! (i thought the hobbit movies were awful because they were action movies and that's not what the book was about at all)
borges? wow. that's definitely literature. he's either modern or post-modern or maybe both!
love how you read short stories. it's a great way to meet new writers. and, of course, it's great how you can read something quick in one sitting
too much coffee was awesome!
emily dickinson is awesome! that was a great poem....as usual with dickinson
soldier of sidon is one i haven't read and you might recall that i'm a big gene wolfe fan. sigh. i really wish i didn't have a job and could just read, read, read. and speaking of jobs....it's time to skedaddle
next week promises to be crazy busy even though i'm on holiday for two weeks. here's hoping we can all find time for a little reading considering how busy it can get with xmas and new years
have a great week!
cheers
Just read Poul Anderson The Broken Sword last month, loved it hope you will to 👍 keep on keeping on 👍
The hype is real, keep on keeping on🖖🏽
Earlier this year I read a new release Starship Troopers inspired book called Providence by Max Barry and I absolutely loved it - I just don't have fun with the classics like you do 🌻
I will check out the dream book you mentioned when I need cheering up 🐘
Classic Sci fi is definitely not for everyone, but if giant killer bugs interest you check out the anime “Blue Gender”. It’s Futurama meets starship troopers and is awesome 🤯.
The dream department store is one of those books that is so simple and sweet you can’t hate on it 🐘
@PoorPersonsBookReviewer Ooh Blue Gender sounds cool I will check it out thank you!
🐘
🐘 thx for watching
Sword and Sorcery... have you heard of 'The Sunset Warrior' series by Eric Van Lustbader? I reviewed that 5 book series.
I saw your video and found book 1 in the lil free library not too long ago but haven’t gotten around to buying the rest of the series. Maybe I better just start book 1 first though 😅
