Welcome to the freeze drying community. We got ours 2 yrs ago and love it. Eggs do well if you add salt. Pork doesn't do well for long term, it goes rancid. John in Bibs does the best meals. Sugar does not do well. Any sugary food will explode so be prepared. We have dried onions, bell peppers, celery, oregano, basil, mint for seasonings. minced or powdered.
If nobody else said this, you are going to want to move your pump away from the freeze dryer. During the vacuum phase, the freeze dryer and pump get hot. It's best to allow lots of airflow for your pump. I have my pump on the shelf below my freeze dryer and even then, it still gets hot sometimes. You're going to love it though!
Hey Justin. Just a note of appreciation for your sharing your family with us all. With all honesty, yours is the first channel I go to for quality of family programming. You've assembled yourself quite "the crew" there. You are the quintessential father -- encouraging and protecting and enabling the success of your offspring while loving so amazingly on your wife. You ARE America -- and we appreciate that SO much! Christmas blessings and best prayers for zero pain! Please, never under-estimate the value of what you put out to RUclips. Watching the two of you so in love with each other is an American Treasure. The core of American Society -- with each and every one of your children a totally unique jewel in your crown. It's so wholesome I could cry.
The greatest gift to us the viewers, is you sharing the growing-up of your kids with us. That's huge. Hey Jonah and Josiah, Lily and soon-to-be Gideon and Henry. Thank you for sharing, and please don't resent the video'ed life. You essentially have a million godparents out here who want to see you flourish and prosper. Well, some are probably not as "invested" as others. But you have a LOT of people out here covering you with prayers, wishing you the best, cheering your triumphs, helping you carry your burdens. And probably more than a few of us who would make sacrifice to see your future ventures succeed. Jonah is particular. You had a LOT of people covering you with prayer and wishing you all the best with your accident. And then seeing Josiah rise to the challenge in a way that made us proud to be a part of the journey. Yea, both "roles" that fate selected for you were tough in their own way. But you triumphed and we're proud to have been along for the ride. Yea, "online community" is a totally new and perhaps even quirky thing. But please recognize the great asset you have in a LOT of "rando-strangers" being invested in seeing you do well in Life. BTW SO AMAZING you have the comments unblocked these days. Trolls enter her at your own peril!
I’ve had a freeze dryer for about 3 years now. Love it for “fast food” dinners. Chili, stews, soups, spaghetti, seared chicken, fruit, fruit powders, stir fry veggie mixes, raw eggs for baking, and sauces. All great for quick rehydration and 10 minute dinners, without any preservatives! Just avoid high fat foods, and sugars, like honey. Sugars bubble and cover your freeze dryer, and high fats foods can cause problems with fully extracting all the water. The fat can encapsulate parts with water still in it. Also fats go rancid after about a year, lowering your shelf life considerably. Also great for most garden produce.
Owning my own jewelry store here in New York has always been a dream, and now that I've expanded to three stores, earning $28K weekly has not only transformed my business operations but also enabled me to give back to my community and support the church in ways I never thought possible.
It is simply the digital market. That's been the secret to this wealth transfer. A lot of folks in the US amd abroad are getting so much from it, God has been good to my household Thank you Jesus.
Hey Jonah. Thanks for bringing the rest of us along on your journey. 17 y.o. you is . . . interesting. But many of us have been here since you were 6 and enjoy watching you discover the man you're becoming. Especially after your accident and amazing recovery. You be who it is you need to be. You're reminding me of what I was like at 17. I think you're doing a fair better job that I did! 🤣🤣 I was a miserable moodly SOB!. All we ask is that you listen to your Papa and your Mom, and perhaps consider what those of us along for the ride might care to offer. But for now, I happen to think you're smashing it! We appreciate it when you're open and having fun. It's gotta be a weight however, having so many of us living vicariously through you. (Ask your folks if you're not sure what that means). But what it means, is gratitude.
Hey Lily. I didn't have any natural sisters but if I had one I think I would want them to be like you. Your creativity, your amazing contributions in the kitchen, your service to your family, your rugged individualism, your passion for your horses is wonderful. I don't have a lot of experience with sisters, but I think you are in the top-10!
Hey Gideon. I think it's amazing to watch Mr. Brown grow up and come of age. It's amazing to watch you help your Papa, to love on your Mama, and to treat Henry like's he's the Internet's Most Famousest Baby, to appreciate your sister, to have fun with your brothers and their friends! I love watching you help out and climb around all over everything! You're an absolutely perfect addition to the mix -- But I miss the long crazy hair!
I have enjoyed watching your channel since I found it during the hurricane. I have been binge watching your old videos, and I just love it!! Your family is amazing!! I haven’t watched a video that I didn’t like!! So happy for yall!! So happy that yall get to be in the remodeled house before Christmas!! Happy Day and Merry Christmas!🎄 ❤️🙏🏻
wow, Amazing I think Jonah was six. I started watching you when you had 20 videos lol. I watched the one on my gardening feed, liked it, and saw you only had 20 so I watched them all and I have been watching ever since.
I love watching you show! I watch it everyday! I've learned so much. Hope you and the family have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Great job! 😊❤🙏🙏
Hey Josiah. You are noticed, understood and appreciated. As a 2nd born son, I identify so strongly with you. You shone (shined??) during Jonah's mishap, and it was noticed. I was "along for the ride" when you and Jonah struggled. I hope you keep an online presence, as I feel like a godparent; invested in your outcomes. Merry Christmas to you boy, and know that you've had a positive impact in the World. That's quite an accomplishment for a lad your age! Enjoy it and feel the blessings of it. (It's amazing watching you use the heavy machines and seeing your dad crow about it!). My Christmas gift to you, is that you enjoy the ride. Thanks for letting the folks poke the camera in your face!
The first born is always the Guinea pig for parents because there is no other choice. Parenting is on the job learning. No one can fully prepare you for the impact. And the joy. Grandparenting on the other hand is smooth sailing. It’s the reward for all the stress of parenting. Grandparenting is all pleasure and memory making and no stress. Be a positive force for enriching your grandchildren’s lives and a respite for their parents.
We have a freeze dryer, and we love it. If you want to freeze liver, I would suggest freezing it first to take a lot of work off of the unit. Of all the wonderful things you can do with a freeze dryer and introduce it to your viewers, liver has to be the strangest choice ever. But hey, you once ate raw meat in a butchering day video and tried to convince others to do the same. Come harvest time, that freeze dryer will be working overtime snd pay for itself the first year. But whenever you can, freeze the item first (your freezer is already on anyway) and that cuts down the time needed for the FD to do the job.
Spinach is my favorite green vegetable. I use it in place of lettuce and eat it just about every day. I've been doing this for years, and I am still alive and well so I don't think it is poison. LOL Justin, good for you for putting your wife first but I do believe that your children know how much you sacrifice for them, too.
I have been freeze drying for over 3 years, I love it. My favorite fruit is pineapple and apples, peaches and pears are OK but not my favorite. I have 8 - 27 gallon totes full of all kinds of freeze dried food. Potatoes, carrots, peas, zucchini, onions, garlic, cheese, milk, lots of raw eggs, green pepper, jalapeno, cabbage, cucumbers, cherries, tomatoes, celery, cooked black beans, cooked ground beef, banana, rhubarb, mushrooms, asparagus, and I LOVE all the herbs I put through my freeze dryer. I do more ingredients instead of meals. The sky is the limit.
We left our homestead to our kids. We just returned after 8 months of being underway on the America’s Great Loop. We will spend the week trimming trees and wintering while they go on vacation.
Mamma's first....bless you....Mamma's work quietly hard....glad you are feeling better Justin....love seeing, Johna is feeling included in choices..even if they are small choices...Lighten your load...he is eager to show he is ready.....He's smiling...today.....Feeling like your voice is appreciated is so important....it makes you feel like holding your head up, interacting instead of going quiet. You are building your future communication skills...as he is soon an adult....The flerd is a good idea for now...making winter chores in cold weather simpler...1 fence 1 water. Nice video.
Bekka. Yea. This whole enterprise starts and ends with Bekka. I heard a wonderful line once, from a young male singer. "Mom, without your devotion, surely your lad I dreamed of would fail". ruclips.net/video/MaaCivbKr_4/видео.html I don't know if I dare hope Rebekka has the time to listen to this. But I think it summarizes the continuing success of your family. Please know that there are those of us out here who recognize your pivotal, often background role in this venture. I'm so glad Justin remembers. You are noticed, and appreciated. Christmas blessings, and beyond.
You will love your freeze dryer...try slicing fresh tomatoes, freeze dry, powder...reconstitute with chicken broth, a pat of butter/cream, salt and pepper for a wonderful tomato soup. Tastes like summertime! So nutritious, too. Slice apples, roll in cinnamon, freeze dry for a treat for anyone.
Y'all have been my RUclips family Uncle Justin since 2012! Blessed for your content and experiences of expertise! I used the freeze dryer on a table but a utility cart is best (Harvest Right has one back-ordered) so the pump can be on the bottom with the bucket for drainage bucket! No extension cords! READ the whole book and The Homestead Family -Carolyn Thomas wrote a book to help! Let the machine sit 24 hrs after delivery and 1st time using is do bread and give the machine a clean-up from any factory.
I came across you and your beautiful family during hurricane helene and I’ve become hooked to watching y’all. I’m from the Uk and you have given me the growing bug. I’ve applied for an allotment plot as I live in a apartment, I got an email the other day to say we should have a plot in the new yr around spring time x
The noise level in your home seems pretty high. Probably you are used to it, but have you considered hanging some quilt art or any kind of wall hangings to soften all those hard surfaces? How about some sheep skins? Not a priority, I'm sure.
FYI. Freeze dried scrambled eggs are weird. They have a weird texture. But freeze dried powdered eggs are awesome. They rehydrate great and tastes like fresh.
Those freeze dryers are temperamental. I got mine from my parents and we both couldn't figure where there was a leak. It wouldn't get to the right vacuum.
Happy wife Happy life. You don’t want to be in the dog house with her. Jonah was too funny on having to be persistent to drive the side by side. The oldest are always the guinea pig. Justin spinach good. 😂
The blessings abound, Cousin Justin! These chiddlers are so mighty in their persistent growth. Cheers to you and Freddie for making plans to attract them to the homestead with fun and friends. This year has been such a mix of joy and sorrow. May you all feel a foundation of joy that continuously expands and grows throughout your community.
Have your Wife try coloidial silver nasal spray. I do 4 shots in each natural at bedtime. Have her tilt her head back in bed so it goes into her sinus cavities. Kills infection immediately.😊
After freeze drying for more than 2 years, I've found that proteins and dairy are real$ savers, and freeze dried ice cream is the biggest crowd pleaser. FB's The Freeze Drying Community offers a lot of experience to prevent mistakes, since some foods don't freeze dry well (like hot dogs or honey). A quick search there saves lots of headaches. I predict that you'll love your machine, especially during harvest season. Best Wishes & Merry Christmas!
you guys crack me up. please go to their website to see how to run a load lol. you have to cool the unit down for 15 minutes before placing the trays. Glad to see you found the outlet on the back. you'll want to join some freeze drying groups to learn from those who have already mastered things like how to do yogurt bites. you'll want to read the different items you want to FD so you're not wasting so much product. I would also consider getting Caroline's new FD book from homesteading family. The units are loud yes. our batches run 24-60 hours. It's good practice to run an additional 12 hours when you think the batch is done. enjoy it's a lot of fun! another fun tip is to get the food chopper from pampered chef. I love making apple fries sprinkled with cinnamon.
Merry Christmas Rhodes family! Your kids are getting up there! Beautiful family and I'm still so proud of all you've accomplished in your marriage! Glad you are feeling better Pap!
Thats an easier way of making butter than I was taught. My Mom & stepdad used to do it by hand. Things have sure changed since I was a kid. I wouldn't have minded making butter like that! It was delicious though. I miss the cream from the milk and the butter. Yummy 😋 They milked a couple cows for several years and we drank the milk, there's nothing like fresh milk and butter. Thanks for sharing!!
❤ freeze drying food is great. Its overpriced for now and you lose a bit more nutrients but so worth the amount of food you can save. Oh try putting that FREEZE DRYER ON A TABLE. That will Be helpful especially when drying liquids (like eggs&milk) . Don't try bringing filled trays of liquids to the dryer. Pour it right into a fd pan sticking a little bit out of the dryer tray slots. Pre-freeze dry items in trays overnight, that will save the freeze dryer motor.. Enjoy!
For such an expensive machine you should do a lot more research in set up and utilizations. It is not just plug it in and hit start. I watched so many videos and read the manual front and back before doing anything.
I have been watching since the beginning. I am so old school, I received an email from an angry Justin who threw a bunch of us off his email list for his newsletter before the RUclips channel ever existed, what was that 15ish years ago? (My feelings were so hurt.) I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos over the years, I am just not much of a commenter. By the way does Rebecca still have her channel? I am grateful for your newsletters and RUclips channel. Thank you for sharing your journey with us over the years. It has helped keep me going. I was so broke back in the newsletter days I had $75 a month to feed my family. I prayed that God watched over your family and provide opportunities for your healing and success, many times over the past several years. It has brought so much joy to my heart over the years watching you and the family grow and succeed. Here is to many more years to come! Much love and many hugs!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Fun fussball battle. 😅 Butter accomplished. Freezedryer on the way to usefulness. Flerd ongoing. Feed gated safe. Learning to trade chores, priceless. Shooting practice, necessary. Potty training working!!! 💪 Inflammation easing down. Definitely a happy day!
Our kid still lives at home, age 20. I told her, milk this while you can and save all your money. The challenge however is that she barely does any chores. Finally it's getting on our nerves. Going to have to crack down.
The freeze dryer takes a bit to turn on once you hit the switch. I’ve had mine since August and I’m still learning. Things I’ve learned: you have to take the trays out and allow it to cool for 15 minutes, then you put your trays in with the food. It goes faster if the items are already frozen. Make sure you didn’t put too much oil in the pump or it will spray out 😱🙈. Figure out what open/closed valve position is and be sure you have a glass jar under the hose for when you defrost your freeze dryer or you’ll have a lake 😂😂😂😂 I watched many many many RUclips videos and it’s so much fun now that I know how to use it! Happy freeze drying and Happy day! ❤❤❤❤
Heads up! For near expert advice on freeze drying - cog Hill Farm. Brooke and Jason have experimented with many different food items. Cog Hill Farm is in Alabama. Not so far. Nearer electronically. 🩷🎄🌟

Love ya’ll!! But each one of the Rhodes’ family need to remind Henry to use his manners. He’s constantly screaming or interrupting.

Congratulations!! The scriptures clearly states there's going a transference of the riches of the heathen to the righteous.God keep blessing you.
But how do you make so much by weekly? mind sharing? How does it work?
It is simply the digital market. That's been the secret to this wealth transfer. A lot of folks in the US amd abroad are getting so much from it, God has been good to my household Thank you Jesus.
Big thanks to Mrs Elara Marie Wells.
Her top notch guidance and expertise on digital market changed the game for me.

I've learned a new word today: flerd (herd + flock).
wow, Amazing I think Jonah was six.
Great job! 😊❤🙏🙏
Curtains and a few rugs will definitely help

Remember all "Mr. Brown, where are your shoes?" So much fun all the years!!❤❤❤❤❤
How good is Mr Brown about his shoes now ? Does he still rather not wear them preferring bare footed?

Freezed dried egg powder makes great scrambled eggs

Slice apples, roll in cinnamon, freeze dry for a treat for anyone.
to have seen where you and your family started and where you are now, good job dad
You have to name your freeze dryer and put it on the screen. My freeze dryer is named Lady Cassandra.

ThankQ

"I'm gonna leave a link to that in the description"..........
I only eat spinach because I watched Popeye too much as a kid.
I was just going to say, Their money just went 25 times faster.
😊❤😊
Whats wrong with spinach? He's just joking?
Happy wife Happy life. You don’t want to be in the dog house with her. Jonah was too funny on having to be persistent to drive the side by side. The oldest are always the guinea pig. Justin spinach good. 😂

Some throw rugs and curtains will help reduce the noise. May wall decoration will help too.
Are you guys Christians Do you do church.
Get Randall to bake you a rough cut table for your free dryer but big enough for whatever else you wanna put on it

Love the new table for the Food Driver. Very creative. Looks like you need a light over the
Foos Ball table. Lighting is cheering.

KALE powder!!!

Sometimes it's impossible to do it all. There are hard times now. Not that we don't want to do but pick and choose. Alls fine
Blessings to a Happy Family . May your holidays be filled with love and contentment on the homestead. See you all in 2025 🎄❤️🇨🇦
Fun fussball battle. 😅
Butter accomplished. Freezedryer on the way to usefulness. Flerd ongoing. Feed gated safe. Learning to trade chores, priceless. Shooting practice, necessary. Potty training working!!! 💪 Inflammation easing down.

Sheet pan eggs in the oven with your sheet pan bacon
My kids both still live at Home my daughter is 30my son is 32 I love it. I do small back yard gardens. There is no way kids can afford to live on own
Our kid still lives at home, age 20. I told her, milk this while you can and save all your money. The challenge however is that she barely does any chores. Finally it's getting on our nerves. Going to have to crack down.
💝🥬💘🥕💖
Free Agency is great -- until your kids start using it!

What does it matter?
I think Kale has a more neutral taste compared to Spinach in smoothies. 🥬
