Your character does something I was SUPPOSED to not long after my OWN mother's passing; original plan actually entailed traveling to Cape Breton and our old family beach plot (never saw it STILL) up there with someone dear to me but, it fell through (MORE years ago than I care to ADMIT!) - hoping to make the backdrop a very BEAUTIFUL place in the Berkshires nearby, INSTEAD - possibly a week from Friday (you & your BF should check them out, if you've not previously - don't remember now if you ever did any shows around Hampshire County; Northampton - oh, WAIT; just found out you're leading off for Shawn at the Academy Of Music before long.....)
.....the MacLeods are in my family through Nova Scotia (Cape Breton-Glace Bay) and North Uist, KT - guessing those WERE the Hebrides on view (?) Primary maternal roots, though: MacDonald, Clan Ranald - I've done a FAIR amount of genealogical work (mother's PATERNAL line, revealed some HUGE surprises 6-7 years ago; also, if you've ever watched 'SOAP' - a truly-HILARIOUS show, BTW - Diana Canova & her mother Judy are distant cousins - by marriage.....)
