Commentators are fucking biased, That's ridiculous sometimes. When Tom delivers three solid elbows, they're like "hum, okay" but when Brendan throws a jab, they go "what a great work fom Brendan !" -_-'
yea seriously. I saw that when Brendan threw a back spinning kick that was blocked and they lost their shits. But when Tom landed a flying knee they were like, "ok but Brendan though"
Close fight. I gave rounds 1 and 3 to Brendan. Brendan easily won Rd 1 and Tom won Rd 2. Round 3 was close and could've gone either way but i still think Brendan won. Crazy how the UFC haven't signed him yet.
wish this fight was five rounds. excellent stuff from both guys here.

+Danny Abad Yeah, just did the same. Live I felt the third round could have gone either way, but watching it on mute now, Loughnane was mostly hitting air or glancing off Tom's guard. Tom clearly landed most significant strike with the flying knee in a round where they mostly just exchanged jabs and leg kicks.

You guys have selective memory, Tom landed the more significant strikes while Brendan landed strikes that were blocked. What fight were YOU watching? Tom won rounds 2 and 3, 2 being the closest but he did get that take down and ground and pound in the beginning. Oh and a cut doesn't count for points, idiot, it's clean landing techniques and cumulative damage.

I would've liked to see brendan win but I don't think he made a big enough statement even though it was a great performance. had he dropped tom another time or two I'd say he had it clinched but in a close match, most judges will give an edge to the champion. if you want to take someone's belt you need to do it definitively. a rematch at some point could be interesting
This is the sanest comment here--of course, it's from a woman. They tend to make the best sports analysts as ESPN has shown. The split decision and the close scores indicate that this fight was pretty even, maybe even a slight edge to the challenger, but, as they always say, you have to BEAT the champ, not win on points. Performing better than expected is not the same as beating the champ.

Tale of the tape says one is 5'9" and the other 5'10", but when standing ftf its more like a 4in. or more difference
What a joke. DuQuesnoy was beaten all three rounds.
I thought Loughnane fought a heck of a fight, but the Frenchman did the most damage, and won every time it went to the mat, where the Irishman had no offense and was never on top. With the difference in length of their bodies (Loughnane has a really long body), he should've done more to push DuQuesnoy down, but he let the shorter man stay eyeball to eyeball with him the whole time.
DuQuesnoy's tactics evolved more in response to what Loughnane was doing than conversely, but I never felt DuQuesnoy was ever in any trouble, except maybe in the 1st round, and Loughnane didn't press his advantage and let DuQuesnoy back in it. It looked like Loughnane was more afraid of what DuQuesnoy might do to him, even the one time he seemed to have the edge.
I was rooting for Loughnane the whole time, but with every minute that passed, it just seemed like he was flirting with disaster, and it was just a matter of time before he caught one that would end it.
For old-timers who follow boxing, it's like some of those Sugar Ray Leonard fights, only the more punishing fighter won, rather than the one who made more contact. Leonard stole rounds and fights with relatively ineffective flurries that look good on Olympic score cards, but to me just looked pretty pitty-pat, and not at all damaging, in at least some of his fights. Not all. But some.
One thing I like about this MMA scoring is they're biased towards the more powerful strikes than just counting the number of strikes that connect.
