- www.autobytel.c... The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 has been completely redesigned and marks the 6th generation of the SL-Class. The SL550 is a roadster which is in essence a two seat convertible. The roof is 13 lbs. lighter than the previous model thanks to the use of lightweight magnesium materials. The 2013 Mercedes SL550 has an MSRP price of $103,650.
The SL550 is powered by a twin turbo 4.6 liter V-8 engine that produces 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. The 7-speed automatic transmission features wheel mounted paddle shifters as well as 3 distinct driving modes: ECO, Sport, and Manual. Combined with the start-stop system the 2013 Mercedes SL550 has a fuel economy rating of 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway which is better than the previous model.
The new 2013 Mercedes SL-Class features an all aluminum body that reduces the weight by over 300 lbs. compared to the outbound model. This weight reduction alone provides a huge boost in performance. In fact with the twin-turbo V-8 engine the SL550 can rocket from 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds. That figure is pure super car territory. The exterior still holds the shape that made the SL-Class famous over 60 years ago but with modern lines. The Xenon headlights feature LED running lights which are a must for any self-respecting luxury car. The 19-inch alloy AMG wheels give the 2013 Mercedes SL550 a very aggressive look.
The suspension features a ton of great technology that offers the most luxurious yet sporty ride. The active dampening shocks at each wheel adjust the dampening rate every 10 milliseconds. The result is a smooth ride with razor sharp handling. The Active Body Control System is tasked with providing a balanced ride. The body roll is limited when cornering and the SL550's ride height is reduced as speeds increase.
The 2013 Mercedes SL-Class is a convertible first and foremost. The SL550 features a retractable hardtop that can open or close in less than 15 seconds. MAGIC SKY CONTROL is a trick feature that with the press of a button turns the roof from clear to opaque or vice versa. Integrated into the headrests are vents that can provide a cool blast of air on a hot sunny day. The AIRSCARF system does the opposite. Beneath each head rest vents deliver a blast of warm air so you can keep the top down even in the fall and winter.
The 2013 Mercedes SL550 is one of the best convertible roadsters on the market today. With a powerful yet efficient 400+ horsepower engine and a wonderfully automatic retractable hardtop; the Mercedes has tons of wonderful attributes.

And What American Car company is even in the same category as a Mercedes? They are over-engineered, beautiful and feel very solid (unlike american cars).
I bought my 2007 sl550 new and I have NO REGRETS! Added Asanti wheels, Pioneer amp & JL 10 inch subwoofer and life has been GLORIOUS! It does everything well and the design is timeless. Great review of a fantastic car.

Lambo is known for making crappy handling cars with big engines and over the top styling, it's only after VW bought the company they started making good handling super cars, while Toyota has a long motor racing history. LFA is made with one of kind technology only used by Toyota, and they can buy Benz a few times over, who's the wannabe now? u r poor so stop talking
SLS is one ugly piece of shit, with cheap ass martial and ghetto looking interior much like the cheap SLK, and this freak show SL. LFA Nurburgring edition already has the fastest production car ring time record, now they are building LFA AD-A which will simply shatter everything ever made. it just shows how much money Toyota has and they can do whatever they want and product the best car yet.
A GT CAR IS A COUPE OR HIGH PERFORMANCE VERSION OF A SEDAN AND SEATS 2-4 PEOPLE!! hence that is why bentley continental is a GT!! CAbriolet will always be GT because it is an open-top version of a COUPE!! and it's 2+2!! A ROADSTER is a strict 2 SEATER!! an M3 IS a GT!! Go ask you BMW dealer yourself and they will tell you!! it is a couoe version of a sedan!! GO LOOK AT A DICTIONARY IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT!!
clearly you have no idea what 6 series and SL550 each has. hard top cab is only better as the stability, noise reduction and security; however, there are very good reasons why many high end cars chose not to use hard top, not because one is better than the other. SC is not stupid, it is more luxury and better made than the R230. clearly u never owned a SC, it is too much of car for SLK to even try to compete. like I said LC LF will be competing with shitty SL
the car sucks is my problem. it doesn't have everything a BMW or Lexus has. who cares about the hard top, haha. and who cares about the 300, it's about the car i'm looking at, and it is not an amazing result especially at the price Benz is charging. again it IS a GT not a sports car, learn more on cars before shitting again. 6 series can lap a SL day and night u fool lol, performance is not about how many power you have, it's about how the power is delivered and how good a chassis is, BMW > Benz
what is your problem with the SL?? it has everything a BMW or a Lexus has and more. The hard top convertible is also a Merc benchmark which took a while before BMW or any other luxury car brand had it. The SL is an incredible car with a real SPORTS CAR lineage dating back to the 300 SL so don't you dare say it's never been a sports car. BMW 's 6 series can't even compare to the perfromance of the SL. Look at the reviews and see the big difference of the performance between SL550 and the 650
I didn't say the foot unlock was "shit" I said "nothing cool", u need to read more carefully; LED running lights? haha, what is it 2010 already? who cares about LED running lights nowadays on a $100,000 plus car? Lexus already had it yrs ago on LS600hL, R8 had it for a few yrs, M6, 6 series, new X6, X5 series all offer this, so why a car in this price range doesn't even offer it?

u know a ttrsis also an excellent car and i respect that car very much, but the audi is so much lighter, and merc is heay with more power, audi is light with less power, they balance eachoter out i suppose, and i guess ur also paying for the s class lux too.
LFA a bargain?? people would rather buy the MP4 or the Aventador at least the MP4 is cheaper and better!! The Aventador almost has the same price but at least it's made by a car company that KNOWS super cars unlike a wannabe car company from japan who only knows tuner cars

The Mercedes SL is the very first car to use smart glass technology. So much for "has been used for many years". You call that interior "shit"? Really? Yeah sure. And just because something was already used before on another car like the foot trunk unlock doesn't mean it's shit. And finally, if you didn't notice, but this car does have LED running lights. And only very few cars offer full-LED lights, and that only as an option. So Xenon with LED runnings lights are just fine.

A very nice 2 seat GT convertible. This is a niche car for the high-end touring set that seeks a bit of performance while being coddled in luxury and technology. It does that well. It will look a bit better with with the AMG upgrade. That upgrade costs a lot of dough, though. I have seen a new model SL550 in person and it seems to be pleasing to the eye. A good looker, for sure.

OK /But how many bags of cement does it hold in the boot and can you get matching waterproof seat covers to match.
I believe it is because the 4.6 liter engine plus the 2 turbos would give you the power output of a 5.5 liter.

I saw the reviews. and all i know is 650xi is a faster car on a racing course than SL550. if BMW simply wanted more horsepower, they could've put a bigger engine, which now they updated the 2013 model, they increased the HP to 445, it's even faster on a race track than SL550
i do enjoy my LS600, LX570, S550, but also DB9, and M6, but i know Lexus is where real luxury is at, fits and finish way better than the Aston. I don't own Maybach cuz it's ugly, but I certainly sat in a few. I do enjoy my BMW, but people like me settle for whatever I think is good, cuz money is no concern, unlike you, can't even afford a Ford. Jaguar is downright shit, but I do like bentley mulsanne, I would buy it in a coupe set up.

also, a car costs this much in this class should have no apparent comprises, and not fitting the best screen with a good size is a huge comprise, and totally unacceptable in this class, if Lexus is doing 12.3 inch, BMW is doing 10.1 inch, and there is no reason for Benz to put a screen that size in their flagship... just sad
I'd rent one for a week if I was on vacation in an exotic place. That's about it.
