This whole bit is one big ribbing at the absolute insanity of the English language. It's a fantastic linguistics satire and an absolute masterpiece of comedic timing. A&C have a stellar delivery too.

Baseball's big in Japan, the premise wouldn't go over their heads, and I don't think anything's really lost in translation if you just literally translate the names
@@JediEternal Part of the issue is that the names are puns on top of the core joke. Who is Wu, Tomorrow is Tom Mara, etc. It's got multiple layers of epistemological trickery.

Some comedy really is timeless. Here we have a meme, animated by an independent artist on the internet, based on a stream by a virtual Japanese RUclipsr, playing a video game from the '90s, and redubbed with audio of a comedy duo from the '40s.

What really makes Who's On First so timeless is how little context you need to understand it. Basically, you just need to
1. Speak English
2. Know the positions on a baseball team
@@ViashinoWizard Knowing the names of the Baseball players the puns are based on makes it funnier, but is in no way required. And hell, it even works as a template. I remember the first time I heard it, it was by a Danish comedy trio, where it was recontextualized to be about the people playing the music during their act, and it worked just as well.

It's definitely a classic. One of the best, though I don't know if I would say it's THE best. I don't even know if I could pick a single "best" comedy act/skit honestly.
I still laugh at it after watching it 50 times!
Honestly this skit is quite literally timeless, with just the audio could easily see this being a sketch on something like SNL or on RUclips

1) Better edits.
2) Korone feels like a better fit for Costello, and the Mumbo Token for Abbott.
I love this sketch, it was funny the first time and it’s funny every time after that
It's a legendary sketch, it's never going to be not funny. :)
While the back and forth is classic I think it's the delivery that really makes legendary. Costello's gradual but clear exasperation as he asks what seems to be simple questions and Abbott's matter of fact but seemingly nonsensical answers continue to only pop more as the bit escalates. Plus it's forever left ambiguous if the former really is just being thick or the latter is actively trolling. It makes each element of the exchange it's own setup and punchline and comes at such a rapid pace you always find something new to giggle at every time you hear it. :)
I just realized, Whos On First has some serious Soup Store energy.
Edit: Things sharing energy is a two way street and it doesn’t matter which came out first.

Tytanized I know, I guess its more accurate to say Soup Store has Who’s On First energy but point stands humor as much of a meme it is to say its become random and abstract hasn’t changed much.

Also, as a side no te, while both versions of this are pretty good, I feel like your decision to have Costello's lines sync with Korone with the switching expressions was the better choice, as she's very excitable like Costello, while the Mumbo Token's static expression is a better fit for the more level-headed Abbott.
I think the different effects also make a big difference (e.g. 0:40 1:29 1:37 2:26 3:11 ). The lipsyncing is also really good in this version. The canned laughter is also fairly well executed as far as canned laughter goes. It only fills already existing voids in the conversation and doesn't really mess with the pacing.

Abbott and Costello's Who's on First sketch is a true timeless classic. No swearing, no dated jokes about the politics of the time, or anything controversial that wouldn't fly today. Just pure, light-hearted, fast-paced word-play.
I wish I could like this more, and I never like things. Hadn't heard Abbott and Costello before, and this is possibly the best way for me to have done so. Thank you.

@@Cajaquarius you're right, she is capable of understanding most of American English so far. Even native English speakers don't know ALL of English. There's quite a bit missing from every English speaker's vocabulary. Korone is better at English than many who only know English

The funny thing to me is how a modern meme animation was used in conjunction with a skit that's over 60 years old and it still works. You've given new life to old humor. Great work!
The world's greatest joke in history, and it's every single bit as funny as the very first time it was told. Truly, despite the infamy and legendary status of some of the greatest comedians to have graced an audience, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, Donald Trump, and Cedric the Entertainer, none, and I mean NONE come anywhere near as close to mastering the gift of immortality that was bestowed upon this joke.
The one joke that I think can make a case for being at least almost as great is the Argument Clinic skit from Monty Python's Flying Circus.

It is nothing short of amazing that I am sitting here at 3 in the morning laughing my ass off at a comedy bit from the 30s that has been repurposed and placed over an artistic rendition of a Japanese woman streaming herself playing Banjo Kazooie for the first time while depicting herself as a cartoon character using webcam tech that allows the person being recorded and displayed to be shown however they choose as it tracks their movements.
This is the cyberpunk future we could only dream of.

This is the best version of this meme I've seen because you actually worked hard and combined two neat things that contrast well.
This was amazing. And this skit is still hilarious after all these years
The key line that eventually holds the entire bit together is "I am not asking who's on second." I've seen some improvisations of who's on first that fall apart because you have to have that line or something almost identical to it to hold the whole thing together.
