    I always like these streams. It's a bit of "stream of consciousness" but it always touches on subjects I haven't encountered before which prompts research on my part.

    I would love a MFT lens like the one in the LX100ii. Preferably from OM System. That would be fantastic on any PEN camera.

    The LX100 II is my EDC. I found your comment about the D Lux 8 strips off features from the LX100 II yet it is considerably more expensive. Follows the phrase "less is more".

    I think I prefer the plastic sheet screen protectors rather than tempered glass. They are cheap enough to peel off and replace with new ones. They are usually supplied in packs of two anyhow.

    I had an LX100ii and sold it because I’m one of those people who find the EVF like an explosion in a paint factory at times (not necessarily when panning). I started using my original LX100 recently and found I was quite enjoying it and bought an LX100ii when one came up at a very attractive price. I use it mainly with the monochrome styles and it’s gradually replacing my Gx9 as my EDC (the LX100ii is much lighter than the Gx9 with the Panasonic-Leica 12-60mm). In the winter or inclement weather I will have to move to weather-sealed gear. Would love an LX100x with weather-sealing and a tilt screen.

      I'll count myself lucky to be relatively immune to the evf effect. I think all they need to do is make it weather resistant, update the coatings on the lens (I find flaring is a problem), and add pdaf. Now that they have a 25mp pdaf sensor, we could even get a resolution bump.

      @@RobTrek Some people use a hood on the lens. I'm not sure this is a good idea as I'd be concerned the extra weight might compromise the lens extension mechanism. And the lens extension mechanism does seem to be the weak point of this camera. The higher resolution sensor would be nice. It would probably result in a little over 20MP effective, though I can't say I'm unhappy with the current 17MP effective. Unfortunately, I fear we'll never see an update to the LX100ii. I saw one RUclipsr report that there was some agreement between Panasonic and Leica that there wouldn't be a Panasonic companion/competitor to the D-Lux 8. I truly hope that's not correct.

    I stayed up for hours on a cloudless 11th August to shoot the meteor shower but didn’t catch one. An amazing number of stars and three satellite tracks which went right across the frame were caught over a 20 minute Live Composite shot using my E-M1 MkII. I used the OM 20mm Pro lens. Only the brightest few dozen of the hundreds of stars were visible to the naked eye. While it was disappointing that the meteors didn’t come out to play, it was an enjoyable few hours and I tried writing my name in a light show using Live Composite before setting up the system for the stars.

    If you get your hands on a Pentax MZ-S you should also try the Pentax FA Limited range of lenses, Rob. My favorite one is the 43mm f/1.9 but I also loved making portraits with the 77mm f/1.8. The only one I never used is the 31mm f/1.8

    That Stylus1s need service. Mine has no issues focusing at long end. When introduced it rivaled many DSLR setups and was a premium beast. Quite expensive one.

      New to photography 3 years ago. I bought my first camera, the Pano fz300 based mostly on price, weather sealing, and Camera Decision review. I can't recall anything about the Stylus 1s. After this discussion, I went back to Camera Decision to compare the two. Again, the fz300 rated better and the current price has the Stylus much more expensive. Well, the FZ300 sits unused these days, a bit too bulky and replaced by OMDs. I think if I had the Stylus it would get some use simply because of its size.

    a great advantge is you can syncronize flash up to 1/4000 sec. and also change photo format (4:3, 1:1, etc.) cons: dust on the sensor .

    Just because technology is six years old, it does not mean that it is any less capable or lesser value than a more recently introduced model. They may well be ‘different’ but not necessarily better. For instance I upgraded from a G7 to a G9 and the G9 has a better shutter and many great controls, BUT, it lacks a pop-up flash for convenience and lacks some 4k photo and very importantly [for me] the auto Panorama feature. So, apart from the improved shutter [which the GX80 also has] and weather sealing , the newer camera has no essential stuff that increases its value to me. They are all great in their own way.

      This camera enticed me with the fast lens and compact size. So it eliminates swapping primes on my PenF. That said, no telephoto option forced me to leave it home when I went to the Balloon & Air Show. Brought the Penf with 14-42 and 75-300mm.

    I still have the 2 Pen Fs you have given me significant assistance with.
    Tbh, don't often use the kit lens, in large part as it is slow.
    Is there any point in purchasing the Lumix kit lens ?
    Invariably use the OMD, 35 1.7 for street and modest landscape work.

    I wonder whether my Leica D-Lux7 actually has a different colour profile to the the LX100II? I’m tempted, with my experience with my other cameras, specifically a GX80, to say not. A magenta tint, such as it is, is easily adjusted out of jpegs defaults using the colour grid in the white balance control. This can be done individually for every photo style. For specific situations, settings can be saved in a Custom memory.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Месяц назад

      I haven't found any say that the D-Lux 7 has different output. I'll have to double check, but I don't think I see the magenta shift in the jpgs. It's very subtle in the Raw files, but I felt something was off from the first images I took. I've almost got a color profile that works.

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 Месяц назад

      @@RobTrek In my case the raw file is never left unedited and in any case around 90% of my shooting is jpeg only to make use of the rather good colour science of these cameras. There’s no real colour science relevant to raw files because these are ‘unprocessed’.

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 Месяц назад

      I have an LX100 MkII [actually the Leica D-Lux7 version] and a GX80 [the European GX85] and they are very comparable. The GX has a pop-up flash and a flip screen and interchangeable lenses that allows easy sensor cleaning if necessary plus a few extra features missing from the LX/D-Lux. However the LX/D-Lux has a better brighter telescopic lens than available at a sensible price on interchangeable lens M4/3 cameras.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Месяц назад

      I think for a little more, the GX9 is a much better camera. But compared to the GX85, the lens of the LX100ii replaces multiple primes or the 12-35mm f/2.8 in a much smaller package. However, you might miss having a telephoto zoom like the 45-200mm kit or 35-100mm f/2.8.

      @@RobTrek I had the GX80 for four years, the GX9 has been my camera for maybe four years now? Both are well rounded cameras and I think better than the LX100 I or II. Just my opinion based on my need for a flash and tilt screen 🙂 I like the LX range though, I still have my 14 year old LX5 😁
