SB 554 by Sen. Hughes and HB 1437 by Rep. Clardy, Perez, Julie Johnson, Cain & Smithee make fair appraisal mandatory in Texas insurance policies.
Too often, insurance companies offer too little for the cost to repair a vehicle or the value of a total loss. Fair auto appraisal is a process that allows you and your insurance company to determine how much a repair will cost or the value of a total loss. Cindy Hellstern was bullied by her insurance company when they wanted to declare her repairable vehicle a total loss.
By hiring an independent, third-party appraiser, Cindy was able to repair and keep her car. SB 554 and HB 1437 make fair appraisal mandatory in Texas insurance policies.
