  • This waste oil burner is built using various pipe fittings and a Delavan siphon nozzle. I start it on propane then switch to only waste oil. You can attach a blower to the top tee to force air into the burner for a cleaner burn. The burner can be attached too either a water jacket for hot water heat or forced air heat.

    I think shutting down with propane would keep it cleaner inside. Notice the smoke, incomplete combustion, as you turned it off?
    I know you verbally gave a parts list. If you wrote them down in the detail section of the video, you could get a commission when we purchased the items thru Amazon.

    To get a hotel flame try putting two pieces of stainless inside the tube in a + a little longer tube could help .to change the orange flame to a hotter blue . I have even seen ware the final out put pipe they put holes in it to burn more fule . Nice video.

    I own a restaurant and this would be perfect for my hoop house. I was thinking of having the sun heat water in tank(s) so that would act as a heat sink throughout the night. But after watching this, I think I just need to have a smaller oil intake and then just keep enough oil it it so it runs out at about dawn. I'd be scared to have it to heat inside a living structure because of CO and potential of accident. But I love this, and thank you for posting it.

      you have the intake and exhaust feed to the outside of the property, and to heat the building you have heater pipes in the burner case that will circulate clean air in the building.

    I'd like to see this thing turned up to some decent power output with a blower on that T inlet. I think you may have to go to a longer end piece though because you may not get full combustion without dripping with the forced air. The longer end piece would get hot and allow secondary burning of any condensed oil.
    It's a nice, neat and easy to build setup though. It would be interesting to see how this went in a vertical orientation like to fire straight up and into a gas hot water heater.
    I think it may work even better.

      Oil Burner I'm in the process of adding a blower and was also wondering about the length of the burn tube. I get alot of unburned oil dripping out the end and need to improve the burn efficiency. I want to eventually attach it to either an old gas hot water heater or gas boiler system to use for hot water heat.

      @@marshal3157 The reason excess oil drips out is that you are letting the delavan fitting get oil from gravity feed. A delavan fitting is not designed to work this way. The oil is supposed to be drawn up by syphon action like a spray gun sucks up paint, and the air pressure pretty much regulates the flow.

    Hi,
    I've just watched your video and thought it was brilliant. Is there any chance that you can publish a parts list?
    I would love to make one of these myself.

    This is a nice easy design, but lacks oil hearing for evaporation that might result in a better burn. Will definitely appreciate your input on this.

    • @roberttill3787
      @roberttill3787 3 года назад

      It does not syphon oil it gravity feeds in this design, and there is the main problem, its hard to regulate the flow in this set up.

  • @roberttill3787
    @roberttill3787 3 года назад

    A rather unorthodox arrangement of the nozzle, but once stripped to the components i could see its a pretty good way of running it. The only criicism i have is running the fuel supply in this way is NOT syphon, but gravity fed which pretty much kills the concept of a delavan nozzle. The fuel is supposed to be drawn up to the burner tip by suction (syphon effect) ratrher than getting there by gravity. I feel much better burner control could be achieved if it was operated in the manner its been designed.

    Hello, I'm trying to get a waste oil burner going to blow down into my Hot Tub boiler. With a secodary air blower and a longer (1 yard or so) burn pipemaybe this could work. Do you think it would be possible for you to do some sort of schematic drawing (no need for fancy stuff) so I can go to my plumbing supplies place and get the stuff to do this? I would be very grateful, as it's not too clear from your film clip. love it btw!

    The air for combustion is provided by two means, the line from your compressor is one, th other is the stream entering the upper tee, flowing then trough the second tee, so there are two right angles in the trajectory of this stream wich reduces the amount of air and you will have oil without burn.

    • @roberttill3787
      @roberttill3787 3 года назад

      Not so. The burner air comes straight out of the delavan fitting, straight into the combustion tube, and the secondary air enters behind the delavan fitting also, so all airstreams are actually behind the point of combustion, which is just in front of the tip of the delavan fitting.

      5 to 10 psi If the pressure was to high it would blow the flame out.
