However, it makes perfect sense that Bluth's career was resumed by producing this faithful an adaptation of a Hans Christian Andersen's classic: both creators thrived by leading their audiences to explore dark, melancholic themes with the intention to recontextualize the meaning of a happy ending. Thumbelina is, originally, a story about how yearning for a match also means time, frustration, and suffering. And while the adaptation might had indulged in modernizing its tone to appeal to contemporary and younger audiences, it also dove into Andersen's themes, reaching great emotional achievements; such as this wedding scene.

Technically, Cornelius put a ring on her left ring finger, which is for your engagement and wedding ring. Cornelius was practically saying he was engaged to her.
